I almost laughed out loud! Stop reading "articles"? You have no idea what kind of "articles" I read. You post good info, but you are too persnickety, especially if you think someone sees things differently than you. I await your telling all others who reference "articles" that they should stop, seriously. :p

Correct, I do not know what type of "articles" you read. The assumptions I have are as follows: Most of the things you read are from news sites or blogs. I have yet to see you reference the CDC or AAP. I assume you do not work at a large university. This means you do not have access to the primary literature on the topics, so you have to rely on others conclusions and summations. Second hand information is not good enough to make an informed opinion about vaccinations.

You can call me all the names you want but no information is far superior than wrong information with confidence ;)

People see things differently than me all the time(yourself included), and I let it go because I do not have a strong argument, do not care enough, or do not know enough. However, vaccination is something I know a bit about, am passionate about, and have read a lot (think primary literature when I say this). If you think I err in my conclusions, show me the literature or at least the expert who disagrees.

Love you Bob :p

Ah, so none of us who don't work at a large university can know much about this stuff. Well, I guess that hits not only me, but a lot of other folks on here, including many who are vocal across the board vaccination pushers.

I'm thinking unless somebody has an MD or an appropriate PhD after their name they really don't know much about this stuff. Even if one were reading the primary literature, how would they put it into context and truly understand how it fit into the jigsaw puzzle of medicine and biology and chemistry?

I am not equipped to critique the wing design of the plane I trust my life to. That's what aerodynamic engineers are for. I am not equipped to critique the chemistry of the vaccines I trust my life to. That's what epidemiologists are for. On each of these topics, even if I devoted years to self-education, my opinion would still be worth zero.

That's not very nice to say to Wisconsin Wildcard!

It's not a very nice thing to say to me, either, but it's true.

Believe me, I share the instinct to doubt and test everything, and I burn with the desire to understand everything, particularly things that affect my family. But given limited time and resources, none of us stands a chance of critiquing a specialist. That doesn't mean she isn't wrong; it just means we're not the ones who can know that; we probably can't even design tests of her hypotheses, let alone carry them out. Only other specialists can do that.

Luckily it was not all self-education ;)
I have disagreed with the literature and I have asked questions. But I have developed experiments, performed them, published them, defended them, refined my assumptions, etc.
I have self-educated my self on other topics (physics for one). But I am not out there questioning the experts on their models or hypotheses because I am lucky if I can just comprehend a small part of their field.

I have been told by a few mentors that your goal should be competence. You should strive for proficiency throughout your career and if you are hard-working, intellectually honest, and lucky, you can be an expert.

Basically this. I wish I could collect my thoughts as well as Kep.

Of course that begs the question of how much you decide and make up your mind for yourself or do you just blindly do what any given expert in a given field tells you. That of course isn't as simple as some would make it out to be.

Glad I don't take the contractors who have worked on, or wanted to work on, my house and yard blindly at what they (who know more about their given fields than I do) tell I must or should do.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

You're not being asked to blindly follow the expertise of a single contractor. You are being asked to follow the building code because it's been defined and refined by experts in the field of construction over the course of many decades. It's far more likely than not to lead to better results (for you and those around you) than using your own instincts and/or reading DIY blogs.

Color me shocked that none of the derp brigade are calling out Roy Moore as an "activist judge" no matter how often they throw that term around at those of a different bent.

Then again, they probably still think George Wallace was right as well.

I'm not sure he's what most would call an "activist judge." That said, I don't know how most people define that term anyway. When I think of an activist judge I think of someone who goes beyond the specific language of a document, statute or constitution to see broad policies or protections. Personally I don't even know if being an activist judge is bad. It strikes me that most statutes or constitutions require some sort of interpretation.

When I think of Moore, I think of the old Posse Comitatus guys like Gordon Kahl and others. People who basically start with the proposition that the people are "supreme", followed immediately by the locally elected sheriff, etc..., until we get down the lowly federal elected and appointed officials.

As they say, it's a viewpoint.

I hate the activist judge label all around. It normally means, "this judge ruled in a way I don't like."

But if you're going to call anyone an activist judge, it would seem to me a judge who is directly stating he does not have to follow the law and you don't either would be at the top of the list.

Oh, please. Have you read the CDC website yet? Or is that just another group of morons?

It doesn't beg that question at all you dumb ****. A simple minded dolt like you should just sit back and do what five year olds tell you to do. It's truly amazing that you haven't forgotten to breath in your sleep at this point.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

One of the few things Scott Walker and I can agree on...turning our backs on UW:

Scott Walker gets away from University Flap
Chron

The prospective Republican candidate for president is traveling in the United Kingdom this week on what's officially billed as a trade mission. It's a trip that also turns the Wisconsin governor's focus toward foreign policy and away from a kerfuffle at home with the University of Wisconsin.

Few things in the state are as revered as the "UW," a fact Walker collided with last week when he proposed cutting $300 million from the university system's budget and removing the century-old philosophical underpinning of the school's mission statement.

The reaction, including from his normally loyal Republican allies, took some shine off the largely positive reviews Walker received nationally after his speech last month at a conservative political conference in Iowa.

"It's one of the most spiteful, mean-spirited and counter-productive things I could imagine, going after the university in this situation," said former state Sen. Dale Schultz, a Republican and a UW graduate who retired this year after 32 years in the Legislature.

The whole idea of judicial activism is a joke. The fact that an entire political party uses it as its hobby horse is annoying but inevitable -- parties use whatever hammer they have regardless of merit. But the fact that there are sitting judges on the Court who hide their agenda behind it is disgusting.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Here's why Scott Walker is your obvious choice for President.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on Wednesday dodged a question about whether he believes in evolution. Speaking at the Chatham House foreign policy think tank London, Walker was asked: “Are you comfortable with the idea of evolution? Do you believe in it?”

“For me, I am going to punt on that one as well,” he said. “That’s a question politicians shouldn’t be involved in one way or another. I am going to leave that up to you.

And for our resident anti-vaxxer.

Rand Paul last week: "I have heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines."

At a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing on vaccinations, Warren had some questions for the director for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC

Apparently there is NO evidence that vaccines cause mental disorders. None.

Much like the trendy use of "climate change" nowadays, the correct way to wiggle out of this is to say that vaccines "trigger the onset of", not "cause", mental disorders. Which conveniently muddles causality.

I'd vote for Walker just for having the guts to shoot down a religious test for political office.
