Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Then instead of protesting, how about working to change what might happen in the future? Even some Hillary official on CNN (I honestly can't remember his name) said, "We lost. We now have to take measures to fix this. I don't know what good these protests are doing right now."

People are mad and want to express it. They cant fix anything right now anyways.

And that's fair. Just be consistent with what you (royal you) said before the election was done. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If one called out Trump about acceptance, then act accordingly.

Whoa....just saw a Trump effigy.....humor me here....what if that were a Hillary effigy? I can only imagine the outrage. For real.

Hopefully you were also outraged at the Obama Hillary noose costume at the badger football game.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

It wouldnt bother me...that doesnt rise to the level of Obama in a noose. You can try all night to put me in a box you wont be able too. I would defend Trump protesters the night after if he had lost as long as it is peaceful.

Yes the media would overreact...but that is what they do. Since his people have said they want to do way worse it isnt exactly out of left field to be a bit upset imho.

That is the thing lost in all of this...if Drumpf hadnt run on anger and hate he wouldnt be receiving anger and hate. This is what HE wanted. This is what the anarchist "blow up Washington" nutjobs he co-opted want too.

He, as a salesman, read his audience. It's quite simple, and I really have to wonder how the media missed that. People are mad at Washington/gub'ment? Ok, tap into that. Trump did. No matter the cost (he's the bestest and greatest, just ask him ;) ).

America just blew up the presidency, and unfortunately, we hired a madman to do it.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

A personal anecdote:

As some know I take/teach karate in suburban Minneapolis. (get my black belt next month) My instructor is a 40 something Black Woman who is a 4th degree Black Belt, raised a daughter on her own (who now is in her first year at DePaul) and works at a non-profit helping underprivileged minorities find jobs. She is one of the strongest willed impressive people I have ever met and I respect no one higher. I went to teach class tonight and she was sitting in her office completely destroyed. She was angry and almost in tears. Not just for her own lot, she can handle the inherent racism involved in all this...but she knows how things go with the GOP in charge people at her place get laid off which means less people finding jobs for those that need it. Not to mention, half our students are Latino, another quarter are Black or Muslim and this was a nice "F You" to them too. Whats worse is we know there were people in our school that voted for Drumpf or Johnson which to her is a real slap in the face. I have never seen her so dejected, so ready to quit...

The students were the same way. They are freaking out, no idea what to make of it. Thankfully they are still naive enough not to see what a bunch of people are saying...

Here is the thing a lot of us are here are upset, a lot of others are telling people to get over it. Some are trolling and some are false equivocating...but the thing is ultimately most of us are privileged enough not to have this really effect us on a personal level. But put yourself in the shoes of the people that Drumpf tore to shreds for months on end...and realize that 56 million people just said you dont matter and we buy what he is selling. We like to criticize Black people who dont respect authority or dont trust cops and the government...well let me ask you something with all the issues between Blacks and cops the last couple years on top of Drumpf and his party trying to suppress Black vote can you blame them? Watch Van Jones from last night or today...he is a genuine dude and he cant deal with what he saw.

Now imagine you are a Latino. You watched Drumpf insult your people literally since Day 1. He is talking mass deportation and building a wall. 56 million people just agreed with him.

Take a moment and take off your White Male glasses and look at things from the prospective of The Others. How would you feel? Look at what students did at Maple Grove High...look at what Drumpfers did in Pennsylvania with Swastikas...look at Shaun King's twitter feed. (and that is just 1 day!) Look at what happened at Drumpf rallies, look at what he advocated. This isnt about Left vs. Right...it is about basic human decency. There is no sides here except those that treat people as humans and those that respect no one but themselves. Every time some trolling ****** pretends this is the same as 2008/12 they are either completely ignoring/ambivalent to the race issue or they are honestly saying that electing a Black Democrat somehow made being a White Person lesser than. Most people that are upset arent upset that the GOP won, we are upset that a man who preached hate was able to have people hold their nose and elect him.

