Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Well, she did serve in the Senate twice as long (8 years) as Obama (4 years, less than full term).

Quoted in the WaPo
Obama later said of Clinton, “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."

Thomas Jefferson comes to mind.

What I'm getting is today's liberal is finally admitting what has been in the liberal's heart all along.

Sorry, but after the bully keeps stealing your lunch for thirty+ years, you either resign yourself to going hungry, or you kick the bastid in the balls and beat him to a bloody pulp.

Don't know where you get this idea of what liberalism is. Well, no, that's wrong, i know exactly where you get it from. The fantasy world that the right wingnuts live in.

Like I said, Trump is the over-swing of the American political pendulum post-Obama.

And I'm probably going to end up voting for Gary Johnson because I can't vote for any of the rest.

You mean the center-right Chamber of Commerce friendly Obama?

Some backlash.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

I can't think of a single issue the GOP could credibly claim right now that would help them expand their party while also holding on to their base. The GOP problem is that their base has separated out from the rest of the electorate. The gap that used to be between Dems and Republicans is now between casual Republicans and base Republicans.

It's not like they have an obvious solution which they are not taking. They have a really awful decision to make: slam the door on the base, move two standard deviations to the center, and start competing for the middle again. This is their only long term move but in the short term it's going to REALLY hurt. They ought to have done it after 2008, but the 2010 midterm gave them a false sense that they could still bluff it out. Now here they are 6 years later, still bluffing, only at the top of the ticket a riverboat gambler has called their bluff.

Their solace is the Democrats will eventually overreach. Even though the Dems have barely even recrossed the center line back to the left yet, we will, and eventually we will go too far, and the GOP will once again be able to capture the middle. But the sooner the GOP gets off their duff the shorter a turnaround they have to endure. Had they moved with alacrity after 2008 they might even be almost done by now; instead, not having started, and letting the rot set it in even deeper, it could now take them a decade or more.

By all means, take your time. 5-4 is OK, 6-3 would be better, but heck, if you insist I'll hold out for 9-0.

Ain't gonna happen. Once Trump loses it'll be all, "If only we'd nominated a true conservative, we'd have won", and you'll have four years of listening to Ted Cruz' adenoidal whining.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

I just don't get this group think.

Let's assume Trump literally just did not exist. Wouldn't the nominee be somebody like Cruz? They're both equally likely to lose to Clinton, simply because of demographics. In fact, isn't Cruz closer to the Republican party line of no welfare (for others), no taxes, "family values" (no same sex marriage or abortion) and keep the immigrants out? Trump isn't even really running on those except for his "wall" nonsense.

Trump's the nominee simply because he's a better communicator than the rest of those guys. Good or bad, he has more charisma. But to suggest that the natural progression of Republicanism is from Nixon to Reagan and ultimately where we are today, producing Donald Trump is kind of silly. It actually produces Ted Cruz.

I could see this argument if Trump was running against same sex marriage, against immigration and muslims, against new taxes, against welfare, against abortion, against Obamacare, while Cruz, Kasich, and Rubio et al were more moderate. But that isn't the case at all.

Which is true. And behind closed doors, these guys probably sound exactly like Trump. But Trump's just much more boorish(than even Cruz?) to actually say these things out loud.

Which is why Cruz getting the nomination would have been the best thing for the Republican party. They would have finally nominated their true believer Bible-thumping Conservative messiah. And when he got crushed, they'd no longer be able to fool themselves into thinking that Americans won't vote for them cause they just aren't Conservative enough

Then they could start the long and deep self-examination that could lead them to new policies and new ways forward. But this won't. they'll jost blame it all on Trump, and keep on living in denial.

Elizabeth Warren is eviscerating the Republican Party right now. It's a full scale slaughter.

You and the other 7 people watching are really enjoying it

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

And what's the White House doing to Mr. Obama's endorsed candidate?

Administrative issue? --> "Criminal investigation".

Ms. Warren's having her fun; but it seems the White House is self-immolating the Democrat party.

Yeah, I have no idea how anyone on here thinks the GOP are your guys...

Russia could steamroll NATO forces in just 60 hours, a leading US defence official has warned amid rising tensions with the west.

Oh, FFS. Russia could always steamroll NATO in 60 hours. That's why we have nukes pointed at every KHL rink. Well, that and Kovalchuk.

glad she is getting her face out there. nobody knows who she is, and the more people learn about her the bigger joke she will become.
