Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River
This! They had a very good show on NPR a few yrs ago that explored the change from cooperation to ousting anyone who compromised- the mechanics of it and who orchestrated it. It made me very cynical. $$$ does really win.
Funny. A friend made that exact point to me today. My response was...Bernie may start with a further left position than Obama. But if he's much further left than Obama, he'll lose part of the Congressional Dems. Then he's got bigger problems. I don't see the net outcome on average being any better than Obama's.
The change was in 2006 and 2008. The GOP broke troth with the American people and got sent to the wilderness. Then after PPACA, they campaigned on the government overreach and got back in power. They proceeded to repeat the same copious quantities of nightsoil from a well fed male ox from the past Congresses. They will get turned out again. Until the senior leadership starts cashing in on the retirement plan, they will continue to lather, rinse, repeat.
I remember the Congresses that cooperated with the Administrations whether they were both of the same party or opposite. I remember Congresses where they worked together and worked around and through the differences. Maybe in the years that I have left, I will see that again. But we need to stop electing the fringes.
