I'm creating a religion with a spaghetti monster for a supreme being and our holy days falling on a Tuesday. Think they'll move it? :D

I'm waving my noodly appendage 'no.'

Very good article. And the central point can't be repeated too often: anything that makes David Brooks clutch his pearls is by definition good for the country as a whole. His type of Beltway pundit has been sucking at the teat of the lobbyist-Congressman-corporate interest group for so long they've completely lost sight of the obscenity of that system, and now they'll do anything to defend their lifelong meal ticket. The real welfare queens are the political pundit class and their media repeaters.

Oookaaayyyy... Maybe Jebbers DOES have a shot at the fundie vote after all, based on a book he wrote back in 1995...

"In a chapter called "The Restoration of Shame,” the likely 2016 presidential candidate made the case that restoring the art of public humiliation could help prevent pregnancies “out of wedlock.”

"One of the reasons more young women are giving birth out of wedlock and more young men are walking away from their paternal obligations is that there is no longer a stigma attached to this behavior, no reason to feel shame. Many of these young women and young men look around and see their friends engaged in the same irresponsible conduct. Their parents and neighbors have become ineffective at attaching some sense of ridicule to this behavior. There was a time when neighbors and communities would frown on out of wedlock births and when public condemnation was enough of a stimulus for one to be careful."

Yeah. Public shaming for out of wedlock births. I'm just curious if Bush never got laid before his wedding night, because if he did that would make him a bit of a hypocrite, no?

I'll just say this. Some of the shiat I did and said 20 years ago would not be kosher by today's standards, and I wouldn't necessarily want it held against me today or think it deserves to be held against me.

There's more recent stuff to go after Jeb with. No use digging up ancient garbage.

While your point's taken, that quote from Jeb could be taken from the current GOP platform. Sex outside of marriage is promiscuity, and God sends tornadoes to punish us for it.

Still, I'm sure Jeb has said things just as stupid far more recently. In playing to the base on the campaign trail he'll be saying idiotic things daily.

That depends on if its still his attitude. He owns it, unless he now comes forth and says he's mistaken. This absolutely needs to be in the public realm. Now if you want to dismiss it, that's your right. But, as Kep astutely points out, this attitude is not out of the mainstream for modern day conservatism.

Dear Jehovah / Allah / Yahweh / Satan / Horus / Anu / Zeus / Jupiter / whoever,

I know we don't talk regularly, but I would be willing to offer a burnt offering or two if you would pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease make this happen.

Thanks, and God bless
He'd certainly ramp up the entertainment value for a little while before fading away like he always does. Not sure why this possibility makes you quite that excited.

Trump is the quintessential modern Republican. White, male, rich, old, crazy, hypocritical, utterly without self-awareness, and STILL managing to make money off the right wing base. You guys need him as your standard-bearer.

The more crazies you can get in the race, the more sane the establishment candidates appear.

Take out the male part, I think anyway, and you just described Hilary

Infowars is claiming Hillary is getting the nod from Bilderberg for 2016. We'll see...

Hillary is not crazy. The Terminator T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 does not support that function.

Alex Jones should have gone with Ben Carson. If he won, it would have exonerated everything they ever said.

You're missing the point. We're not talking about his endorsement, but rather the Nazis' endorsement (the founders of the Bilderberg conference were Nazi sympathizers; it has been back door allowed for over 60 years).

Then why do so few Republicans like or support Trump? Not one of your better partisan jabs.

Probably for the same reason that a young, middle class, educated woman of color isn't leading the Democratic polling. Being representative doesn't ensure you a following in politics.

You mean the party whose relatively young educated (not sure about middle class) man of color sits in the White House? There's some truth in what you say, but not as much as you make it sound like.
