Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread
You still really don't get this, do you?
It doesn't matter whether
I "get this" or not. I was describing what I've seen and heard in this deep blue state. It sure seems like if it were not for Bridgeport and New Haven, Trump would have a decent chance to carry Connecticut, believe it or not. Most folks here really do not like the "cash for influence" business. There were hundreds of "Bernie" signs in the spring, not a single "Clinton" sign. Not too many "Trump" signs either, but there are enough to indicate deep unease in this area.
I always get a chuckle when I read about the Democrats' "ground game." I've seen it in action first hand here: a school bus pulls up to the polling place; maybe 50 or 60 voters get off, each one clutching a piece of paper in their hands instructing them on how they are supposed to vote. Then, when they leave the polling place to get back on the bus, there's a person standing there with a wad of bills, peeling of $20 to each person as they get back on the bus again. Back in Chicago, it was called "walking around money." As long as no one talks and the person with the wad of cash is discreet enough, it's "nothing to see here, folks, move along please." Many people genuinely believe they are performing a civic duty, keeping the "right people" in office. Others only care about the money, prestige, and power.
New Haven and Bridgeport will both be over 95% for Clinton. That makes up for 60% Trump in the rest of the state.
