Re: Castleton State Hockey 2012-2013
There are a ton of videos out there (particularly Minnesota Hockey) on teaching checking the right way. The "blow up" hit for the purpose of "intimidation" is no longer acceptable.
The purpose of a body check is to separate the man from the puck, not the man from his head.If the hit was hard into the boards, I have seen it called for boarding many times. When Selleck was at Oswego and take a run at someone near the boards, he would get called for boarding. Because I couldn't unerstand the penalties on clean hits I found out that
Boarding = A player shall not body check, cross-check, charge or trip an opponent from the front or side in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently into the boards.
Needless to say, I was a little suprised that you could get a penalty for hitting too hard???
