Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Yeah, Marco and Cruz still have a shot. Uh, huh.

Ted Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler was forced to apologize to Marco Rubio after posting a widely circulated video suggesting Rubio pointed to a bible being held by a Cruz staffer and said there were "not many answers in it."

Yes I am. I know you love to try and equate local elections to the national but they are two different beasts. (hence why your golden boy Walker had zero chance) Trump has only his base, the 33% of people that are crazy enough to vote for him. That wont be enough to win states in the general. The Blue States will get nowhere near him, the South will at best be split on him, the Social Conservatives will ignore him and the Evagelicals will look for any reason to walk away. He wins only if Hillary has something epic come out against her or the Dems choose to stay home. That wont happen with the Court Justice appointment on the line.

The GOP knows this, that is why they are doing everything they can to stop him. Problem is the coalition is dying...
I think you underestimate evangelicals' antipathy toward Hillary. They may not care about Trump, but they will vote in droves against her. The most fundamental of the fundies' beliefs is that she is Satan incarnate and must be stopped at all costs - including putting up with a Trumpocracy.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Oh, and stick a fork in Rubio. He has Mittens And Tim Pawlenty's endorsement. And he's now Harry Potter to Trump's Voldemort.

Multiple outlets report that in a leaked fundraising memo, the Conservative Solutions PAC compared Donald Trump to "Harry Potter" series villain Voldemort and Rubio to Potter.

I guess no one told Marco that Evangelicals want those books banninated.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

I had to laugh when Lindsey Graham, never the brightest bulb out there, stated that Rubio and Kasich should form a ticket now to take down Trump. Do any of these geezers realize something like that would be music to Trump's ears as he relentlessly exploited a backroom deal amongst Establishment stiffs as yet another Corrupt Bargain? Yikes. Has Graham noticed who's been winning the primaries and why he's been winning?

This. A Hillary/Trump general will be closer than people think, but she should still win as long as she doesn't do something stupid. Lefties who are in the tank for Bernie will mope for a bit once he's done, but faced with the prospect of a Trump presidency, they will all have their "come to Cthulhu" moment and get out the vote for Hillary.

Trump will need to rely on the Evangies hate for HRC while HRC will need to garner that youth vote that feel the Bern. If I had to bet on which group shows up I put a whole lot more on the former. The likelihood that the young'uns say "Eff It, I not gonna vote at all" seems huge

Republicans just can't stop stepping on their own nuts. The party has become a sad husk of its former self.

Kasich is not the "uniting moderate" image he projects. Just yesterday he signed a bill that will defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio.

John Oliver did a report on Last Week Tonight about Abortion in this country. It's pretty startling stuff to hear. The story about the raped 13 year old girl in Texas who can't get medical treatment anywhere because of the laws down there is frightening. I'm scared for future generations.

Hillary needs to inherit the Obama coalition. She doesn't need an influx of new college age voters. That would be nice, don't get me wrong, especially for future elections. However, Sanders ability to bring new voters into the mix has been overstated. I agree completely that a lot of college kids, after feeling that they won't be getting free tuition and free weed, will stay home. However, recall the Obama margin of victory was 5M votes in 2012. She's got some wiggle room and I'd also expect her to outdo Obama amongst older women as the first female nominee.

Evangelicals are already part of the 60M votes the GOP has drawn the last 2 elections. There aren't any more of them who've been sitting out elections. Trump can get that 60M votes that McCain/Romney got. I'm not sure how he finds the extra 6-10M votes he's going to need to win.

Implosions like that are going to help him beat Trump.

Also, funny little tidbit from Morning Joe this morning. If this is a 3 way (Cruz, Rubio, and Trump), Trump wins going away. And there's no votes that go from Rubio to Cruz or vice versa. They all go to Trump.

There's not enough establishment in a 3 way race to get Rubio over the top.

That's not even a hard sell, for those of us over 30 anyway. But I worry that Bernie's Kids sit it out in the Fall. Not out of spite but just sheer disinterest.

Luckily, the GOP is guaranteed to say or do something so heinous that energy to defeat them won't be a problem.

Why isn't it a 4 way race though. Why does Rubio get to make the top 3 over Kasich? In the first three contests, they both finished 2nd once. Difference is Kasich isn't from New England (where he finished 2nd in NH) while SC is supposedly in Rubio's geographic base.

Kasich didn't finish anywhere near Planet Earth in Iowa or South Carolina. That's not going to get it done in Trump World.

Sanders ability to bring new voters into the mix has been overstated.

This statement has absolutely no support, other than "Rover ran this through his Clinton Advantage Algorithm and it came back positive."

The problem with being Hillary's USCHO PR officer is sometimes you say stuff that is just laughable. :p

How would anybody know, at this stage, whether that statement carries any weight? You're going to win the primary, boy... win with dignity.

Because the GOP brass sipping gin fizzes at the club can't tell the difference between browns and thinks Rubio will get them Mexican votes.

Because nationally, Rubio is way ahead of him and Kasich is still in the single digits, only slightly ahead of Carson.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Not wrong about Rubio. The establishment is in lock step over to his campaign. He's got that whole establishment ball of wax now. It won't be enough to derail Trump. Trump destroyed Walker. He destroyed Bush. Trump is the X-Factor in the campaign.

You appear to think that States can't be flipped. We'll see. I bet Trump wins Florida and maybe Ohio if I was to choose right now. That would kill Hillary right there.

Trumps going to win Florida with his anti-immigration stance? Have you been drinking already...

While I think Rubio will win, there are a lot of really old really racist people in Florida.
