Plus there are strong perverse incentives not to be principled. If you vote opposite of what the donors want they switch their checks to your opponent, and if you reach across the aisle for a bipartisan solution, you get primaried by your own party's base.

It is just plain evil where we are at as a country politically.

That looks to me like the Rs finally figured out how to play the Ds game. For the longest time the Ds were the "what about the children" party and emoting on every issue. The Rs were the cold-hearted farhgin' bastages for trying to be logical.

That was what the Rs told themselves, but it was always BS. R stances on flag burning and these colors don't run and gay marriage and abortion and school prayer were based purely on emotion, not reason. One of the best political conversations I had was with a R friend around 1997. He was laying down the classic echo chamber line that "Democrats are emotional, Republicans are logical," and I reminded him that was just what every party-affiliated person thinks: among Democrats, we think the exact opposite. His eyes got big as saucers and he said, "really?," wonderingly. It was one of the few times I ever saw someone absorb a new perspective and overcome his party's rigidly-enforced propaganda.

And I'll say again why do you people get out of bed in the morning? Have a little faith in your fellow man. Two things will happen on Election night. 1) Trump will lose. 2) I will be even more insufferable than I already am as I spike the football. :D

Ironically, reform movements probably hurt. Moves like ending earmarks removed the method by which party leaders enforced discipline and basically made all Members into little Caesars: they represent only the extreme base within their constituency and can't be budged by the national party when it's time to stop posturing and actually govern.

The national parties are also at fault for demonizing each other and throwing red meat to their base over the years, but the problem now is the least reasonable portion of our population decides who goes to Congress, and they pick people who are just like them. In 1994 guys like Newt were freaks. Now they're typical.

Hilary has Maine. Perot did well in Maine but I doubt Johnson and Weld can get to 20% here.

Who's your Governor again? ;)

Very weak candidates the Dems threw out there. The first was pathetic, the 2nd was a complete idiot.

I'm not sure you guys get a pass on the second one. It's like Dubya: once, OK, you were drunk and we all screw up. But the second time? No, man, that one's on you. :p

I'm curious what the Hilary supporters think of Hilary keeping DWS on her staff.???

Heck, even MN only gave "The Body" one term. ;)

Keep your friends close and people who could say something really damaging about what went on at the DNC even closer? :D

I don't see how it looks like anything but that. Looks can be deceiving though :)

No they arent...in fact the number seems to be growing.
This is a concept Rover has yet to grasp. You'd think posting on a college hockey site he would have figured this out by now. Sure, each year you lose a bunch of seniors and all their goals. Then, strangely enough, next year you still have a bunch of seniors who score a bunch of goals.

Angry old white guys who are dying are being replaced at a massive rate daily. Rover is just counting on these guys who weren't so angry when they were middle-aged white guys to stay that way as they age. We'll see.

She's only "honorary," so it doesn't mean anything except what is suggested by others: better camel inside tent pis-sing out than...

As the head of the DNC, DWS acted as though she was on Clinton's staff. Now that she's out of the DNC, she's been put on Clinton's staff. Hardly a complicated or unexpected turn of events.

The DNC is such a clown show. Had everything going for it this time around and still massive screw ups all over by the candidate and the people running it.

May be true, but relative to the area of people with slightly dark skin, and a possible accent, they are not growing that fast. As a matter of fact, they are quickly being overtaken.

And there are also the lack of replacement at some point, too. That person level in my family was 2 generations ago, and has not come back. So....

The only way they can really make it up is for all of the angry white guys to have lots of kids, and actually bring them up within their bubble.

The problem is twofold. 1. Like others have said, angry old white males may be dying off but they're being replaced by younger angry white males. There's a lot of angry, ignorant people out there. 2) Hilary is doing all she can to PO and alienate all the people on the left. Yeah the Bernie people may be crazy to say stuff like "I'm not voting for Hilary even if it means Trump wins, maybe people will learn" but there's an alarming, growing number of them.

No, they're not. At least not being replaced by like minded people. The electorate is becoming less white every year. Its also becoming less conservative particularly as the Silent Generation, probably the most conservative out there, ages out. Greatest Generation people were generally Dem leaners, but there's sadly not a lot of the left (youngest are in their late 80's). The cohort that's mid 60's to mid 80's is the uber conservative one. This is where Gooper electoral strength is slipping quickly. Boomers are a mixed bag, but Gen X and Millennials are lefties. Trump is screwed. The same people that have given Dems the vote in 5 out of the last 6 elections have little reason to switch to Trump.

Regarding the useless DWS, it sounds like a soft landing into a made up position for her in the name of party unity. As long as she doesn't have any actual work to do or public appearances to make, I'm cool with it. I don't think the woman is evil. She's just really, really incompetent.

1) Not enough of them. You might think it was 1988 and the GOP had just won 5 out of 6 elections. Instead its the Dems who've outvoted GOP in 5 out of 6. Go figure. Trump is losing the college educated vote for the first time by a Republican since like FDR's time. He can't lose women (a given), minorities, young people, and college educated people yet still win the election. There's just not enough votes there.

2) What exactly is Hillary doing in this campaign, not something she did 25 years ago, to alienate the left? Examples please.
