Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

Looks like the Marijuana, Senate, and Governor races are all gonna be close. Definitely not getting decided tonight.
Nevermind, I'm done on the Senate race. Begich has been trailing the whole time. Barring a miracle my State is gonna be part of this disaster.

MJ looking like it's going to squeak out a victory.

Parnell/Walker is going to go into tomorrow morning easy.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

I thought once Cutler essentially gave up in Maines Gov race, I figured Michaud would win by a small margin but he wasn't even close. If Cutler hadn't conceded a week ago I doubt Michaud gets 40% of the votes. Michaud outspent Lepage by quite a bit last time I saw figures.

The most disgusting ad campaign(for local race) that I've ever seen or heard was in Bangor, Gratwick vs Weston. I can't believe the money spent from outside sources trashing Cary Weston.

MD will have a Republican governor. Now that's pretty funny. My district (MD-06) being 50/50 isn't so funny though it looks like Delaney is going to squeeze past the post.

The NRSC really got it done. To their credit, they froze out the crazies. And they didn't just win on home turf, they also took basically every borderline case.

And liberal ballot measures won in most places, so it wasn't just turnout.

Hillary fans take note: when we run away from our basic liberal values, we lose.

Minnesota saw huge wins for Dayton and Franken. Dems retain their seats in the US House but Republicans took control of the state legislature. Very weird.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

The highlight of my night was that the Green Party in NYS kept it's ballot status and over took the Working Family Party for row D on the ballots for the next 4 years. It's sounds stupid but it is a semi-big deal. Ballot status is huge in that candidates for office don't have to petition to be on the ballot they just have to obtain the nomination of the party. Also the higher the candidate is on the ballot the more likey they are to get votes.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

I think the results show that at least *some* voters are actually voting for candidates who they think can do the job or at least are the least objectionable. Maybe is shows that voters are blindly supporting candidates based upon the letter after their name. If true, that would be a good thing.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

I'll take a minority view here and suggest that the Senate election results were less a "repudiation" of Obama, and far more a rejection of Harry Reid.

Shelley Moore Capito summed it up best: "The Senate was once known as 'the world's greatest deliberative body.' It's time for the Senate to start deliberating again."

Reid's idea to "protect" Democrats from difficult votes also made it impossible for them to point to anything they accomplished during their term in office. Begich in AK did not have a single bill nor even a single amendment brought to a floor vote during his six-year term. What good is it to have a D Senator if the Senate in D control never does anything at all?

Hey, Wisconsin, ***? #dolts

I put this in the Total Recalk thread, but I'll paraphrase here:

Scott Walker is complete scum, but the party line idealist conservatives in this state eat that rhetorical **** up.

It's a shock that we would willingly re-elect this scum until you see the line of idiots the Wisconsin Dems think are able to hold office despite not having the ability to balance a checkbook.

To me, the most surprising part is to see how few people voted third party. There is nothing that either party can't get away with, because this state of moronic voters will continue to be diametrically and **** near exclusively in the corner of the worst that our two parties have to offer. We could run [USCHO's worst idiot liberal poster] against [USCHO's worst scumbag conservative poster] on the Dem and Rep tickets and they'd still get 98% of the vote.

Wisconsin elections depress me.

Spending

People want to be left the frock alone and they want THEIR money.

Always been that way

I think mookie came closer than anyone on the news in explaining these results. It's the closest people can come in the vote to saying, "shut up and get out of my life." Which would also indicate a White House landslide for (D) in 2016, else these quasi libertarian ideals would be in the trash even more than ever. I don't think this congress is a victory for conservatism at all. For the GOP, sure, but that means nothing.

Personally, I've never liked Weston - he always seemed like a slime ball to me.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

Scott Walker, the anti-labor anti-middle class screw everyone but the rich guy won.
Joni Ernst the 2nd Amendment Remedy gal won.
Cory Gardner the Personhood Amendment to the Constitution now guy won.
Sam Brownback the super smart economic genius I just destroyed my State's Economy, can't pay the bills, and we have a crappy credit rating guy won.

And most of all the guy in the White House that seems to have mostly gotten there entirely on looks is going to go down in history as the most ineffective Executive ever elected. He used his mandate and majority entirely on a Rebublican 27 car train wreck of a Health Care legislation that has no hope of providing Health Care.

When Hillary gets nominated in 2016 and loses again the circle will be complete.

Scooby, who did the Dems run against these guys?

Kepler is right, the Dems arent running on their values, they are running on rhetoric and how they are "just better" or not as evil. That doesnt win elections.

I will say this though, if they want to win the WH in 2016 they best not run Hillary. She will divide the party. They need someone better or she will be the Mittens of this election. (barring the GOP running some idiot like Palin or Ryan)

Well, I find the election weirder than just who ran. Kay Hagan is a great candidate and she lost in North Carolina. A state that had turned completely purple and looked like a state I might even like to live in. Now? No way in hell.

The Republicans ran on anti-Obama and they won, handily. What I find hilarious about that is Obama hasn't really been allowed to do anything for 6 years. Nothing really has happened. He didn't change the Supreme Court, it stayed the same. No immigration reform. The insurance companies won on Health Care. He continued the Neo Con war machine. Hell he's to the Right of Bush on most things.

There wasn't a single thing he did for liberals in 6 years in office and two overwhelming wins to take him to the White House.

And last night because he did nothing (Bone Man and McConnell effectively blocked almost everything) he got voted out of office.

This really was a Bone Man and McConnell victory of the highest order. Heck McConnell's race was the first one called last night.

There was a woman (NY assembly woman I think) on Progressive Radio who was saying that that the Green Party in NY was a Cuomo prop to force the Working Families Party off the ballot. I know nothing about the merits either way.

We've got a tight one in district 2 for the U.S. House in AZ, with 36 votes separating Martha McSally and Ron Barber. Barber is the incumbent Dem and was Gabbie Giffords assistant when she was shot. The district is in SE AZ and still has a good chunk of precincts that haven't reported.
