I guess we shouldn't be surprised. More than half of the truck drivers are probably ODed on a combination of caffeine pills and meth.

Not really. Those are not long hauls (at least the ones through the OR coastals). They're just impossible runs -- the loads are enormous, the grades are steep, the roads are slick and sometimes half washed out. They pull the lumber out with those gargantuan locomotives they use in mining. That part's all fine.

BUT, the timber is too high to run a rail spur so they either need a river, a flume, or trucks to get to the mills. By definition, the terrain is already difficult and then you throw in coastal rains and fog. The high elevation roads are restricted and one way, but they still have to share the pass roads with regular traffic, and that's where it gets hairy.

In case anybody wonders why it's a big deal, this gives you some idea of the scale of a logging truck's load and a normal vehicle. The trucks easily get up to 60. F=ma.

Why not? Don't compare him to The Almighty, compare him to the opposition. His main opposition isn't Republican Jesus in the primaries. Its Carson, Cruz, Jebbers!, Rubio, etc. Small wonder he's leading.

Can attest to this having family living in Florence. The road between Eugene and Florence can be a hairy drive and the 101 is about the same.

I thought he meant if Trump is the nominee, will intelligent conservatives actually pull the lever based on party, will they take one for Team America and vote for Hillary (and straight ticket R downticket), or will they, as busterman62 suggests, split the difference and stay home, which might actually work out best for the Dems?

Agreed. She is Wall Street to a T...Trump is an uncontrollable animal. I know you hate the movie but he is Joker from the Dark Knight. He is pure chaos and not able to be contained.

I don't hate the movie anymore. I have a feeling I was conflating (unfairly) the work with my visceral disgust at all the pimply fanboys calling it G.O.A.T., and with distance I've been able to accept it on its own merits. I've actually really started to enjoy Ledger's portrayal of the Joker. It is a great job with great writing. I still loathe Nolan's crypto-fascist Batman, and in general think the whole series is just an adolescent circle jerk of faux-profundity, but the movie has its moments. I've promoted it from an F to a C.

Here's the thing, though -- Trump isn't the Joker -- he's Nolan's concept of Batman -- the outrageously wealthy self-identified man of destiny who will throw out all of our democratic process with its corrupt bathwater. He is the evergreen dream of the right fringe: the "tough but fair" authoritarian god who will "set things right." It's a good thing Trump is also a buffoon, because if he talked in a low, gravely voice and sagely and sadly "thrust the crown away from him three times, but each time I think a little less willingly," we'd have a genuine threat of a right wing coup.

This in itself is almost understandable; The Donald is the most outrageous way for the belligerent early-primary activists to show the world that they're having a temper tantrum about the brown people and whatnot. but...

This is what I meant. When it comes down to The Donald vs. Hillary for the actual presidency, I can't in my worst nightmare imagine that a majority of the electorate would actually follow through with a vote for a completely foolish, angry, soulless, weirdo game show host.
