Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

Funny. A friend made that exact point to me today. My response was...Bernie may start with a further left position than Obama. But if he's much further left than Obama, he'll lose part of the Congressional Dems. Then he's got bigger problems. I don't see the net outcome on average being any better than Obama's.

The change was in 2006 and 2008. The GOP broke troth with the American people and got sent to the wilderness. Then after PPACA, they campaigned on the government overreach and got back in power. They proceeded to repeat the same copious quantities of nightsoil from a well fed male ox from the past Congresses. They will get turned out again. Until the senior leadership starts cashing in on the retirement plan, they will continue to lather, rinse, repeat.

I remember the Congresses that cooperated with the Administrations whether they were both of the same party or opposite. I remember Congresses where they worked together and worked around and through the differences. Maybe in the years that I have left, I will see that again. But we need to stop electing the fringes.

This! They had a very good show on NPR a few yrs ago that explored the change from cooperation to ousting anyone who compromised- the mechanics of it and who orchestrated it. It made me very cynical. $$$ does really win.

But you must admit that there is a pretty big difference between Iraq and being in the chair as the entire country went down to Dow 6600...vs. PPACA (which even many GOPers now thing we should keep but perhaps adjust).

Plus the objection to Obamacare is ideological, whereas Iraq and the crash had tangible effects. When the GOP wants to criticize the Democrats it has to resort to chimeras of "tyranny," whereas anybody who wants to criticize the GOP only needs to look at hard data. Ideology aside, the Republicans just aren't very good at this whole governance thing. It shouldn't be a surprise, because since about 1994 they don't even believe in it (which makes one wonder about the motives of those who choose to do it for a living...), but since we haven't yet attained the Great Austrian School Nirvana of peace and prosperity through the action at a distance of the benevolent, perfect information market, in the meantime there's really no reason to turn the keys over to a drunk driver who doesn't believe he needs to drive the speed limit or observe traffic signals, and that you don't have a right to a seat belt or air bags, even when he's bearing down on you and has a history of putting his car (and yours) in the ditch.

I thought Ted Kennedy was a Democrat?

Evil? Perhaps. Shallow? No more than most. Misdirected? Brainwashed? Willfully ignorant? Undoubtedly. But... good lord, people, just try and tell me this woman is not insanely arousing. Talk about a short skirt and a long jacket.

She's all yours. Does nothing for me.

Bernie may win Nevada yet, because it's 2016 and we're still using three different rounds of voting for a single election like we did when the telegraph was invented.

There's kinda sorta a reason for that. Delegates are basically running through a March Madness bracket. The actual primary/caucus just selects the field of 64, and you have to get all the way to the Final Four to go to the convention. Plus the people voting on the delegates is different in each round, with the state party taking a bigger and bigger role in each successive round (in order to protect their interest). It's a highly undemocratic process because, and this is a secret, political parties are extraordinarily undemocratic machines designed to enforce bribe--, er, donor policy preference and distribute patronage. You know: small-r republicanism. Plus, the people involved are human, so little things like the voters' intent tend to get left in the pending tray while more important issues like how do I reward my mistress' dirt bag cousin who is blackmailing me get taken care of.

Ever since she started the whole Claire Underwood look... well, there's not a dry panty to be found.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

This is genuinely interesting. There have always been forces (badly outgunned) in the GOP trenches trying to drag them out of the Iron Age, but apparently the drafting committee meetings this year are going to be more heated and closely contested.

Having come of age politically during the Carter years I literally have never seen a Republican party not dominated by the knucks. That battle was fought and lost in smoke-filled rooms during the epic Ford-Reagan maneuvering in Kansas City, and the Thumpers never looked back.

40 years later, a tiny crack of sanity is opening, driven... well, not by morals or conscience of course... but by the one thing Republicans listen to more than auditory hallucinations from invisible men...

The group is looking to lobby delegates across the country — including in liberal, gay marriage-friendly states like California, and in more conservative strongholds like Georgia and Texas, where it is convinced some party figures may be receptive to message. In North Carolina, the organization is seeking out individuals who have been turned off by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory’s support for a law that would require transgender people to officially change the gender specified on their birth certificate to use the public restroom of their choice.

In many states, the group has already put in weeks of work, identifying people who they think would be favorable to them and encouraging them to seek out Platform Committee slots. A central part of the pitch to delegates, Henry said, is that the party needs to moderate its approach — or face electoral consequences.

“It’s necessary if the party is to remain viable in the years to come,” she said.

No sh-t.

It would be nice to actually have two adult parties again. Maybe someday.

Bernie may win Nevada yet, because it's 2016 and we're still using three different rounds of voting for a single election like we did when the telegraph was invented.

From NBC:

"When it comes to the delegate race on the Democratic side, here's Nevada political reporter Jon Ralston: "Despite losing the state on Feb. 20 in the caucus, Bernie Sanders' campaign swarmed the Clark County caucus and probably flipped two delegates from Hillary Clinton's camp... That is expected to switch two delegates to Sanders, giving Clinton an 18-17 lead in Nevada." But per NBC's Decision Desk, it is critical to remember that the At-Large/PLEO numbers can and probably will change at the Nevada state convention on May 14-16. These county convention results do NOT change the winner of the Nevada caucuses. Clinton won Nevada, based on the Feb. 20 results. The results of the succeeding levels do not change that. "

The weird thing is, she's not. Dumb, that is. She is likely the only person in the entire Echo Chamber with an IQ over 70. She's smart; she just had some sort of autobiographical defect that made a smart person believe some really, really dumb things.

Kelly is in it for herself and the money. Nothing stupid about that. Is it disingenuous? Hell yes. Immoral? Depends on your own moral boundaries and political views.

This is beyond unbelievable. A new Trump video has a shot with Trump facing his supporters—including a guy with a home-made KKK shirt on, in the front row. He’s also wearing what appears to be a yellow star like the ones Nazis forced Jews to wear. Freeze the video at 1:38.

Pretty tough to be altruistic on this planet all the time. Bet she does plenty for charitable organizations. May as well cash out if you can.

The worst part of the depiction is the illusion that the country is at war with itself. If you don't understand the problem...you have no chance of finding solutions.

Now Trump calling on the Gov from Ohio to retire from the race as he is getting in Trump's way to win? The logic of this escapes me. There have to be very few people that have an ego the size of tD.
