Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

I am unclear on something: When they go through with defunding the ACA, is there are transition period over which it's phased out for whatever the hell their plan is, or do 20 million people just immediately lose their insurance?

Was just watching the Kelly File or whatever it's called. Don't pretend your side is any different.

Probably isn't. I was just scrolling through channels during a hockey game commercial and saw Maddow running a "greatest hits" video of Trump's most incendiary statements, of which there are admittedly many. Seemed like an odd thing to do when everyone's feelings are still raw, yet most think it probably wouldn't hurt for everyone to take a step back and take a deep breath.

Looking over everything... wow Mike Pence really is pond scum when it comes to his social positions.

I happened to catch that greatest hits list too - also flipping during the Hawks game.

That was some downright sobering and scary ****.

Actually I think it is good to see them all one after the other. Lets us know the reality of who we voted in.

What exactly are you gloating about by trolling Rover? That our country is actually much more hateful and awful than anyone guessed? That doesn't seem like much of a victory.

Read through Shaun King's Twitter timeline for some stories about what Trump's victory meant for many today. You condone it, you own it.

You're just now realizing this? And he's going to be the de facto President, Trump's just going to ink everything.

POSUS - Piece of Sh*t of the United States - indeed.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

The Shaun King Twitter timeline is depressing and enraging.

These people feel empowered by the election result.

They are a disgrace and deplorable.

They feel completely empowered. I've read today wheee they don't have to listen to people like us after yesterday. The graffiti at maple grove high school. I'm tired of hearing they're not all racists- they all knew it's part of him and voted anyway

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Key upcoming dates for President Elect Trump:

- Friday, January 20th, 2017 - Inauguration Day

- Late January/Early February 2017 - Speech in front of joint Congress

- Saturday, April 29th, 2017 - White House Correspondents' Dinner :D

That is going to be popcorn-worthy. Part of me says he will cancel it, and part of me says he can't resist the media attention. I'm going with the latter at this point.

But the guy almost never uses email.

I still think he's the lesser of two evils between the two. We're screwed on women's issues either way because that's what Not-Misogynist-Just-Don't-Cares voted for. Planned Parenthood is probably gone. The only hope with Roe v. Wade is that the Supreme Court firewall can hang on long enough that we get another shot to not screw it up.

But the gay stuff is a political loser. Ironically, it's the non-politician of the duo in Trump that seems to get this. Too many of our valued citizens(white people) fall into that category. I guess it remains to be seen just how far backwards this gang can take us, but that battle has mostly already been fought and the inevitably of societal progress has won. We could have moved the ball significantly forwards on Trans rights issues, but again, the Just-Don't-Care crowd won out.

So if I had to choose, I'll take Pence tilting at windmills trying to keep peepees out of buttholes over Trump starting a war with Japan over a 3AM tweet.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Al Franken said:
While it's clearly not the outcome I wanted, the American people have elected Donald Trump to be our next president. I campaigned hard for Hillary Clinton across the nation because she's the toughest, smartest, and hardest working person I know. I want to congratulate her for not only being the first woman to be a major party's presidential nominee, but also for the extraordinary feat of becoming the first woman in our nation's history to win the popular vote in a presidential election.
I sincerely hope that President-elect Trump will abandon the divisive rhetoric of the campaign in order to help unify our nation. I know that many people in Minnesota and across the country are fearful about what the results of this election could mean for their families, friends, and co-workers. To the people who feel this way—including Muslims, immigrants, women, African Americans, the LGBT community, and people with disabilities—let me be clear: You help make this country great and you should always feel safe and respected here. I will never stop fighting for you.

Well said Senator. There is a reason I want him to run. He is a guy who relates to people and is very well respected.

Incredibly smart too. He'd have my vote.

I voted for Al last time around. I was skeptical when he initially ran and supported Coleman, but I think he has developed into a really good Senator.

I'm gonna keep repeating it: War. This is a war.

These people have now been empowered and they're not gonna stop if we don't fight back.

Hopefully the insurance is gone day one. I hope the bad happens quickly and happens hard. Maybe then enough people will wake up. They always tell us it is only when an addict lands at his or her own rock bottom that they may finally be willing to seek and accept help. Well folks, rock bottom for the nation did not happen yesterday. It won't happen tomorrow. It will only happen when a sufficient number of people in this country are suffering sufficiently enough that real change is going to happen. I don't know if 20 million people losing insurance over night will do it. I don't know if rolling back the voting rights of millions of people of color will do it. I don't know if children literally fuking starving to death in America will do it. In fact I almost weep when I begin to wonder just what will do it.
