Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

Are congressional repubs REALLY gonna negotiation with anyone?? Bern or hilly?!?

Flip it. Are congressional dems REALLY gonna negotiate with anyone?? tD or Texas Ted?

Therein lies the problem. Both sides think their nightsoil is perfume for the masses.

of course, there's about a 0 percent chance that there's a democratic congress with either nutjob one or two in the White House. There's a strong likelihood that the House stays GOP even if Hillary or Bernie win the WH, and a decent chance the Senate doesn't flip, either.

But I know, I know, BSABSVR.

Track record has the last 2 years of Bush43 as an example with an all D congress and GOP WH.

Out of curiosity, do you really believe both sides are equally intransigent? Do you really think both sides are equally extreme?

And we all remember the Democrats shutting down the govern-- oh, wait.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

And at least Bernie, when it comes to negotiating policy, will start with a left position and then compromise to the middle, unlike Obama, at least in his first term, who began negotiations just barely left of center, if at all, and then ended up with some sort of center-right, or fully right final bill.

Here's where I have an honest disagreement. I see Bernie as an absolutist, not a negotiator. Compromise = abandoned principles in his world. I base this on his scant record of legislative achievements despite 25 years in Congress, for some of which the Dems had total control of the government. Furthermore even having the GOP in control of another branch never stopped Ted Kennedy from getting stuff done. Bernie is a leftist version of Ted Cruz in terms of legislating. His way or nothing.

I know you are but what am I.

Thought I'd distill your argument to its childish essence Kep. Bernie is losing not because of some secret DNC cabal engineered by evil genius Debbie Wasserman-Schultz   or because he can't get his message out. He's losing because his plans are insane, and people aren't willing to pay Scandinavian level taxes for the dream of immediate single payer. Its also unclear how cracking down on Wall St will fight racism or defeat ISIS.

That's the Clinton spirit! When the world doesn't correspond to your narrative, blow some smoke and drop some snark.

I can't for the life of me understand why her followers aren't more respected.

The Iron Lady is going to wheeze and buy her way to the nom. Unless something truly horrible happens she will wipe the floor with either the giant do-che or the sh-t sandwich in November. We'll take the Senate and maybe shave ten seats off the House deficit.

Hillary will be an excellent president as far as she goes. On foreign policy, hopefully that's not far at all. On domestic, hopefully farther than one suspects. She will consolidate Obama's gains and shore up the firewall against the orcs. The GOP will either fracture or heal or more likely just continue to waddle along like an aimless drunk throwing out the occasional racial slur or meaningless threat. Time will pass (but it would have anyway).

And Sanders supporters are? There is no Hillary Bros counterpart to Bernie Bros that I'm aware of.

I noticed you skipped the part about Bernie gettin' Berned on the fossil fuel contribution allegation...

For a guy who was supposed to be a different kind of politician, he sure seems pretty similar....

You'll have to remind me, because I don't remember the Dems shutting down the government, threatening default, or refusing to do their jobs.

The 110th Congress passed about three times as many bills as the current do-nothings.

Funny. A friend made that exact point to me today. My response was...Bernie may start with a further left position than Obama. But if he's much further left than Obama, he'll lose part of the Congressional Dems. Then he's got bigger problems. I don't see the net outcome on average being any better than Obama's.
Obama has managed hate from both sides. My extremist Right friends - the ones who think Palin is really not stupid a a box of rocks, the Liberal media has crucified her!!1!!- think Obama is a socialist, communist pinko. My extreme Left friends- who think in all directions, can't even quantify them- think Obama is a Right wing plant controlled by big business and has abandoned the party.

Are congressional repubs REALLY gonna negotiation with anyone?? Bern or hilly?!?
See above. We could elect Mickey Mouse and no one knows how to be adult enough to govern at this point. The Libertarian/anarchists are really getting their way without having anyone they like elected. We don't have a functioning gov't. Haven't in awhile.

Gerrymandering makes it very unlikely the House won't be (R) until 2022 barring a massive implosion like Trump as the nominee and Cruz running 3rd party or vice versa.

Just say No, baby! But the Dems would never shut down the government. One of their prime constituencies is government unions. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The GOP has an interesting suicide pact with the American people. First they promise smaller government and stop the intrusion of government into our lives. Then, once they get in power, they do the exact opposite - for the exact same reasons as the people they replaced - "BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!". The GOP voter realizes they elected the same sort of scumbag they replaced and either stay away at the next General Election, or vote the Bhastud out.

It's "We the People", stupid. Not "We the Government".

Yeah, they claim the government is broken, then go out and break it ala Kansas, Louisiana, and Wisconsin, then blame the Democrats for the broken government. And a significant portion of the American public buys into it. Including, apparently, you.

Don't worry, Kansas has a solution: bathroom dick bounties: http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2016/03/22/3762490/kansas-transgender-ransom-bathrooms/

Really? Who helped pass W's prescription drug bill? Who jumped on his Tarp plan to bail out the big banks? Probably a number of others that i can't recall right off the top of my head.

Really? How many (R) sitting members of Congress have the voters voted out over the last few elections? Other than the moderate voices they chit-canned to put T-bag whack-jobs in their place.

And you might want to take a look at the number of federal government employees during Obama's term.

mookie thinks D are more rational. they realize there are other people and forces in the universe. congressional R think the planets orbit their district and stand their ground hell or high water. f if anything they do hurts the bigger picture.

The change was in 2006 and 2008. The GOP broke troth with the American people and got sent to the wilderness. Then after PPACA, they campaigned on the government overreach and got back in power. They proceeded to repeat the same copious quantities of nightsoil from a well fed male ox from the past Congresses. They will get turned out again. Until the senior leadership starts cashing in on the retirement plan, they will continue to lather, rinse, repeat.

I remember the Congresses that cooperated with the Administrations whether they were both of the same party or opposite. I remember Congresses where they worked together and worked around and through the differences. Maybe in the years that I have left, I will see that again. But we need to stop electing the fringes.
