Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Principles??? I think you misread me. Paul Ryan is obsessed with his carefully crafted image amongst the Beltway Media. He'll concede on behalf of Trump purely to protect his image. Or as bronconick says, it'll be Pence making the call.

He won't defend but will support Trump's claims that it was rigged or whatever convoluted logic he's been using the past eight months. Conceding to Hillary would require enough backbone to risk ****ing off the base and he's already failed that test about 100 times.

Ryan and McConnell are weather-vanes. No help coming from them.

The folks who could really help are the old-timers who are aging out. McCain, Hatch, Shelby, Alexander. The Bush family. The Reagan family. We need them each to make a "that's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown" soliloquy about the peaceful transition of power and the rule of law as the measure of democracy. We need people so fat and comfortable that they do not need to even wink at the tiger. We need moral courage from the right.

Better late than never.

See, I don't think he will. He's a weasel looking to save his own skin. Paul Ryan's career is politically dead, but his career as think tank shill and front man for the Koch's is alive and well. Follow Trump off the cliff and the gravy train ends. Blow him off after he gets crushed and that gig hosting a Sunday talk show or something like that while collecting millions for serving on corporate boards remains.

On NowCast Hillary edges toward 90% (89.8), and she is now closer to AK, GA, MO, SC, IN, TX, and KS than Trump is to the tipping point, CO.

A Great Article About the Arizona Republic's Endorsement

Anyone wanna take bets how Bob Gray feels about that ;)

The little any of us who know Bob through conversations on this board (never anywhere other than this board for me), I'd wager that he's saddened by the threats a grievous wishes made to the AZ Republic's editors and staff. He's always struck me as the genuine article, even if we seldom agree on social issues.

I saw that she's making a push in AZ and maybe GA in an effort to expand the map since she's sitting on a ton of cash. On the flip side I think Trump is running low because he was supposed to kick in 100M of his own money and I'll bet you he stiffed his own campaign! :D

I dunno...it wouldnt surprise me if he was one of the people attacking the people selling subscriptions. Definitely would be against violent threats though.

Senate's starting to tilt some as well.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Going back to the last thread, someone asked about why people hate Hillary. IMO, it's a combination of factors. Male chauvinism/anti-feminist backlash is part of it. Hillary's wooden acting in front of the camera is part of it. The real elephant in the room though, is the name "Clinton". Republicans have spent 25 years ginning up fear and hatred of the Clintons through various means - the right-wing media chorus, the overselling of "scandals" (most of which were imaginary), etc. In many ways, the right has succeeded even when they've failed to nail the Clintons on some phony charge, simply by ensuring the American public is tired of hearing their name in the media.

At the same time they have convinced everyone that all politicians are bad, and that we want real outsiders. And the result of that is nominee trump.

Good timing to have both come to the surface so much.

(BTW, "hate" because someone is wooden? I get where you are going- and bet you are correct- but it's like trump complaints of people's looks- how shallow of a complaint)

Regardless of the subject matter at hand, I'd wager Bob's response would somehow reference the country's most downtrodden minority group, the white, male Christian.

New York magazine and others reporting McCain interview who vows to still block Supreme Court nominations if Hilary wins.
Unreal. Bunch of children who are afraid of this country coming out of the last century. They're all gonna be on the wrong side of history

Why is everyone talking about Bob Gray and Old Pio? One is six feet under, and the other one stopped posting here after we ganged up on him too much.

Handy has a Bob fetish - don't tell his girlfriend.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Their racist worldview has been rejected twice in a row already. As I said I don't expect these people to calm down, even if Trump delivers a concession speech akin to the Gettysburg Address. What you can take comfort in is Trump appeals overwhelmingly to two groups of people. 1) Old people, as those in their 60's and 70's (frankly the WW2 generation still left doesn't seem to care for him, probably because they're seen Fascism in practice in their lifetimes) and 2) Uneducated rural people.

Both of these groups are shrinking rapidly. Subsequently their influence dwindles with each passing year. I just don't think a bunch of 70+ year old are going to have the stamina to ferment a revolution. They will continue to be your crazy uncle ruining family get togethers. But, their champions will keep losing elections until they no longer have the influence to hijack one of our two political parties. I'd be far, far more concerned if young people were buying Trump's schtick while it was the older voters holding the line.

Here's the problem. The trump supporters I know are educated white males and I guess a few educated white females. All are under 50 and most are under 40. One of them was a closeted racist that would make comments that would make me uneasy and he's now just full blown racist with an unrelenting hatred of everything liberal.

Sure, but scumrise always requires at least a discrete look the other way by the right-wing establishment. (Which is gruesomely funny since after the liberals and darkies the mob comes for the "turncoat" conservative establishment.)

This is an old, old story. There is a universal economic failure followed by a recovery. The poor dupes who backed the capitalists against their self interest figure out that everybody else is made whole except them. They revolt, first against the parade of undesirables (anyone other than reactionary Christian whites) and then they begin to turn inwards, fracture, and consume themselves.

I'm glad McCain got that out in the open because he gets too much of a free pass. He is in fact a raging partisan doofus who doesn't mind being used as a punching bag by his own party. Oddly enough in his re-election campaigns he usually counts on a good amount of cross over votes from Dems, but I can't see that happening now. He's entirely dependent on Trump winning and Trump supporters voting for him even after he came out against Trump.
