Ted Cruz really needs to learn to change his message when speaking to different groups.

For example, when talking to people who get their paycheck from the government, don't go on and on about how evil the government is.

"I had to take a shower after listening to that," said Washington state IAFF leader Ricky Walsh.

Not everyone buys into the campaign plan to just tell everyone whatever they want to hear. Quaint notion, I know.

While that may be a true statement in theory, Ted "I Will Say or Do Literally ANYTHING to Increase My Personal Power" Cruz is not the posterchild for speaking truth to power.

Just responding to Priceless post, which claims that Cruz tells at least one given crowd things they don't want to hear.

I take it you've never heard of a "staged hit"? This is going to come as a shock, but sometimes pols are sending messages to one group while speaking to another. Bill Clinton was a master at this, and Cruz seems to have the same viscosity.

Again, just responding to Priceless post. Don't make it more than it is.

The "more" that I'm making it is the implication in your making that post that there are pols who will bravely speak their mind despite their audience. If Cruz was using that appearance merely to give a handy to a different constituency, that undermines your point.

I think there are pols that are more likely to speak their mind in ways that aren't received well by a given audience. Not nearly as many or as often as I'd like. But if nothing else, because there are so many pols who never say anything that remotely goes against the perceived public mood, those who do at least occasionally say something to cut across the grain do deserve some credit. But of course some of the blame goes to the electorate, many of whom only want to hear what they want to hear and not the hard truths that should be spoken at times.

True dat.

Ted's Bad Week continues

Cruz: “I would suggest that almost any American would agree that the core function of NASA is to explore space, that’s what inspires little boys and little girls across this country. It’s what sets NASA apart from any agency in the country.”
NASA: “We can’t go anywhere if the Kennedy Space Center goes underwater and we don’t know it — and that’s understanding our environment. It is absolutely critical that we understand Earth’s environment because this is the only place we have to live.”

NASA has struggled for an identity for awhile now. It doesn't inspire as Cruz is looking for, and there's plenty of other folks to study the climate and all that.

Milhous on the email mess
@dick_nixon: Jarrett leaked the Clinton e-mail thing? My God, good for her. Six years later she learns how the game is played.

Lizzy Warren cutting it up at the St. Patrick's Day Breakfast...

US Senator Elizabeth Warren, who got more laughs than most, took a shot at an erstwhile political rival.

“Since the last time I was here, I’ve really focused on the economy. There are a lot of people out there who have entirely given up on looking for work,” Warren said, pausing for a moment. “But enough about Scott Brown.”

Brown lost his 2012 tilt with Warren and then another US Senate election — this one in New Hampshire — last fall.

The line drew sustained laughter from the Democratic-leaning crowd, as did her dig at a former governor and presidential candidate. “This winter has been so brutal that Mitt Romney left his money here and he went to the Cayman Islands,” Warren said.

Saw an interesting headline this morning (didn't read the story as I was still mostly asleep) that one Al Gore should throw his hat into the ring.

Since we're going backwards into the future, what about Jimmy?

Saw some interesting articles over the last week looking at just how bare the Dem cupboard is behind Hillary, if for some unforeseen reason she were to drop out of the race. Not that I expect her to, but it would be quite interesting to see who might emerge under such a scenario.

I don't think its bare - there are some interesting candidates out there who are not the spouse of the 40th president. But will they run?

I wish they would, as a coronation at the convention is not what this country or Mrs. Clinton need. She needs to be severely tested in the primaries to see if she has the mettle to be president. She was found wanting in 2008, what would make anyone think she has improved since? Adlai Stevenson didn't.

Cupboard is not bare. Saw the ex or current Governor of Maryland (forget his name) on Morning Joe the other day. Sounded good to me. I'd consider voting for him. Elizabeth Warren is a no brainer. Bernie Sanders, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd even vote for Smokin' Joe Biden.

Walker on the other hand is the top GOP contender right now and he's described by many righties as Dangerous.
