Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Candidates families are generally off limits, but this is certainly a different kind of election year. So congrats to Donald Jr. for reminding us that the road apple doesnt' fall far from the tree.

Donald Trump Jr. said on Thursday that the media has built up Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and that if Republicans acted the way Clinton has, the media would be “warming up the gas chamber” for them.

His brother-in-law's family, two generations removed from Holocaust survivors must be thrilled with him.

It's somewhat implied when some are intrigued that the electoral map is changing.

Being intrigued at how its changing doesn't mean you're intrigued that it is changing.

Time marches ever forward. Studying how things change over time doesn't imply that you're astonished that things change.

While his point is stupid (the media has never been in the tank for Hillary) I dont think his comment is worthy of any further thought. That headline is Gawker clickbait-esque and completely misrepresents what he is saying.

correct.

seems one can't say anything these days without offending some poor soul.

again, gas chambers weren't exclusively in use for those guys.

That was posted by Kepler earlier today...

And speaking as a Jew, sorry but I just cant get outraged over what he said. It isnt even explicitly a Holocaust comment. It is clickbait BS and is much ado about nothing.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

unofan - on my earlier post.

When we vote on 11/8, we don't vote for the candidate per se, but for electors for that candidate.

If a person voted today for HRC electors, but she subseqently died, dropped out, the electors could not vote for her.

So what happens then to the early votes that have votes for electors for a candidate that no longer exists?

Further, is the candidate formally elected when the electoral college meets in December or when the votes are counted in January in the Senate?

As a Bernie supporter I dont care that the DNC was in the tank for a Democratic nominee. Bernie is as much a Democrat as I am Catholic :p

Pretty much. Bernie and the Democratic Party owe nothing to each other. Bernie was using the Dems as a vehicle because he correctly judged an Independent run was suicide. Likewise, the DNC cheated right down the line for their pre-ordained nominee.

As political skullduggery goes, that's less dirty than your typical race for town ombudsman.

It's clickbait and the poutrage is optional. But it's totally a Holocaust reference. Come on. What, you think he was alluding to Freihofer's?

How about the gas chambers we use in this country? He is basically saying "we would get the death penalty if we did/said what she did/said". My buddies and I say similar stuff only we usually say "we would get the chair if we did that" or "we would get drawn and quartered". I think many of you are reading into it that which isnt there.

I mean come on it makes no sense, why would a Drumpf mention the Holocaust when his daddy hired a Holocaust Denier to his staff? ;)

Not the gas chamber. I prefer the gallows for fascists.

geezer might be the only conservative who's not posting entirely based upon wishful thinking. Refreshing but depressing given how unique he's become.

They would still be the electors. The ballot wouldn't change. And that would equally affect voting day voters as much as early voters.

So what happens then to the early votes that have votes for electors for a candidate that no longer exists?

I don't know all 50 states' election laws, but presumably they would still count the same as any other vote, because as I've said before, the ballots wouldn't change.

Further, is the candidate formally elected when the electoral college meets in December or when the votes are counted in January in the Senate?

Don't see how it matters.

"if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified."

It's pretty clear that if the president elect dies, the VP elect becomes President.

Again, your initial statement was conspiracy theory level babble that early votes risk being voided. That is some grade A b.s. designed to discourage voting.
