The Democrats picked up 26 House seats in 1982, giving them a 52-seat majority. The Senate basically froze in place. The Democrats started hemorrhaging southern seats after that (a few incumbent Dems even switched to save their hides) as the racial strategy really started kicking in.

You know better than that...those polls mean nothing until at least 5 more candidates drop. The Non-Trumps will have to support someone and it wont be Jeb and I doubt it will be Rubio either.

I was amused at another hopeful analysis that if the Establishment decides to consolidate in NH and Christie and Jebbers! and Kasich all get behind Rubio his poll #'s would be almost equal to Trump's. Yeah, like that's going to happen. :rolleyes:

Best hope to knock off Trump is going to be if he loses Iowa decisively and that cracks his aura of being in the lead everywhere. Problem with that scenario is once again the strongest force outside of his supporters are Evangelicals, and they're split between Carson and Cruz (and I'm sure Huckleberry and Santorum will pick up a few). As of right now Trump has no real challenge in New Hampshire and we're running out of time for someone to make a move.

This makes it sound like it's Trump's to lose. I thought your berries were in the Cruz camp?

The GOP race is starting to look like the Tragedy of the Commons. Candidates know that Trump has to be taken out, but any candidate who makes a move against him risks blowing his shot at the nomination because of the blowback from Trump's Know Nothings. Their best shot is if they all attack at once from all sides, evenly distributing the Tea Party anger. Once Trump is toast, they can all start genuflecting to the herpa-derps again, and the hypocrisy will be evenly distributed.

But nobody is stepping up. The one guy with any yarbles is Cruz and Cruz is fellating Trump. The rest of the field are cowards or sleepwalkers.

Faux went from hating Trump to going full Trump on the bit. (they always fear mongered but this is different) They are all in, they know he has a built in audience and they are now embracing them.

Trump will be the candidate...lets hope the Dems take note.

I gave Calgary Ted my 25 bucks long before the Trump phenomenon took off. I can't explain Trump nor can I say I predicted this. Cruz is running the best campaign of all the others. He's raising big bucks, he's not relying on the media to prop him up (unlike Rubio, Kasich, Fiorina, etc), and he's the natural heir to both Carson and Trump's voters if they flame out. Problem is Trump isn't flaming out and his ability to drive the conversation is unprecedented for a non-incumbent running for President.

Trump "drives" the conversation in the sense that he's in the left front seat of a fully-loaded logging truck with both hands on the wheel, and the derp pedal all the way down to the floor. If he doesn't like you, prepare to get flattened.

Not agreeing with the man's methods, but even the lamestream media and pundidiotry will be forced to admit that he speaks for a majority of conservatives. His plan to eliminate terrorists and their families - met with stunned derision by the press, but an electoral winner with the base.

I see you've been to Oregon.

The amazing thing about Trump is he probably hasn't spent a dime of his own money yet, and yet he gets ALL the free press, ALL the time. He may be the first person to ever run for president and turn a profit.

Occasionally I've thought his plan is simply to go into the convention with a majority and the night before it starts conference call the Koch brothers with an internal poll showing he will lose by 20 points to Hillary and say, "give me $1B and I will withdraw and endorse the candidate of your choice."

My slim remaining hope for the planet is that this is true. When the people are all alone in that booth and ready to pull the figurative lever, they won't really vote for "The Donald", will they? ...will they?

It's not just Oregon. I crossed US-41 to go to class every morning and afternoon, and those fvckers sped up when they saw students in the crosswalk ahead of them.

I dated a woman in OR who had had one member of three successive generations killed in separate logging truck accidents (one as a driver, the other two as hit motorists).

I have driven at rush hour in midtown Manhattan and in a white out in the North Country, and the one time I thought I was going to die was driving into Florence, OR at 1 am with logging trucks passing me. Freaking terrifying.
