Canadian Olympic Team drinking champaign

Re: Canadian Olympic Team drinking champaign

Too much politically correct reactionary B.S. catering purely into the hands of an American media, prone to sensationalizing that which is not news. Very sad.

Very sad? Poor judgement by the winners, maybe.

Picture the nordic combined team slightly toasty - one fist curled around the neck of a bottle and another taking a hit off a stogie while lounging along the edge of the jump.

Or maybe a figure skater sprawled out on the ice of an empty rink with a bottle of brut.

Or - my favorite vision - the american track and field team in various stages of disrespectful poses in the infield.. Inhaling a victory puff with a fine swig of Corona.

I'm all for celebration, drinking AND a celebratory stogie. The choice of public location with photo documentationn was a dumb decision. Face it, move on.

Congrats to Team Canada you played a great game. Celabrating with your team is a memory you will have forever this American salutes you and enjoyed watching your high calibur play. You earned this moment with your team remember it for what you intended it to be. A joyful celabration of your amazing acomplishment.

I totally agree!

Ha! Talk about a lame overreaction! My goodness. Let's hope YOU can move on to a different hobby...get away from sports cuz you don't really have a clue about this one!

I read this and my first reaction was that you were making a reference to Miller.....Lite. I had to review. Well i'm to 40 posts, I guess I can quit and go find a Canadian adult beverage or a good wine. Maybe a Big Red.

Sorry...SHANNON Miller

Hopefully this will bring some closure to the story that didn't exist...

The only thing that I'd question from the article is this quote:
“We accomplished something huge,” said Hefford. “Huge for our country and something that maybe a lot of people doubted could happen here in Canada."
I don't know that there were a lot of people who doubted that Candada could win in Canada. But I agree with the overall point -- the Canadians don't deserve to have their victory tarnished in any way by a non-event.

Not exactly sure what she was getting at with that quote. I think there was so much expectation put on these atheletes to win on home turf that at times the pressure must have been excruciating, to the point where perhaps they may have even doubted themselves.

The quote that caught my eye from Hefford who said "Today would have been a great day to open the papers and see our team celebration on the front page and hear how proud Cnadians are of us."

It didn't happen and no one saw that coming. Too bad.

I think they will get some of that over the coming months -- everybody that they meet will deliver that message in person, even if the papers dropped the ball coming out of the gate.

I for one am just glad to see that most people are already in thier corner. They played great and showed true character in thier game. Can anyone blame them for wanting to be out there were the defining moment of thier hockey life took place. Again great job Team Canada enjoy your victory.

Leave it to the press to focus on one minor negative as opposed to the fact that for the first time ever, Canada has won a gold medal in hockey on home soil. The only other team to ever win the gold at home has been the good ole US of A, and they have done it twice.

I wish it was the USA that won, but regardless, these girls deserve to enjoy their hard fought victory. They do not need to have this silly press coverage over a non-issue take away from that accomplishment.

Personally, I think all news outlets around the world should have to dedicate one day a year, focusing on everything positive. We could call it World Positive News Day

Personally, I hope not. I wouldn't mind the USA team celebrating though:D

Who knows? It seems like this rematch is destiny however. The two best teams, over $200 Million in talent, NHL size ice in an NHL Arena and all the smackings of a Stanley Cup game 7.

Michal Handuz was asked shortly after the Canadians dispatched the Slovak's yesterday what his thoughts were on the Gold Medal matchup to which he replied " It's not the best team - It's who's going to win." I say he aced that one!

Good Luck to both teams and their fans tomorrow. Should be a dandy.

And to think that Bettman is considering not including the NHL'ers in SOCHI. That would be a crying shame.

Re: Canadian Olympic Team drinking champaign

Regarding the celebration aftermath, I wish the Canadian captain would not have been so apologetic toward those who may have been offended. I don't know of any hockey fans, Canadian or US who were in the least bit offended by the celebration. The governing bodies and bureaucracies of sports are just too full of self-righteous fuddy-duds.

I agree. Not sure an apology was warranted but given the fact that IOC came out with there ill timed release about the future of women's hockey on the same day as the Gold Medal game:rolleyes: ...the Canadians were probably forced to say something...no matter how hollow the apology was. Your right though...most hockey fans can see right through it...true hockey fans weren't offended.
