I think part of the problem is that yes, there are fewer locations now. And in fact, North Carolina's GOP has taken away voting locations in predominantly black precincts. It's a kind of very quiet voter suppression. You don't know it's happening until it's election day and the lines are hours long. People don't have the time to wait for hours and hours like that, even with early voting. Voter ID laws are easy to call out as suppression. We can see those because they are apparent before the election.
As to the last part of your post, I partially agree. It shouldn't be a holiday nor should it be moved for convenience. We have early voting now that opens weeks ahead of time. There are really no excuses anymore that you couldn't make it on election day.

Yes...the Democrats have no one to blame but themselves. They voted in lesser numbers than before and some voted for Drumpf who voted for Obama. (and some voted for Stein/Johnson because they suck) The GOP didnt got some huge wave of new voters...they actually got LESS voters than last time. Hillary just couldnt get people to vote. Everything played out exactly how some of us (especially me) said it would in the primaries. We just fooled ourselves into believing it was different. For all her positives she had one big negative...no one liked her. Even women, the easiest block she should have had to win without her opponent being a sexual predator, voted against her.
It isnt the 56 million Drumpf voters who are the problem...it is that ONLY 56 million Democratic voters came out. They stayed home and killed it.
BTW WaPo is right, there will be a power struggle...a badly needed one. Time to once and for all rid themselves of the Clinton Cronies and move forward. The Party needs to go Populist, in the mold of Warren. As I said before, bring back Howard Dean whatever it takes. He understood the need for grassroots electioneering. Then find a candidate that isnt just speaking platitudes...they need candidates with passion and who actually can relate to the people in various walks of life.
The GOP is responsible for creating the monster, but the Democrats get pretty much all the blame for what it became. They could have stopped it...they stayed home. That is why I wont agree with Scooby that everything is inherently red. The map is, and the leadership is, but it isnt cause of a political shift it is because once again people acted against their own best interest. There were plenty of Democratic voters out there still (hell Jill Stein got over a million votes) they just decided they couldnt vote for Clinton no matter the cost. They screwed us over so they could have their principles...just like they always do. That has been the mantra of the Democratic Party for most of my lifetime. They know better and they will prove it, even if they have to destroy the world to do so.

This is the wrong attitude to take. This will gain you no votes from the other side and further alienate the people who are already on your side. We need to do a far better job of educating people about their choices and the consequences. The Democrats didn't do a good enough job explaining the full line of benefits that places like Planned Parenthood provide. That abortions are but a tiny fraction of the services they provide.

I think not at all. One of the things that is overlooked in Reagan's early presidency is that he got shot three months into office. It was an event that changed him from just an actor turned Republican president that the left was exceedingly skeptical of, into something else. The fact is, no matter how much you disagree with a president, we all agree that someone can't just shoot Our American President.
He was bestowed with hero status and he used that enormous political popularity and the power that comes with it to get Dems in Congress to go along with his early policies. Once they got started working together, they continued, and Reagan was able to work with Tip O'Neil in congress on an almost unprecedented run of bill passages.

I imagine Al Franken, Elizabeth Warren, and many others will take the proper tact. And I will continue to vote for them so my conscience is clear. But, I have no sympathy left for the people crying today. None. And I don't have the energy to be emotionally invested in issues I believe in. Life is hard enough as it is.
By the way, the Planned Parenthood thing was explained over and over again. If people didn't get the information then they didn't want it.
I imagine Al Franken, Elizabeth Warren, and many others will take the proper tact. And I will continue to vote for them so my conscience is clear. But, I have no sympathy left for the people crying today. None. And I don't have the energy to be emotionally invested in issues I believe in. Life is hard enough as it is.

I remember hearing on election night, don't recall which network (I was switching back and forth between about 4 of them constantly), that in Florida the "Latino" vote was split. The Cubans were overwhelmingly voting for Trump, while all other nationalities were overwhelmingly voting for Hillary. I have no ideas why Cubans would like Trump.
