You may be right, but I have a hard time buying in completely when I see him do his belt buckle routine and when he specifically calls Iowa voters stupid. If, after the next Iowa poll, he hasn't taken a good hit from that, I'll probably have to give him a bit more credit.

I think Trump's "you're stupid" shtick might work. Most of right-wing resentment radio is based on the principle that the host and the listener are in a special, privileged club of people who "get it" and "aren't fooled by the propaganda." So when Trump says "aren't Iowa voters stupid?" his supporters hear "you're smart -- you can see through the nonsense. It's everybody who disagrees with you that's stupid." It's a victimization dog whistle. O'Reilly uses the same act.

Trump's approach (and the conservative Echo Chamber in general) is based on the Dunning–Kruger effect. Dumb people don't know they're dumb, so you can blast out a generalized "these people are so dumb!" and each listener assumes he's the smart one and everybody else is dumb. You pander to everyone directly to the extent that they lack self-awareness. That is genius politicking.

That doesn’t sound very tough to me.”

So, righty posters (joecct, Bob Gray, Fishy, etc) who of these pack of idiots running for the GOP nomination do you think can handle a crisis like ISIL, and what gives you that confidence?

You kill the disease by prevention. Massive drugs after the fact may cure the current cases, but the underlying causes remain.

We may be in the massive drug stage with ISIS/L.

But I must ask, which of the current crop of Democratic nominees can cure the problem, and why?

But isn't the issue the economy, stupid? And there we greatly differ. I do not believe governments duty is to be a job creator. You do.

Hillary, because she's been there before. Reaction of your garden variety knuckledragger is to launch a ground war. Mind you, during the last ground war allies still got hit by terrorist attacks. No matter though as every single candidate in the GOP field not named Rand Paul wants another war. A far, far better approach is the slow, un- s e x y, steady destruction of ISIS much like what happened to AQ, which is a shell of its former self.

Regarding the economy, you seem to be stuck in the 70's. The gubmint needs to do a balancing act with the economy. That means knowing when to step in and when to step out. The philosophy of the GOP, hatched by a President we now know was extremely senile while in office, is to let private enterprise do whatever they please, and when they start offshoring all jobs we're supposed to say "oh well". That economic theory is for dinosaurs, and needs to go the same way. Ever check how much better the economy does when a Democrat is in the White House as opposed to a Republican?

What's the Democrats got to do with it? There isn't one ****ing clown in the GOP who can take care of this problem either.

We're doing plenty. That's why we have the enormous intelligence/surveillance infrastructure that we've built since 9/11.

Hillary's the only candidate in either field with remotely the competence to do handle the situation (insofar as any president can), and even she would be tempted to indulge in the kind of chest-thumping argle bargle that makes knucks hyperventilate. At least she would involve the State Department.

Attacks like this always give the far right a short term boost. Marine Le Pen is reaping that sort of benefit right now, and no doubt the GOP's brownshirt wing will try to exploit this for their political advantage. It's times like this when America is tested to live up to our ideals. Let's be exceptional in a way that matters and find solutions that (1) don't also sacrifice our values and (2) you know, actually work. The chicken hawks will always pound every situation into their narrative because it's all they have. We can do better.

If you think that's bad look at what Daily Kos went to over the weekend. I used to visit it daily. Now it's unreadable and I've given it up.

The nudniks and their smart (sic) phones have taken over the world, and so the world has to be served up to them in infantile-processed, bite-sized pictures.

It's the newspaper in F451. There are no books so news is told in cartoons.

For the record, "mobile-friendly" websites are the absolute worst and people that push for them should be fired out of a cannon into the sun. They are quickly making websites unreadable, and in some cases, actually painful to read.
