Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Maybe just an oversight, or a weird coincidence, but I didn't hear any complaints after the U22 game (a Canadian win) when the refs called 12 penalties total, vs. only 8 in this one.

Ummm. I'm counting 7 penalties (HC Site) and 6 (USA Site) total in the 22 game so don't be :rolleyes:ing me. Get the facts straight your counting penalty minutes. 5 American, 2 Canadian and CHG reports the game had good tempo, was gritty and the ref's put their whistles away. The American ref's should take a page from the 22 book...all I'm sayin.

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Due to the recent comments regarding the Canadian game, I now must report that there was plenty of stick work by the Americans during last nights U22 game. (Hux, you should know better than that) Mostly *** for tat, but the Americans were very aggressive, which in turn got the Canadians going harder. Many of them could have been penalties, but I didn't feel the need to mention it. If they call everything, or create a severely unbalanced penalty score sheet, it obviously wrecks the game. Whomever said that we try to slow the other team down by taking penalties to coerce the refereeing, is a novice at best.

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

U18s - Game 2

USA Wins in OT - 3-2

The USA built a 2-0 lead after the first period with goals by Haley Skarupa and Hannah Brandt (power play). But Canada came back with a power play goal in the second period by Laura Stacey, and a power play (and extra-attacker?) goal with 6 seconds left in regulation by Meghan Dufault.

In overtime, it was the USA's Karley Sylvester netting the power-play game-winner at the 3:17 mark, with assists to Amanda Boulier and Michelle Picard.

Canada and the USA were each 2-for-6 on the power play. The USA had 41 shots on goal to Canada's 24.

Shenae Lundberg played in net for the USA; Amanda Makela got the start for Canada.

I am not sure who is counting shots but Canada carried the play for a lot of this game.

Not really. There was a lot more up and down, back and forth, than last night, but the US still held the upper hand.

U22s Game 2

USAHockey.com is reporting that Canada wins 6-5 in a shootout.

We're still waiting for the box score to be finalized. Hilary Knight and MLam each had two goals for the Americans, while Jen Wakefield had two goals and an assist for the Canadians.

Just to be safe.... the last time I checked there were discrepancies between the US site and HC site. Examples 6 penalties vs. 7 in game 1 of the U18's and in game 2 USA site showing they went 3 for 6 on the PP? What gives? Who doesn't know how to keep a box score? Inquiring minds want to know!

My guess is that both organizations have interns who meet age qualifications for the U18 teams keeping track of the stat sheets. The currently available stat sheet of tonight's game is missing Canada's first period goal.

Believe me... it's painful for me to see too. I did some newspaper sports reporting, which I got into through my interest in box scores in the paper. As impatient as I am to have the score sheet posted, I'd like for it to be correct first.

And just as I post that latter statement, the box score gets updated. The correction is that Wakefield had a hat trick plus the assist.

Natalie Spooner had the lone goal in the shootout.

It was a penalty filled affair. The USA got whistled 10 times , though the Canadians only converted twice on the power play. On the flip side, the Americans tallied two power play goals on 6 Canadian penalties.

I mean if your not there and there is no A or V of the game the box score is everything. All the info you need is usually there. Kinda like reading a P & L.

Geez, for the love of Mike... you'd think they would know by now that there are actually fans interested in this series, on both sides of the border and I would encourage each organization to get it right!  Double sheesh!

I noticed the 6 stick infractions to 2. Hmmmm... Looks like they picked up where they left off last night. Must have been a heck of a game by the looks of it.:)

Every kudo that the officiating crew deserved for game 1 (except for the kicked-in 2nd Canada goal), did not apply in game 2. Last nights official was the show rather than letting the ladies dictate the tempo.

The most ludicrous call was a diving call on one US player with 6 mins to go in the 3rd and the US up 4-3. Canada tied it up on that bs....

Reffing should never interfere with the flow of the game unless it has gotten physically out of hand. Like I said in a previous post, the easiest solution to this dilemma is to allow a *** for tat system. This prevents refs from being the show, and allows the players to decide it. If they would allow a little more contact, the stick work would lessen, making their jobs much easier. You can't pull one out of your hat at crucial times in the game, but nothing peeves a ref off more than showing them up by trying to draw a penalty. Desperation, cowardice, something like the soccer mentality. Tough way to lose.;)

LOL, Like the men's game right? They just debated having the men go to a half shield instead of a full cage because of stick work and I'm pretty sure they allow a little contact in the men's game. The stick work generally comes from a player who is being out skated as way of slowing down a player!
Yes it stinks to lose a game like that, but it's like losing a game on a goal that goes in the net, the goal judge puts on the red light and then have the ref skate into the zone (LATE) and call off the goal. I guess we all have our crosses to bear.

I think you actually have it! This isn't men's hockey! Cry me a river! :D

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

I'm obviously always pulling for my country in these competitions, but it sounds like Natalie Spooner is doing well and that's great. Looking forward to seeing her and the rest of my Buckeyes this season. :)

That's the spirit, agent 86. You ARE smart, and your team will do well this year. Tough conference though, lots of close games.... Missed by, that much. :)
