Trump gonna Trump.

Used his first presser after the acceptance speech to obsess over Cruz and get in some digs.

This will help the press coverage.

@WSJPolitics: Philadelphia extends bars' last call until 4 a.m. during next week's Democratic convention http://on.wsj.com/29QZJgO

Plenty of establishments in Cleveland did the same, with many applying to the state to offer booze well into the morning. Many though found that the demand was not there. Plenty of businesses noted that they had about the same amount of traffic as in any other week. Some saw more and some even saw less.

And this from the Washington Post. They are not even bothering with putting on a facade of a possibility of endorsing Trump.

Finally saw Stewart's piece. He nailed it, as always. The butthurt "conservatives" (who can say what they really are -- fascists, white supremacists, opportunists, garden variety thugs -- whatever) who cheer Trump wildly and scream "lock her up!" (or worse) genuinely believe they own America.

Paradoxically, the attitude of believing you own America is the most anti-American sentiment possible.

Who were some of the other guests and what night did it air? I'm looking at the Colbert episode list for the past few nights and he's not listed in any of them. Last night the list has Warren, Billy Eicher and case/lang/veirs whatever that is, the 20th has Tony Goldwyn, Mark Cuban, Lewis Black, Corey Kahaney and Wycleaf Jean.

Thanks

They shouldn't. Trump is an extinction event for democracy in America. He can't just lose normally. He needs to be utterly humiliated so this crap does not happen here.

It would be an affirmation if he loses decisively in a manner like LBJ or RMN in 1972 that perhaps we have not lost our way to the extent I think we have. In some ways we are more messed up than we were in 1968. Even with riots in too many cities to count, respected, well know political and social leaders literally gunned down and 1500 US service personnel dying every single month in Viet Nam, somehow it seemed like people cared. Now, do enough people even care we might be about to hand the keys to the great experiment of American democracy to someone who will promptly drive the car straight off the cliff? I have my doubts.

Tim O'Reilly is on to something here,

"What I fear most is that we will lack the will and the foresight to face the world's problems squarely, but will instead retreat from them into superstition and ignorance...

We may find technological solutions that propel us into a new golden age of robots, collective intelligence, and an economy built around 'the creative class.' But it's at least as probable that as we fail to find those solutions quickly enough, the world falls into apathy, disbelief in science and progress, and after a melancholy decline, a new dark age...

Now consider how conservative elements in American religion and politics refuse to accept scientific knowledge, deride their opponents for being "reality based," and ask yourself, 'could that ideology come to rule the most powerful nation on earth? and if it did, what would be the consequences for the world'?

Civilizations do fail. We have never yet seen one that hasn't. The difference is that the torch of progress has in the past always passed to another region of the world. But we've now, for the first time, got a single global civilization. If it fails, we all fail together."

The idea that our civilization can't disappear is arrogance in the most extreme fashion. Dinosaurs managed to last about 185 million years or so and it took a f*c*i*g asteroid slamming into the Earth to wipe them out. Humans have been around for about 1/1000th of that time and we are allegedly a little smarter than the dinosaurs. But are we really all that much smarter if we do ourselves in and the dinosaurs were innocent victims of a piece of space junk that the earth was simply unfortunate enough to be in the way of?

And here I thought the dinosaurs drowned in the flood.

I wonder if the democratic convention will be as much of a dumpster fire as the republican one was?

Has there ever been two candidates from the major parties as bad as this?

So according to my hardcore Bernieite friends Hilary just clinched the election for Trump by picking Kaine as her VP candidate, basically saying its a huge middle finger to every leftie.

I worry about their sanity at this point.

(a) No. The Clinton Machine knows how to stick to the script.

(b) Not in my memory.
