So the people who were stupid enough to vote for someone who is clearly the most unqualified person ever elected president in the nation's history, or racist enough to vote for someone who clearly appealed more directly to the racist portion of the electorate in decades, these are the people you are putting your faith in. Yeah. That's like me expecting the same people who have hired Bob Davie, Ty Willingham, Charlie Weis and Brian Kelly are clearly capable and likely to hire the next coach who will lead Notre Dame to their first national title since 1988.

I don't believe so. The man appeared entirely out of sorts during the campaign and we all know how that ended. His only real missteps during the campaign were when he spoke off the cuff or people leaked recordings of him from before he ran for office. A pick for any such position will not be impulsive. Even though he's limited in his choices due to his brash style, he has to see how toxic Palin would be for him.

Once a politician has a record in office they can't hide behind platitudes. He has a very fine line to walk if he's at all interested in a second term. Hell, even Congress will have to watch themselves for their own collective sake.

You sound like Rover, spouting the same tired cliches about the demographics of the electorate as reasons why Trump would not win, no matter what. So much so that anytime anyone even expressed the slightest hint of discomfort at the possible outcomes, he ridiculed and insulted us incessantly. Our politicians do not put principle or country at the head of the table. At all. The only thing is as bad as that attitude it, until now we have not had a president as potentially dangerous to the very survival of our country as we do now. The San Antonio Spurs coach speculated that we may already be decades into the decline and eventual fall of our society and we simply aren't bright enough to see it yet, like Rome. He's fuking right. We have been going down the tubes for a while now. I guess maybe electing a Trump as president might not be the worst thing. If we're going to go, may as well go quickly and give the next entity their turn.

I saw David McCullough on 60 minutes a few years back and he said that since the formation of our country people have been saying we're going to hell.
The thing that concerns me more than anything else, and it never gets talked about, is that the national debt has quadrupled since the turn of the century. Apparently Trump wants to lower taxes but I'm not sure how on earth that makes any sense. I'm sure all of us would love to pay less taxes but we can't continue to go further and further in debt. At some point there are going to have to be significant changes to both sides of the P&L, and I hoped this is something he would confront, but it sounds like at this point he isn't going to.

Lincoln appointed a cabinet that was a "Team of Rivals". If one appoints people of one view, you end up with a probable disaster (Grant, Harding). If you get opposing views in your advisors, you stand a good chance of making a good decision.
I'm not implying Trump is Lincoln, but if he wants a blueprint on how to pick a cabinet, he has one.

My district for the House seat was won by the Republican, but Clinton won for the presidential vote. Jason Lewis (the Rep-elect) can't follow Trump blindly should he wish to retain his job. It was a close race for him, so he doesn't have a lot of room to maneuver. How many other districts are like mine.
Also, unlike Rover, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. At this point we're all speculating on what may or may not come to pass. The presidential race was tight. The swing states Trump won weren't blow out victories and there are a lot of purple districts out there that won't allow for Congress to go off the rails even if that's where Trump's advisers want to take the country.

Jason Lewis has one job - represent the interests of his constituents in Congress. I doubt a majority of his district give a patootie about Assad and Syria. They want the roads, parks, and other infrastructure in good shape. They want good schools, and they want to go to sleep at night and not worry about the door being busted in at 3 AM.
They don't mind paying taxes, but they want the money they send to the government to be used wisely. They care about the military, especially when one of their own is serving. If he/she is in harm's way, they'll pray for them at church.
They expect their representative to be representative of them and their views. The may not agree on everything, just on most things.

He has to learn from mistakes. As much as anything, I'm looking for reasons to remain hopeful for our future. If he doesn't learn, then we're in for an exceedingly long four years.
He's always been an impulsive man, but he's also a man who demonstrated that he's willing to listen to people when he reigned in his antics over the past six months, give or take. Most situations he'll see over the next four years will be pre-planned. It's those situations where he has no time to prep that do make me anxious.
He has to learn from mistakes. As much as anything, I'm looking for reasons to remain hopeful for our future. If he doesn't learn, then we're in for an exceedingly long four years.

Do you know the context from which that line was taken? He was actually making the exact opposite argument using a ridiculous form of rhetoric to make his point during his radio show. Of course, that all doesn't play well in an opponent's attack ad.

As I understand it the debt isn't a huge issue yet, we still can borrow as much as we want on 0% interest and have a great credit rating. But you're right you don't want to increase it to the point where those things aren't true anymore.
