Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

See, I watched that too. I thought he looked uncomfortable the whole time spouting that line. I have to believe he had to toe the line to hold South Carolina. Which makes me both happy and sad. Happy that it makes him uncomfortable, sad that he can't bull**** better and has to stoop that low.

I sort of agree. He looked awkward trying to spout the talking point, however it also made him look moldable to ANYTHING. I thought he sounded far too much like Rubio's debate gaffe, TBH. "These are my points...aisle-crossing...unity...we should all be Muricans...did I mention I'm a uniter? Balanced budget as a Rep, did Ohio gov thing where I obviously did good stuff...united aisles, worked with both sides, wooooo!" I just didn't get any substance out of him.

Huntsman never would've said this crap, IMO.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Essentially. All the pundits seem to be saying it's the casino workers she's gone hard for this week that made the difference.

Bernie won the under 40 vote by a whole lot, and the Latinos by 8%. Lost the black vote 75-25, though.

Those Latino numbers could help Bernie in Florida, Texas, and California, though.

Its statistically impossible that he won Latinos by 8% but lost the state by 6% unless he lost white voters as well. Most likely he lost Latino voters as well and is screwed in Florida, Texas and California.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Which would be a tragicomedy, because Bernie's message is far more attuned to unions and their supposed cause than Hillary's. Just goes to show you that many unions are quasi-corporations (with a board and a president) that are in bed with their masters. I've witnessed it with the UAW for decades now.

Queue jj with his spirited defense of unions as still being "for the workers". ;)

And I'll admit, they're still important in some fields. But still, this just goes to show everyone, union leadership will only support candidates they think are winners, not necessarily candidates that are the best for them and their interests (granted, a Hillary presidency would be far better for any union than a Trump presidency).

I'm pretty sure that union (the laundresses, restaurant and hotel workers, or whatever it's called) endorsed Nader in 2000.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Moving on, my thoughts:

1) T-R-U-M-P!!! All the way baby! Now I've been listening to the lamestream media and apparently its Rubio who won by double digits in a state he has no connection to which is also chock full of Evangelicals. Its also Rubio who won all the delegates...oh wait a minute - Trump won? Who wudda known?

2) Nice win by Hillary and Sanders needed this one a bit more than she did. His whole campaign is built around momentum and a surging candidacy and throngs of new voters, etc. That's all well and good but if he keeps losing states (he's not looking good in SC next week) at some point his headlines are going to look as ridiculous as Rubio's. Once the air starts leaking out of the balloon, its tough to stop. Both Trump and Hillary have won outside their home base (New York for both of them). Sanders won in his backyard and Cruz won in a state dominated by Evangelicals. Now some of those same people are switching over to Trump, which leads to...

3) May have to rethink my Cruz prediction depending how the SEC primary plays out. Cruz I expected to clean up in these friendly Southern states. If Trump is threatening his geographic base with momentum, he might not accumulate enough delegates to last over the long haul. SEC primary should be where Cruz emerges with the most delegates given how well he should do in Texas. If he's still behind Trump after that, I don't see him going to the West Coast or Mid-Atlantic and kicking @ ss.

4) Okay, Kep - still think Jebbers! will win the nomination? ;) Lets all thank The Donald for crushing the Bush family once and for all. He practically blamed W for 9/11 and hammered him over Iraq. And crushed everyone in SC.

5) Lastly, I could see Jebbers! endorsing Kasich instead of Rubio. He doesn't like Rubio and Kasich is a fellow governor about the same age and temperament. If Kasich is to win the nomination at the convention as a compromise candidate, he needs to stay in the race until it gets to the Rust Belt where he has to bank a few big state victories to be a plausible alternative.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Limping over the finish line in a state she once led by 30 points isn't "nice" anything, but a win's a win.

Kep its long past time for you Sanders supporters to stop playing this same old tired line. When Sanders was an unknown, she probably had something like a 55% to 10% for Sanders to 10% for O'Malley lead and the rest undecided. She won with 53% of the vote. Her #'s didn't go down. The people who were always looking for an alternative coalesced around Sanders. Great for him, but he still lost. Right now two people are showing strength across the country. Hillary in the Dem primary and Trump in the GOP one.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Bernie is done...he needs wins if he wants the Superdelegates to help him out not close losses. Either way it doesnt matter cause every state Trump wins is one state closer to a Mondale like loss for the GOP.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Our two leaders have ceilings of 33% of the Republicans vs 50% of the Democrats. I can't remember an election in which the voters were as clearly saying, "I hate all these choices."

Hillary is just a lousy product. The only way her market share stays competitive is if nobody is buying competitors' products, either. Unfortunately, the general is going to be a taste test of Hillary vs Not Hillary. I have no confidence she can win that. (Unless it's Trump, in which case the general is Not Hillary vs Not Trump, which presumably she can't screw up.)

