Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Once a politician has a record in office they can't hide behind platitudes. He has a very fine line to walk if he's at all interested in a second term. Hell, even Congress will have to watch themselves for their own collective sake.

More than half the Congress could shoot a person in broad daylight and still get reelected.

Ok, that's hyperbole, but once you survive your first reelection, you stand a very good chance of lifetime employment.

See: Young, Don.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Do you know the context from which that line was taken? He was actually making the exact opposite argument using a ridiculous form of rhetoric to make his point during his radio show. Of course, that all doesn't play well in an opponent's attack ad.

Yeah, he'll have no problem getting re-elected regardless of what Trump does.

In his criticism of the court's ruling which legalized same-sex marriage, Lewis questions the federal government's role in defining marriage and also in outlawing slavery:

In fact, if you really want to be quite frank about it, how does somebody else owning a slave affect me? It doesn’t. If I don’t think it is right, I won’t own one, and people always say ‘well if you don’t want to marry somebody of the same sex, you don’t have to, but why tell somebody else they can’t. Uh, you know if you don’t want to own a slave, don’t. But don’t tell other people they can’t.

You're correct that rhetorically it is ridiculous, because the dude is so racist that he can't even comprehend that the slave in his ****ed up scenario is an actual human being with basic civil rights.

I'm aware. But I also know that the Independence Party's candidate got 28,000 votes for that seat - four times his margin of victory. He'll be a first time incumbent in the 2018 race, hardly in a strong position right until he can prove himself. I live in a very prosperous district, joe. It's also a district that has traditionally paid close attention to its candidates and doesn't often have blowout victories. I half think Rep. Kline retired because of bad prospective polling data.

More from that same blog post:
While Lewis called the goal of ending slavery "laudable" in his book, he also wrote that the Civil War Amendments have "regrettably grown to include the policy preferences of individual judges that have little to do with the plain language of a particular amendment."

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Many anti-Trump people ripped him for not having a plan/policies/etc (and that was justified).

Now that he's been elected, he'll magically pass anything he wants, cash in (so to speak) on ALL the left's fears? All of a sudden he has an agenda?

I'm just waiting for him to screw up and in that case I'd crucify Trump, I really am. He, to me, was the devil we didn't know. We knew what would happen if Hillary was elected.

I personally think he won't get anything done that will REALLY harm this country, and I really hope I'm right. I REALLY hope I'm right.

And I'll be right in front of the line criticizing him (and related staff) if they do something harmful.

The point is...let's see what ACTIONS happen, and stop judging on speculation.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Yeah sorry Clown...Lewis is a moron and his statement is ridiculous.

Yeah we should do that...because that is what the Righties around here were doing when Obama got elected. All we can do is speculate there is two months to the inauguration...

And just because he doesnt have a plan doesnt mean he wont do things and fast. The two are not mutually exclusive. Maybe he wont do anything and if so we are all better off but considering the campaign he ran, the lies he told and the people he is surrounding himself with I doubt it. He isnt exactly surprising us right now except that he has already backed off promises and he hasnt even been President Elect a week.

Personally, barring a war I dont see him getting re-elected unless the Dems put up someone lame and Clintony like Howard Dean.

I don't see him lasting 2 years (by his choice or not).

And I almost voted for Obama. I was really close. I still gave him a chance. Sadly, the extremists (on both sides, on both elections we have mentioned), didn't/haven't. I don't like that.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Trump is already shaping up to be a massive problem. Priebus and Bannon? Outside a microscopic stint in the Wisconsin state senate...these guys have absolutely no policy experience. Their resumes are of strict ideologue warriors that happened to back Trump early. And Trumps inflammatory tweets are back in force. What else do we know? He'll be heading up an owned senate and house. He's pledged to change as much as he can. And attacks on minorities are on the rise. For anyone old enough to remember 2000, we questioned whether W would be all that bad. Yep, you're being way to congenial with Clown who is way in the wrong. We're one week in and this is the worst news since 9/11 (including the crisis).

With all due respect, you're still trying to give yourself a pass, Brent. What we knew we would get from Hilllary was infinitely better than what we knew we would get from Trump. What we fear but do not know with Trump is whether his lack of preparedness, immaturity and impulsivity will lead to a foreign policy catastrophe.

We've had bad presidents before but Trump as Commander in Chief is ****ing scary

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Brent still trying to equate Hillary and Trump...

good stuff.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Palin has no business in government.

Are you saying someone might have recently been running a side business in government while in government?

I have to say it: At least Palin was a mayor and a governor; she has more government experience than her would-be boss.

George W. Bush. People are so naive and no ONE learns from history. We're all going to get exactly what we deserve.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

3) Hillary didn't talk enough about the issues, ...

Correct. Every ad I saw from Mrs. Clinton in the weeks up to the election was attacking Trump, no policy. Even in the debates things went more personal than policy.

She and her campaign got suckered by the schoolyard bully.

Where was the crucifixion when Obama decided to continue "the Bush wars"?

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

One thing we have learned the last thirty years: as long as they live in their Echo Chamber ...

Are we sure that echo chamber isn't NY, MA, and CA?
I heard this weekend that 1/3 of the Dem caucus in Congress is from those three states.

Are we sure that the echo chamber isn't defined by I-495 as it traverses Arlington and Alexandria and Bethesda and College Park?
Washington DC voted 96/4 for Mrs. Clinton.

Michael Moore tried to warn the Dems and was ignored.
