Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Right, but what happens if the sheriff's office has revoked their permit but hasn't confiscated the card?

I gave you the link. Phone numbers are there. Staffed 24/7*. ;)

*ND had to do that to make VA happy for full concealed carry reciprocity.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

They dont want our help...if they did they would have asked for it and voted for it. This is the problem with the Left we assume everybody wants to be saved by us because we know what is best. They dont.

That is the disconnect, that is why the party got trounced. We didnt listen to what they want just told them and left. Now maybe we are right ultimately but they dont agree.
This is exactly right. There is no question that many people who voted for Trump would be benefited greatly by policies someone like Sanders proposes. But, in a way, people are all still kids. They hate to have someone tell them they have to do it, or to jam it down their throats. The politician who is going to have the most success, ultimately, will be the one who helps them discover that benefit on their own. I'm just not sure how that is done.

There is also another issue which is not getting much play, and that is the demonization of the other side. It's really going to be hard for Democratic politicians to get low income whites to come around to their way of thinking while calling them racist, sexist or deplorable. It's probably impossible to learn, but I'd love to know the impact, if any, of that comment on this election. It certainly can't help when pollsters try to get an accurate assessment of voters opinions before the election.

And to be clear, I do not claim Democrats hold a monopoly on demonizing the other side. It is a two-way street in today's American politics, and, imho, a huge mistake by anyone who uses it.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

To slightly change the subject. Did anyone listen to Trump's acceptance speech? To me, he said all the right things, and really departed from what we've seen throughout the election. Can we actually believe him? I doubt it, but I was surprised with how he actually came across during that speech.

He'll govern more moderately than the persona used during his campaign. How can he not? The office pretty much forces its occupants to move towards the middle, and when you look at his connections, historically, it's right there too. He was buddy-buddy with the Clintons before he put on his politician act, yuuuuge money supporter of Bill's campaign. He had friends and connections from all over the political spectrum. He played a role to win the election.

Save the drama for your mama.

None of that stuff is going to become acceptable.

I think you are naive. Remember how fashionable it became to hate anyone from any country that opposed the Iraq War? Patriotism gets people to think stupid things...

This. Along with the left's tendency to view the world through a very cynical and dark lens (which IMO has been on full display here and across the country) is what has consistently undermined the left's ability to maintain governance for the last 50 years.

Get past that and you may very well find a center/center left contingent to go along and create a solid majority. I can't say I have much confidence that will come to fruition anytime soon, though.

Yes the Dems need to back off this starting at the Inaugural. Point out the racist stuff but stop painting with a wide brush.

Conversely the GOP needs to walk away from their rhetoric as well...and if they dont want to deal with a backlash in the midterms they should wait on anything too crazy. If they repeal ObamaCare in the first two years that is 20 million people losing healthcare that are going to know who to blame. If they overplay their hand it could get ugly for them.

Both sides need to walk it back and fast...if there is anything the protests and calls for violence are showing is we cant take this divide much longer.

Take a step back and consider this. I am usually a conservative voter, and post that way around here, I've argued with most of you over one issue or another, and you probably have had a pretty low opinion of me in the past. In this, I am with you guys, I don't think any of those things are acceptable, I don't think there is any logical way those behaviors should be twisted into some ****ed up patriotism, and I think the things Trump has said and done are horrible. I would like to think that there are others like me as well.

Agree 100%. Both sides have to fix themselves, because both have serious issues. If they do, then maybe we'll be back to something much more civil in 4 years.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

What the ****, Minnesota? What happened to us?

There are individual sh-tferbrains everywhere. I see obnoxious Trumpian "van art" around MD and VA and we're blue.

Morons. They'll never stop makin' em, because morons have more kids.

Both sides have problems, but let's drop the pretense that the threat to "civility" was coming from the left this time around. The tidal wave of filth that came from the right, starting with its nominee and radiating out through his supporters, hasn't been equalled in US politics since Strom Thurmond and his lynch mob.

It's just another classic false equivalency. It's similar to those that actual believe Obama governed as a radical leftist. This country has turned so far right that an entire side doesn't know where the middle is anymore.
