How could a Conservative candidate say jack squat about the economy with a straight face? If I'm Hillary I'm praying they try to win this election talking about the economy.

I think those in the media are rightly scared of what Trump could mean for this country if he were elected. It's not likely to happen, but still the thought scares people who give it more than a glancing notice.

I imagine if Trump were elected McConnell, Ryan and Roberts would have themselves a little informal talk about how things were going to go down for the next four years.

They won't be able to control him. The last 3 GOP Presidents expanded Executive Branch power so much that even Obama has gotten drunk over it.

I don't agree. The main reason for the growth of the Imperial Presidency has been Congressional dereliction of duty. Congress has been more than willing to shunt off its responsibilities to the executive branch. A president with no party machine to back him would be impotent. The Dems would oppose everything so the GOP would be a semi-permeable membrane that let through the usual things that stuff its donors' pockets and stopped everything else.

I would expect if Trump gets elected that everyone in leadership in Congress for the Republicans will be Tea Party approved. By a long mile. They'll keep the House for sure. That will give him enough cover to do whatever the hell he wants.

I too don't share Kep's certainly that "reasonable Republicans" would step up and block Trump's agenda. If anything they'd be shoving each other to get on board the crazy train. Someday, older mainstream voters will realize there are very few moderate Goopers left in Congress, and Howard Baker, Bob Dole, Bob Michel, etc aren't walking through that door. The sooner people wake up to that fact, especially those on the left, the better off we're all going to be.

Except now they would have total power...with Trump they could do anything they wish. They will embrace it...they will have to their supporters voted him in.

The Obama administration is deliberately sending Syrian refugees to states led by Republican governors, Donald Trump alleged Tuesday.

Trump, who was speaking to conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, said of the refugees, “They send them to the Republicans, not to the Democrats, you know because they know the problem … why would we want to bother the Democrats?”

That may be. I am in no way suggesting a GOP sweep wouldn't be a living hell. Just that it would be the usual cynical Republican oligarch hell, not some new alien monster Trump hell.

What's disheartening is we NEVER LEARN. We repeat the same historical mistakes over and over and over and over again.

Americans are monkeys just like everybody else -- when we're scared we throw our feces.

Once the danger is past we'll repeal and apologize, and scholars will write about how America went through a neo-fascist period after 2001.
