Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

So an interesting twist to the property damage at Tesla dealerships, and another reason to not govern by shitposting:

Elon Musk: "Vandalism against Tesla is terrorism."
Pam Bondi: "We're going to prosecute those who vandalize Tesla as terrorists."
Donald Trump: "I'm going to make an Executive Order declaring any vandalism against a Tesla dealerships an act of Terrorrism."

Insurance companies: *points to part of contract where it says they don't cover acts of terrorism or war, and never have*

You gotta love the Dildo of Consequences!

He'll just sign another executive order saying it has to be covered. And everyone will cave.
There is no chance insurance companies will pay out...even if Trump says they have to. They dont pay out when they are publicly shamed they aren't going to do it over this.

It's sort of a check and balance. Government failure, so the private sector actually kicks in.

Maybe the Republicans will just bail out Tesla if it goes under?

No they will bail out Musk...they might "buy" a bunch of Teslas to prop them up but only insomuch as Musk can save face but long term they will let them die. I mean they are actively killing electric cars anyways.

At a more micro level, my brother-in-law owns a bar, one that does pretty good business. St. Patrick’s day was a real let down this year. People are being impacted by the chaos POTUS ^ and Co are creating.

Even if you gamble, it's practically not worth going unless you pay $150+/head to eat at 5-star restaurants every night, and that gets old quick. On the rare occasion when I feel like it, I can gamble in a Detroit casino for a fraction of a trip to Vegas. The house odds at the blackjack tables here might even be a little better than one of the luxe Vegas joints that cleans out high rollers every weekend.

Of course there is the option of going off Strip to some of the better ethnic restaurants, which aren't quite as heavily marked up, but then you have the added expense of the rideshare.

I spent the money on a giant suite at Venetian once. Checked that experience off the list, don't need to do it again.

The biggest fucking ripoff of all though, which started in Vegas and has since spread like herpes to other major vacation markets, is the "nightly resort fee" horseshit where they pretend to unbundle long-distance calling, pool towels, in-room movies, etc. then force you to pay for it as an additional amenity. I blame corporate greed and the proliferation of rewards credit cards and points manufacturing for this nonsense, because when you make a points booking they still get you at check-in for the "resort fees" in cash.

Ha, you’ve reminded me of another reason I haven’t gone back. I still have ptsd from being there opening week of a new hotel (and staying at said hotel). A suicide, sexual assault, and a sliding door falling off and breaking my friends foot…it was quite the weekend

What stage of capitalism is it where you can "buy now - pay later" for your burrito taxi?

Good lord, do not mention this to my barely functioning BIL. We finally convinced him last year that he doesn't have the money to pay for delivery.

I am in Vegas right now for a concert...there is very little I do on the strip (Bobby Flay Restaurant, Cigar Bar at Caesars) but otherwise I always eat off the strip. Two of the best Thai places i have ever eaten at are there and a great Sushi spot as well. Personally I walk but the Uber ride is cheap as hell if you can't.

That said Vegas went from a nice easy getaway for me to "I need a reason to go" now because the casinos are ridiculous (not that i gamble much) and the people here are not nearly as fun as they used to be. It's like going to a local casino only more expensive and on exponentially more crowded.
