Castleton vs. Norwich

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

Back from the game, the Cadets really showed the Spartans that they have a ways to go yet. The speed of Norwich was just to much for the defense of Castleton to handle. Thomas went around their defense several times. Interesting that the coaches got into it a little after the game. The Spartans took a couple of runs at the Cadets late in the game that set coach off. I had to agree with him that there is no place in the game for behavior like that when the final score is a given. Great night for Norwich and their fans.
And where oh where is thatswhatshesaid now? Sending a tape of theose incidents to the league office so the offending Spartans can be disciplined? Fair weather, bandwagon jumping, poor excuse for a "fan".

Probably disappointed in gaining his strawberry skittles for naught.

I'm betting that there will be a notable conference championship between these two again, not so long from now - any fans looking to the NCAA will have their eyes glued to it.

The above is a Burlington Free Press story on the game at Rutland.

Of the things that caught my eye was the announced attendance of 1,505, if anything, looked like on the low side. I had no idea you could get that many fans into Spartan Arena. Crowd was like the Norwich/Middlebury game last Friday.

As mentioned by other posters Norwich seemed quicker to the puck, which allowed them to control play as evidence by there shot count advantage of 41-20. Also Mike McShane game plan to dump the puck in the corners and chase when no play was open rearlly cut down on the turnovers. It also seemed that Norwich didn't give an inch all night and contested everything; backchecking was also good. To some degree I thought the outstanding play of Castleton goalie Eric Cinotte keep the Spartans in the game with a chance of a comeback.

The ref's didn't do a good job at the end when Castleton players took a least 2 runs at Norwich players, one a boarding penalty that only resulted in a two minute penalty (should of been 5). And the hit behind the net by Castleton the ref didn't see which resulted in a lot penalties being called.

Best quote was by Coach McShane: some nights you have it and some nights you don't. The Cadets sure had it last night.

There were spots where the fans were four deep, right in front of the Student section. It was fun to yell "Go Wick" with all the CSC fans right there when Norwich got a goal.:D

I have to agree the ref's did not do a good job. Several calls were not made and they allowed the hitting to get out of hand.

So thatswhatshessaid were are you now? Open mouth and keep your foot in it.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

Ok I am an admitted Castleton fan, while I agree with the call on Harris(selfish penalty) the call behind the net that is said to have been missed was a good no call as Cinnoti made the save and the Norwich played spun and the toe of his stick went right into the chest of the goalie and Then the Castleton player shouldered the NU player to the ice...there was also the hit on the Castleton player at the end board after the off side whistle when NU was up 4-0 so there were calls that could have gone on either team at different points....that being said NU was the much better team with a great game plan, the quick goal took the air out of the building and the Castleton was beat to every puck and out battled in every scrum!

I think Castletons problems began last week at SMU, riding a 13 game win streak all of a sudden line 2 thru 4 have a new look, only 1st line stayed the same. seems to me at this time of the year 20 games in you want to "fine tune" and stick with what is working....so there are 2 factors that changed last week and that is the make up of the lines and the playing of a player that was recruited by Castleton that said no and went to Plattsburg, was not getting the playing time and boom 4 games after he enrolls in school he is in the linup. Just think the timing of these changes have hurt what was working.

I think we will know more about CSC after next weekend: Middlebury, Williams....They are facing adversity and how they respond will go along way in how their season ends...I personally wasn't that impressed: if you stop CSC top line then you have a decent chance of winning...Their top players can play with anybody but the depth going against team like Norwich seems to be lacking...Plus they started the wrong goalie last night...

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

agree with you 77!! Not sure it would have changed the outcome but think Cinotti the better tender. as for the supporting lines of Castleton they had been putting up some good numbers the past month but like I said now 3 lines of guys that had not been playing together

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

Sad display by Castleton. Surprised by starting tender choice by ATodd but then again no surprise when you figure that possibly the best tender on campus isn't even on the roster. Thought we were sluggish on D with the new guys except for Douglas. D hasn't been tested often this year because of the offense. That is the difference between this years team and last. But when the O isn't there we now find what we have on the blueline! No Barber and Gulley are huge holes. Alonzo is a great player but takes stupid penalties when the chips are down. He's been doing this for 2 years with no consequences from Todd...needs to change. Riding a winning streak and getting "pumped" over rankings don't get ya far. Let's hope to do well in playoffs or an at large bid. Go Green!

Castleton will need to do some work the rest of the season to have a shot at an at-large bid if they don't win the conference.

