Noted.

To review, in response to a post critical of a sometimes-liberal pundit you built entire amusement park of defensiveness and personal attacks. Physician, heal thyself.

Your post was critical of Matthews ('a sometimes liberal?' Really, Kepler? Really?), while at the same time, offering up the statement that "Everybody dismisses him". Simply untrue. The dude wouldn't be on TV if that were the case. Lots of your fellow left-leaners love that guy.

This isn't really that difficult of a concept, and I know you know **** well what I was saying. You're just trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, but it's really one of your more lame attempts at doing so.

And where was I defensive? And where, exactly, was my post full of personal attacks? That's a bold claim. Please back it up.

Bernie got a Snapchat. Though that's probably irrelevant for some of you.

Isn't that the thing people thought they could send dick pics on safely but then it turned out that was a lie?

All I'm saying is I don't want to see Bernie's dick pics.

Interesting interview with Charles Koch. Especially the parts where he talks about how the media had assigned various candidates as he and his brother's candidates.

He is nothing if not crafty and shrewd when it comes to parrying with a reporter. When I asked him about Donald Trump he responded: “I’m against politics.” I asked him again about Trump. “I’ve learned we can’t say anything about an individual politician because David, my brother, said he liked Walker, so now I started reading in the press that we put millions behind his campaign,” Koch said. “You want to know how much we put behind his campaign? Zero. Then, we said OK, we’ll invite Fiorina to the seminar. OK, now [people said] we’ve selected her. We hadn’t selected her. It’s just she was doing well in the polls and said some things that made sense and so on. So I can’t, I don’t dare comment about anybody because it’ll be blown totally out of proportion.”

But what does it mean when candidates like Bernie Sanders and Trump pick up traction, I ask? “It says Americans are very dissatisfied with the current direction and what we hope to present is a third way, not socialism or not a strong man running the [country], both of them telling people how to live their lives. What we’re for is a system where people can run their own lives and the government just sets the basic rules, but through the rule of law with everybody treated equally under the law,” Koch responded.

The reporter's pairing of Sanders and Trump in that question is a hilarious example of framing the debate.

I figured he just wanted to take the candidate from each party with the most extreme views, and try to make that same old, and tired, divisive nature of politics argument. On one hand, you have a guy like Bernie who appears to be overly permissive in what he wants to allow people to do, and then there's Trump with his neo-Soviet strongman routine.

"What we're for is a complete laissez faire system where we can screw 90% of Americans, while having basic laws that protect us. But it'll be OK, because they'll all have the opportunity to be screwed equally!"

Fixed. ;)

Except there's a difference between extreme and insane--and the difference isn't merely a matter of degree. Extreme in this context would tend to mean that a particular candidate's views deviate pretty far from the country's current political center. That's not Trump--his views are insane...which, to me, means his views aren't based on rational thought, but on whatever happens to be bubbling up from his diseased subconscious at that particular moment.

Oh, I know what he was doing. But the correct pairing for Sanders is Rand Paul -- they are politicians equally distant from the ordinary center of their party.

The correct pairing for Trump is this guy.

As Anatole France said,

In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread.

You view him as being irrational because he disagrees with what you believe. He's being very rational when you look at how he's motivating a goodly portion of the Republican base. Rightly or wrongly, he's tapped into something primal with those people. His actions have given him a sizeable chunk of that voting bloc, which tells me that he's acting quite rational. It's just rational and abhorrent all at the same time, because he's either playing a despicable part in an act or they believe what he believes and he knows it's relatively safe for him to say it.

Using Rand Paul doesn't make any sense at all because he's not a viable candidate at this point in the process. He's polling in the single digits, they're likely negative digits at that. Meanwhile, Trump and Sanders are both #2 for their parties. It makes for a truer comparison in terms of where their parties are in thought.

That just isn't true. I disagree with most of what Ted Cruz says, but I certainly wouldn't say his views aren't based on rational thought.

I agree his strategy to stay with what's working is quite rational. It's worked for him so far to let his views be based on whatever happens to be bubbling up from his diseased subconscious at that particular moment.

And I don't think most of it's from that quick percolation. He's planning this stuff out, making sure he has the most ostentatious, absurd answers ready that will get him in the papers, upset the people he wants to anger, and still keep him within tolerable limits of those who cheer him on, and perhaps those at the margins, too. While he's not nearly as brilliant as he'd like to think, he has become a relatively shrewd campaigner.