Good man, Handy.

I like to hope this is the last convulsive attempt of a dying majority to protect itself.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Something else to note, and this is more wonkish on the study of politics than anything practical in and of itself: This is the first time that the candidate leading in the polls coming out of the party conventions has lost the general election. So, you know, it's historic for another reason too.

[applause]

You nailed it.

I can empathize enough to say that of those 56 million, quite a few don't really support the bigotry and misogyny. They voted out of misguided beliefs in his economic potential or in some sort of false equivalency between his and Hillary's shortcomings.

So maybe they weren't all giving a big F U to every Latino, Muslim, African American, woman, disabled person, etc.

Maybe.

But they sure as **** gave tacit support to that monster by thinking that those traits don't disqualify him from representing this country in any capacity. And that's just as bad.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Take off hoser! I need a double-double from Timmy's. FYP :D. But not too bad.

You boys are off shedule, eh. You're trying too hard, eh. Hows bout we strap on the old blades, get some beers, go throw some biscuits in the basket and get all ****ed up, eh? Think about it. Mention shedule, I'm getting stubs to Zed-Zed Top at the Troo Nort in the 'peg, eh, you in, eh? I think you should get off the chesterfield and come with, eh.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear where 90% of the party had their allegiance. He's not having any issues with his own party.

I had a weird idea... what are the odds that Trump just says "**** it" and re-nominates Garland for SCOTUS? It's probably the longest of long shots, but I suppose there's always a non-zero chance that Trump would do any ****ed thing you can think of. He's basically in what Bill Simmons calls the Mike Tyson Zone.

Like I claimed when Trump and Ted Cruz made "nice-nice" (which really helped Trump with Evangelicals apparently, look at the stats) I'm pretty sure the quid-pro-quo was if Trump wins Cruz gets nominated for Scalia's spot.

Recap: It's the ultimate dealmaker's win-win-win: Trump gets 1600 Penn; Cruz gets robe; Senate Rs no longer have to look at Cruz. ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

In all seriousness, I'm getting really sick of all the Van Jones "woe is me" painting-yourself-as-a-victim BS. There have been plenty of opportunities for equality, but every single one isn't good enough. The people making these claims don't want equality. They're vindictive attention-seeking rapscallions using self-imposed discrimination as a crutch for being relevant. The ones crying racism are the racists, because they're being racist in order to fight what they see as racist. Same with every other -ism that was whined about earlier in this thread.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Most people that are upset arent upset that the GOP won, we are upset that a man who preached hate was able to have people hold their nose and elect him.

The people I've talked to who voted for Trump didn't hold their nose. They pulled the level with enthusiasm.

I rest my case.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

So we have white men in here butthurt that people (many who are not men, or white) are upset. The irony is thick.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Just because you don't understand nuance doesn't mean they aren't being consistent. They fully accept the legitimacy of the election results, and that was the concern with Trump, that he would question the legitimacy. If you want to start unifying people, maybe stop calling them hypocrites when they clearly aren't.

And yet, I didn't vote for Trump. I'm just calling out all the stupidity, from the gloating to the whining.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

How do you pronounce Toronto?
Without writing down the formula, what is 8C in Fahrenheit?
What is Tom Clements best known for?
Name 5 Tragically Hip songs.

From the citizenship exam. ;)

I'm a western guy; shall we go to Cal-GARY instead.
Call it 46 F (0C == 32F; 10C == 50F; 20C == 68F; 30C == 86F)
So ... Tony Gabriel? Dr. Death Dave Fennell is still my favorite CFLer (now you figure out why).
I'm a western guy; I'm allowed the alternate question of two Chilliwack songs: My Girl ... Gone Gone Gone; What'cha Gonna Do;

Mentioning Canada, I saw a great photo meme of Justin Trudeau and Trump compared with the Dumb and Dumber guys. :D