The Spartans' SOS is very weak.

That being said, Norwich pretty much needs to win the AQ too because they don't compare well at all with most teams right now.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

I agree, NU exposed CSC's weakness on D. With Barber out and 2 D that were cut at the begining of the year that are better than what was displayed last night, what we are left with are slow d that don't play the body very well ,which mean your forwards MUST backcheck with more aggresion and other than 21 and 48 there was very little backcheck from the forwards.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

I have three things to say about last nights game.

1. Norwich is the far superior team when they actually show up to play and they are actually pretty fun to watch live when they are playing well cause they can do things other teams definitely cannot.
2. Norwich have some classless players(if you were there at the game you know what they did) who took some borderline dives and don't know how to take a hit(maybe the only aspect Castleton won...maybe).
3. I didn't realize to be a Norwich fan you had to be a AARP member.

Congrats to Norwich, they played incredibly well and hopefully the Spartans will make it a rubber match in a few weeks in the ECAC East playoffs. To all you guys on this forum, screw you guys I'm going home...wait I am home...screw you guys I'm going to watch the St. Mikes CSC game.

I would't be too hard on Justin Alonzo. He may play with an edge but is just the type of player everyone wants. Should may a great set up for the ECAC E tournament where ever it is held.

You are really a poor excuse for a fan. Caselton desearves better.

You are right about one thing I am a member of AARP. But sort of a funny comment.

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

So here is a prediction for todays game....Todd will sit a couple of players that have been producing, bring Lindsey back (good thing) and still play the new guy over guys that have been here, not saying the new guys isn't a bad player but he has had 2 penalties in 3 games and the opposition is 2 for 2 on the pp.....

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

outside observer ,im a Oz fan....Norwich flat out dominated.....speed killed the Spartan D killabrew or as I said b4 drank to many brews was beaten like a rented mule many times, and the rest of the D looked like peewees, perhaps they have not had to play D due to a good O,speaking of which where was it last night, all I have read in the past few days was how good the 1st line was and how they should be all-americans, maybe if they play peewee teams ??? the 2nd goalie for the spatans looked much better...........also 1 non goal for each team, still cant figure out y they called off the Norwich 5th n0n goal??? reffing was ok....I would like to see them meet again, but dont doubt that Nu would win.........

Re: Castleton vs. Norwich

To thatswhatshe\said: You are correct when you say" Norwich can do some things other teams cannot do". The speed of the forwards and playmaking ability is unmatched. Norwich offense is better this year but when you graduate the sarting goalie and four defensemen it inhibits your ability to realize the offensive potential. Your call out of diving is overshadow by the intentional hitting from behind by the Castelton player. Those kind of hits should be prosecuted in the courts of law. Intent to injure. It crosses the line of collegiate competion and sportsmenship into thuggery. Casteltons improved program is a positive additon for the league and community. Just don't view their success in rose colored glasses. They play a very physical brand of hockey that borders on "Slapshot esque type of play" View the tape of the game, hitting someone from behind into the boards turns a hockey game into the California penal league. Try skating, passing and shooting, and I'm not talking about your mouth. Your posts mirror your teams style of play. See you in the penalty box if not in your moms timeout place.

Schwanman, how dare you make fun of my family and my mother, her timeout place is very sacred! Haha jk, i love your comments though, pretty much all true. I rather have a team play aggressive and take a few more penalties than a team that rather play peewee hockey. With aggression will come penalties, its the name of the game and every team has their fair share of the so-called "dirty hits" but when you play hard and fast that's what happens. Lets be honest, everyone loves to see a hockey fight, and without that slapshot-esque type of play, hockey wouldn't be as much fun. If you want to watch a nice bunch of boys run around passing and shooting, watch soccer. If you want to watch some men skate, pass, shoot and HIT, watch hockey. The only hockey plays I don't tolerate are sticks to the head intentionally, sucker punches, and of course iceballs, otherwise play at your own risk.

Consider my posts for entertainment purposes only. I don't claim to be an expert on Norwich, Castleton or D3 hockey. I play hockey, I watch hockey, I enjoy hockey. Currently I have added enjoying messing with uscho forum posters, because honestly, everyone gets riled up to easily. Don't take anything I say seriously. I am a moron and I make no serious comments or intelligent comments, I just hope to get a laugh, and if you don't think anything i say is funny(which apparently is everyone here excluding my friends who read the posts), just ignore me completly.
