Castleton vs. Norwich

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

That's the difference between a good coach and great coach....

Agreed and the big problem is others on the team can't get away with even 1 dumb penalty before getting on the coach's bad side, the lack of discipline will hurt the Spartans down the home stretch.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

The one against USM was in the neutral zone. Splitting hairs, I know but just want to make sure everybody has the right facts.

Yes he may have crossed the blue line, I think he is a fine player, but the point is you have kids that were/are loyal to the program and yet the coach rewards a player that turned down the CSC program, went to a different school and then is rewarded with playing time 4 games after he enrolls at Castleton. You ask kids to commit to a program and then the coach shows little commitment to the palyers that have been there for 1,2 or 3 years in the case of a couple of cuts he made at the beginning of the year. This along with the on ice discipline problem show very little character.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

Apparently Castleton likes being associated with the Jersey Shore:

Although Norwich was the one doing the fist-pumping on Friday: :)

Prez I just might miss the NU senior day to catch Castleton/Middlebury Saturday in Middlebury to see who does the take off on the Jersey Shore. I thought I took in all the action at Spartan Arena but obviously I missed a few things. If Middlebury comes to play (big if) they could cause the Spartans some problems with there speed. If it happens in the NCAA's a Castleton/Plattsburgh match up be would something I wouldn't want to miss too.

I can see where this discussion is going to continue right up to the ECAC E tournament is a couble of weeks.

Castleton still has a lot of work to do to make the NCAA's. If the NCAA's started today, they wouldn't be in.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

It shouldn't matter whether the player is a first-liner or a bench warmer. I know plenty of coaches that will sit the player regardless based on the infraction.

I know for a fact that McShane will sit a first liner for cutting classes, too

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

I am surprised that the president of Castleton has not expressed his displeasure with the behavior, I respect him highly for the job he has done at Castleton and would think that is not the way he wants Castleton represented.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

Rink is not exactly a hop, jump and a skip from campus! If they players need to create a dynamic to bring in more fans and make it entertaining for the student body to attend then they should continue to build a tradition. I remember when Norwich fans used to spit chewing tobacco and throw apples and oranges at the opposing teams goalie back in the day. Why don't we just say it both teams mimic each other Norwich gets to bring in any kid for any amount typically and Castleton is slowly gravitating towards buying there program as well. Sometimes two negatives do equal a positive.

Crosby, you have no idea what your talking about. You are grossely exagerating Castletons so called "bad boy image". Its people like you, who don't go to all the Castleton games(expecially this year, since I have, the home games anyway) and seen the way they play. You base everything on their past history and don't look at what they have done this year to revamp themselves. They basically got rid of some bad apples in the off season, brought in some quality underclassman and are making waves, which I'm sure being a Norwich fan sucks for you cause now you actually have some competition in the ECAC East for once. God forbid you don't make it to NCAA tournament for once. I think its good for teams like Norwich and Middlebury to get some reality checks and have some smaller teams start knocking down those ivory towers them and their fans sit atop.

Not really inspired by Jersey Shore – rather by HBO: 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic:

taking a look at the weekend I see that one Castleton player racked up 20 minutes in penalties. Two high sticking, one Cross checking, one stashing, one cross checking and one misconduct. I can tell you that if a Norwich player performed like that he would sit out a game or two. I really like the fact that Castleton has become a force in the league and feel it is great for hockey, I just do not like the way they have gone about it. Time for the coach to take some action. And you wonder why the NESCAC broke up the interlock.
And how did Coach McShane handle a player who got a 5 minute major for grabbing the facemask of an opponent (ripping the helmet off the player’s head”) plus a misconduct?

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

I don’t think I will be matching Friday night, just because Norwich has so many weapons and you can’t focus on just one line when every line can hurt you if you don’t get work hard every shift. We have seen a lot of development and goals in the second half from players like Cody Ayers, Nick Lasorko and Colin Murray. They all have the majority of their goals (seven each) in the second half, so our top line doesn’t have to do it all. We are getting solid contributions across the board. and we will need that on Friday night

This is from USCHO columnist, find it funny that a coach says this and yet only 1 of the players has played in the last 4 games, 1 played 2 of 4 and the other 1 of 4.....if you are in a hunt for the big dance??????just sayin
