According to CBS this morning around 350k Latinos in FL voted Trump. He carried FL by about 120k.
And about 700 in FL did not all that long ago.
Fair enough, and I agree Handy's post is a good one. Let me offer a look at it from a slightly different vantage point.
Four months ago I sat here mortified. Not two days ago, four months ago.
Wait. THIS IS MY GUY???? W T F. No way. I didn't vote for this azz clown. What idiot voted for him??
But a large segment of the political poster group here at USCHO was almost gleeful in proclaiming him "my guy." Even though I had not, and never would vote for the man. Even though I personally dislike the man and despise much of what he stands for. "He's yours" many of you told me. "You belong to the racist, sexist, xenophobic group from which he sprung, so he's yours." "Own him" was what I was instructed to do.
Well, I've got news for you. Now we all belong to the same group from which this guy sprung. It's called the American public. Some of you may choose to paint with a broad brush and declare that group racist, sexist and xenophobic. I choose to take a more optimistic outlook and believe that most aren't. But we're all in it. Even though many of us dislike this guy, did not vote for this guy, may even hate this guy, we "own" this guy together.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Make yourself at home.
I've been reading about how voter turnout was lower than expected. It seemed to contradict what I've seen, read and heard about the astounding number of people that voted early and the long lines on Election Day.
Comparisons of Reagan and Trump are ridiculous, however there is one parallel. This song helped get me through Reagan and it's just as applicable now.
Reagan had been Governor of California for years before he became President. We knew what we were getting. Are they though? Maybe it's not obvious to me. Can you expand on this a bit? Why aren't they?
I look at them and see two entertainers who were swept into office by an uprising from a single voting bloc. We have absolutely no idea how Trump is going to govern. I wasn't around for Reagan's first term so I have no idea what the feeling was like back then. Did we know what the next eight years were going to be like? And I mean did we truly know?
A lot of people(myself included) voted early this year because it was more convenient, but have in the past, and would have this year, voted on Election Day.
The longer lines can be attributed to the first election since the Voting Rights Act expired. Voting on a random Tuesday in November may have made sense in an agrarian society, but it's insane now. Early voting needs to be expanded in a significant way, and/or Election Day should be a work holiday.
If BHO went back to the Senate, he'd probably be on the younger side of the D demographic.
I have vague recollections of a private conversation with PCM from 2008. (Who else 'members PCM? I 'member PCM.)
Pendulums go back and forth to stability (less and less motion); the moves get smaller with time and end in the middle. An anti-pendulum starts in the middle and over swings more and more back and forth, further left and further right. The moves are small at first but get larger and larger until something unfortunate or untoward happens and the pendulum has to be reset.
I said American politics is an anti-pendulum.
The last major over swing was Nixon. Ford was the reset. Carter was the first minor move leading to return motion of Reagan/Bush* 41 which begat Clinton. Clinton begat Bush 43. Bush begat Obama. And now we have Trump.
Either Trump will cause a major reset (ala Tricky Dick) or look for Elizabeth Warren (or someone further politically left) after Trump.
*Reagan and Bush 41 were mild-sauce compared to Bush 43's policies (see Patriot Act).
The only people today who can say with a straight face they didn't elect Trump are the ones that voted for Hillary. Period.
So we have white men in here butthurt that people (many who are not men, or white) are upset. The irony is thick.
That is ****ing bull****. Blame the people that didn't vote, blame the people that voted for him, but it is complete bull**** to blame people that voted, but not for Trump.

I'll have to confess my ignorance on this. What's the connection between the two? Fewer voting places? Fewer machines? Honest question. The longer lines can be attributed to the first election since the Voting Rights Act expired.
Forget about it. Scooby just needs someone to blame other than his purebred mare coming up lame in the final leg.
You think Obama was really the highest we've ever seen the pendulum swing left? He was a moderate in almost every facet. Almost

You are right...and you are right that many of us unfairly dogged you because you spent time trying to explain why people would vote for Trumpf even though you werent. Speaking for myself, I was blind to the idea that people could look past the crap and still cling to an issue. You and Wisko both tried to show us that and we couldnt see it because that is not how we think. We were wrong...
