Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

It wasn't "normal" she friggin treated herself because she wanted a little joy. Sometimes it is worth a little bit of financial strain for a little mental health peace of mind. (she has been unemployed for quite a while if you have been paying attention)

Sorry but you are way off base here and more than a little judgmental.

TBF, I think this is a case where you're both right and wrong.

Like $800 is a lot of money to be spending on one shot for an upgrade for most people and you guys are being a bit flippant about business class travel and international travel in general.

But, yeah it's ok to treat oneself and he shouldn't be a bit judgmental on how people spend their money.

$800 is usually equal to or more than the budget for an entire round trip...

The fact that this is "normal" for people around here says a lot about what I've been saying about the income disparity here on USCHO vs the rest of the world.
I’m unemployed, not normal for me. I hadn’t paid at all for my original ticket to Europe- most of my trip was on points- so for me, that was a great deal given that I’d paid zero

I don’t take what race said as insult at all. I’m nearly a million miler and have flown a ton and forgot to mention how I hadn’t paid for the trip. I figured I normally pay 900-1200 to get to Europe, so $800 for lie flat seemed like a nice treat

I’ve been harping on how bad the job market is for over and year and have been mostly ignored because of the reports- but those weren’t capturing the white collar bleeding with so many roles offshored or automated. And now with the feds laying of thousands it’s about o get so much worse

On the flip side, I care so much less

At my work I was called crazy the other day because I talked about the possibility of layoffs at our station, “something like that would never happen!” People really have their heads buried in the sand.

I am not being flippant, I know I am extremely lucky to be able to travel as much as I do. I work two jobs to do it mind you, but that is why I work two jobs. I grew up poor I take nothing for granted.

How the fuck are the markets back up today?
Buying the dip is part of it...plus a lot of billionaire's are happy because Trump basically fellated them and will continue to, He made no promises (from what I read) to protect entitlements or health insurance and regulation is going away. Plus the trade war is going to allow for billions in price gouging and crypto is being pumped...

The market wont always be down because there will always be people willing to prop it up to keep their interests afloat. Its a lot of BS trying to gaslight everyone that things are good. Its going to be like this for a while...a day or two of positive completely offset by 3 days of decline. Until the big one comes...

edit: just wait until Veterans Affairs cuts 80k jobs!

Automakers get 1 month exemption from tariffs. But remember, this policy is well thought out!
Because they kissed his butt and told him that the tariffs will kill American Auto. He backed line the chicken chickenchit he is.

I think we're all pretty aware that a college hockey message board isn't a good representative sample of the average American "at large". Starting with the fact that something like ~70% of the national workforce doesn't have a 4-year degree. Not to mention that of the 63 schools playing NCAA D1 hockey, many are elite research schools whose graduates tend to have greater opportunities to pursue highly paid career paths.

My personal trainer's wife was fired today. No official letter, they just told her and walked her out.

Her department was built around her. She took a 50% pay cut to come to the govt from the private sector and work at an office providing physical therapy to people returning to the workforce.

Her boss told her the firing was utterly unjustified and after this BS is over they will reschedule the job as contractor and she can come back in at her normal salary.

That is how DOGE is "cutting" costs. Savings pennies to spend dollars.

You'll be too late by then if you wait till they actually kill the FDIC. The run would be instantaneous, and to get at the money, you would have to do it in person. Because if you did it online, where would you move the money too? I suppose if you had a foreign bank account already setup, you could do it, but the bank websites would probably be overloaded. And I suspect in minutes, the banks would collapse. I forget the exact figure, but the percentage of money the banks have (and if I remember my regulations, there is a minimum they must have) readily available to the amount they actually have (i.e,, cash vs. what they loaned out) is very small. It won't take much of a run on banks to deplete that cash.
Maybe, maybe not. 90% of the country has no understanding of the FDIC and why it's important.

Lutsenk or whatever his name is put out word that Canada and Mexico had been calling him all day the day before about reaching some consensus, and maybe the tariffs would be ended after just a couple days. And of course the rubes bought it.

Or, just the billionaires sweeping up more market share while it's down.