Dr. Mrs. insists that although Hillary is a bad campaign product she's a good governorning product. I guess we can hope.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

The definitive obituary of the incompetent Bush dynasty, or "Maureen Dowd, Unexpected Voice of Reason," only somewhat soured by her 30-year fellating of that same family. Man, nobody knows you when you're down and out. Extra points that MD's photo is from roughly 1997.

In my pocket not one penny,
And my friends I haven't any
But If I ever get on my feet again,
Then I'll meet my long lost friends
It's mighty strange, without a doubt
Nobody knows you when you down and out

Whoever hacked Handy's account and started posting under his name....keep up the good work! 100% correct.

Kep stop whining. Sanders and Clinton are having a healthy debate which Sanders thus far is on the losing end of. Once again I'll quote Pierre Trudeau when speaking about the general election. "Don't compare me to The Almighty. Compare me to the opposition." If you think Hillary is losing to Cruz or Rubio I respectfully say that you've got a screw loose. ;)

You sure about that? Ventura and Schwarzenegger both won on the celebrity run. Trump's brought the Apprentice to the Presidential Campaign. If he's winning over Evangelicals and the ex-Military with his background and rhetoric there may be nothing that can stop him.

I agree. It does look like Hillary will win. Bernie is not going to win an Caucus states now. He needed to win Iowa I think for him to get enough traction and it didn't happen.

Stop whining yourself. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news that Hillary is terrible at campaigning, but put it this way: after 2008 and then the opening round of this time, I am hardly the only one who has noticed. :p

However, comparing her to the Big Three:

Hillary v. Trump. Look, she has to win this, because I don't want to live in the world where she doesn't.

Hillary v. Cruz. This one is a landslide for Hillary. Cruz nullifies all Hillary's weaknesses in being just as slippery and ten times as creepy. Hillary may be the crappy sheet your neighbor throws over his head to hand out candy, but Ted is the actual ax murderer crouching in the shadows. Depending how old his daughters are Cruz may lose the Cruz family vote.

Hlllary v. Rubio. And here's our real problem. Rubes is a brainless marionette, but so was Shrub, and the optics of that race are eerily close to 2000. Assume Rubes carries FL and Kasich carries OH (if Rubio doesn't pick Kasich as a running mate the GOP should be relegated and next year the Natural Law party takes all their seats), and now we've got a problem. His particular childlike idiocy and incapacity to memorize and spout more than 5 talking points is still well above the average voter's ability, attention span, and patience. People who can dissect the subtle BS of a Belichick post-game seem to lack the will or means to suss out the far more obvious contradictions and idiocies of political ploys. If an election is a popularity contest, Rubio is the wide-eyed little runt who shows up on your doorstep to take your daughter to junior prom -- yeah, he's a dick, but no worse than the other dicks. Hillary, meanwhile, is the lunch lady who gives you the creeps and may just poison the whole school someday. She doesn't win the lofos in that contest.

Ventura was like LePage, right? He needed a three-way to sneak in? Of course, Bloomberg may do just that.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Primary season! Duck (questions) season!

Why is Rubio and Cruz even on that list? It's over. Trump won South Carolina and New Hampshire. It's never not been over if someone wins those two states. You better start thinking about how Hillary can beat the celebrity whose basically getting support because people hate Washington. And NO ONE is more Washington than Hillary.

Ventura was like LePage, right? He needed a three-way to sneak in? Of course, Bloomberg may do just that.

Sure. But, that could still happen. Trump gets the nod and you'll have 3rd party folks coming out of the woodwork.

Yes, Ventura split the vote down the middle and also brought out a lot of first time voters.

If she's so terrible, why is she beating Sanders? :D How's he looking in South Carolina?

Rubio has little chance of being the nominee, and once again this is where you and the national media are aligned pimping a guy who's finished in 3rd, 5th, and tied for 2nd in the first three contests and is about to get croaked in the 4th (NV).

Rubio will get crushed by Clinton as she makes him look like a guy in way over his head, which in fact he is. W was in his 50's, the son of a President, and a 2 term governor of the 2nd biggest state when he ran for Prez. Rubio is a one term Senator who rarely shows up for work and has shown little ability to connect with people if he can't beat a circus clown from Manhattan in his own back yard.

I dont like any of that mind you, but the writing is on the wall. Hillary is going to win.

Yes I am. I know you love to try and equate local elections to the national but they are two different beasts. (hence why your golden boy Walker had zero chance) Trump has only his base, the 33% of people that are crazy enough to vote for him. That wont be enough to win states in the general. The Blue States will get nowhere near him, the South will at best be split on him, the Social Conservatives will ignore him and the Evagelicals will look for any reason to walk away. He wins only if Hillary has something epic come out against her or the Dems choose to stay home. That wont happen with the Court Justice appointment on the line.

The GOP knows this, that is why they are doing everything they can to stop him. Problem is the coalition is dying...

Um. Trump support is growing. It's not just 33% crazy anymore.
