" . . . frightened, angry, or simply bigoted majority." Idiocy so often has that boogey man aspect to it. Muslims are coming to blow you up; homos are coming to ruin the institution of marriage (fallback plan--they first tried to kill us all with disease); Mexicans and the lazy poor are coming to steal your take-home pay; intellectuals are coming to shame and deceive you; the government is coming to tell your grandma when she must die.

Robert Kagan, who never met a Muslim he didn't want to waterboard, has it in for Herr Trump.

When Cato and CAP and PNAC all agree that a candidate is a menace to the Constitution, perhaps people should... listen?

Don't worry. If Drumpf oversteps his bounds, Eddie Munster, er, I mean, Paul Ryan will sue him.

The Bern is going to start feeling the Bern.

As HC is gaining favoritism to win the election, Bernie is seemingly more and more out of touch in his resistance. It's taking someone who has been an inspiration and turning him into an older guy who is out of touch. Note he doesn't get much discussion on this site any more.

Stuff like this worries me a little.

Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) practiced getting arrested at a progressive conference over the weekend in preparation for the police response to the protests they've planned for the July Democratic National Convention, Buzzfeed reported.

While outlining their plan for “direct action” protests at the Philadelphia convention, several dozen attendees at the People’s Summit conference in Chicago rehearsed their interactions with law enforcement. According to Buzzfeed, the training session included lessons in how to march, how to create a “human chain” to defy police orders to disperse, and how to comply during arrests. The trainers, some of whom wore badges identifying them as “police,” emphasized that the protests would be non-violent.

That's liberal Old Think, where you wheel out the old "Free Mandela" tactics to protest... I'm not sure... having to pay the student debt you legally incurred?

This isn't the kind of distraction that is needed. I would have loved Bernie winning but he lost. Delaying throwing in the towel does two things that are equally bad:

1. Brings back old memories of circular firing squad 80s Democrats who make themselves a laughingstock of the country. The country has a new laughingstock. Don't distract from him!

2. Makes the hard left look clueless and sophomoric. We should be organizing inside the party, getting experience, and preparing to take the party over from inside in 2020. This stuff feels great around the bong and dorm room but accomplishes nothing. Do the hard work; you are not entitled to set the agenda if you lose -- so stop whining and prepare to win next time.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

I actually laughed out loud.

“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement to The New York Times.

“The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, and by forest I mean dumpster fire,...

About 1,000 Republicans nationwide participated in a conference call Sunday night discussing the effort to prevent Donald Trump from getting the Republican presidential nomination at the party's convention next month, according to organizers.

As I've said before, its important for party unity to separate out Bernie's issues from Bernie the man. Sanders brought up some good issues during his campaign up until a couple of months ago. Then Bernie the man took over, a thin skinned possibly senile old crank with a God complex! If Hillary Clinton is good enough for Elizabeth Warren, she ought to be good enough for Bernie Sanders.

Bernie is sticking around to make sure that the progressive agenda is incorporated in the Democratic platform.

Liz is sniffing around to keep the big dogs from Wall Street honest. She can't keep them off the yard. All she can do is make sure they don't poop on the platform.

This is horsehs-t but more importantly it's NOT the problem. The people organizing for protests aren't acting on instructions from Bernie. They're hard lefties who show up at every event with "Hey hey, Ho, ho; Grievance of the week has got to go!" and they're worthless. They have never accomplished anything but terrible optics and they don't understand how real politics, organization, and leadership work. They're probably mostly kids but that's no excuse -- plenty of kids learn and work for real change.

You're angry at the wrong people. Bernie people were at least in the process. These people are just professionally irritating.

I'm not big on labels. But I don't see Bernie as progressive (and perhaps not even liberal), but rather populist, left wing or almost socialist.

If you take two differentiators - free education and pro consumer to the point of being against business - those are views that are not liberal in the sense of moderation and not progressive. Sure, progressive is change. But not change for the sake of change...that's anarchy. Throughout our history, real positive change including that of LGBT were based on a societal warming. It took years, decades of societal approval increasing from 20%, 30% to 40% approval for the change to show it was correct. Bernie's concepts haven't merited being progressive in nature...but rather just radical and left wing.

Kep, Sanders deserves some blame here. Maybe even a great deal. Had he took his loss like a man, we might not be having these problems. That's why I added the distinction of the last two months. He's spent that entire time not talking about the core issues that got him here, but how the system is rigged and how he kept getting cheated and other such nonsense like DWS conspired against him. Do you know what I'd do if I was running for office and somebody told me Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was working against me? I'd start writing my victory speech. :D

So you're telling hard core professional agitators that you didn't lose legitimately, but because of some conspiracy. Now they might cause trouble in Philly. You can't draw a straight line between those two events? Sanders turned into an A-hole. That doesn't make the issues he raised any less important, but it sure does distract from them.

Heh.
@alivitali

Drumpf camp source downplays Corey's success: he "ran the tour. The tour manager for the Stones doesn't get inducted into the hall of fame."
@BigNoahPeters:

@alivitali Uh Ian Stewart was the Stones' tour manager and was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1989

Again, this is horsesh-t. Bernie's saying all the same things -- he gives 3-hour Castroian speeches about inequality and plutocracy and the murder-suicide of capitalism that is neoliberalism. He had some sporadic criticisms of Clinton and the DNC and the media went 24/7 on them because they need conflict to sell cars and beer.

Hillary supporters miss that Bernie only cares about the ideas. The Clintonistas are the ones obsessing about his schedule.

Hillary's sole relevance to Bernie is the extent to which she fails to incorporate Democratic principles into the Democratic platform in Philly. joecct is right -- he is hanging around to force her to act like a Democrat. Based on how things are going, it's working great, and it's going to help her win, so stop clicking your Prussian heels together expecting everybody to snap to attention.

Hillary is the horse, not the purse.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

This is the greatest grifting operation I've seen yet. I'd say of all time, but I thought that about Palin and Gingrich in '08 and '12, so '20 will probably be more. He's got what, 50 campaign staff members?

30. He travels light.

Hillary probably has 30 make-up people.

Trump may be about to be bitten by his own grift, though.

I heard an interesting story over the weekend about an authorized biographer of Trump who estimates his net worth, including all assets, may be about $900M. Trump routinely claims to be worth ten times the amount. Seeing as how Trump has actually not done anything but trade on his brand for the last 25 years, he may be in the process of destroying his image.

This should help with Republicans, anyway.

Donald Trump’s economic proposals would isolate the United States, hurt its economic growth, increase the federal deficit and cost millions of American jobs, according to new analysis.

The grim findings from Moody’s Analytics state that the nation’s wealthiest would benefit the most from the presumptive GOP presidential nominee's proposals, while middle- and lower-class Americans would be hurt the most.

But weren't we told in grammar school that Thomas Jefferson's embargo was good for the USA as it jump started US businesses and decreased America's reliance on foreign goods? Or was that when history was not all the white man's fault??

Protectionism might help a formerly extractive colony trying to create its own industries. I believe Japan also modernized that way.

I can't really think of any other situation where it would be good, and that certainly doesn't apply to the US now.

Africa, though, should tell the rest of the world to go pound sand.
