Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

They already started.

Starbucks announced its largest layoff in history.

Trucking is next, the largest employer in America, will feel the effects from trade shutdown. The difference is you don't lay them off, they just don't get contracts.
Think how bad it will be when we start bringing home military from overseas. They will have to cut half of them there is not enough room for them all, the VA is a disaster and there are no jobs. Homelessness is going to skyrocketing in military towns.

I have a feeling that Musk is going to be the fall guy for all of this. Dump and cronies get their depression to gather more wealth, the MAGA proles start to get violent, Dump blames it all on Musk, arrests Musk and tries him for "treason", Musk goes to the wall to satisfy MAGA's bloodlust and Dump gets to parade as a "hero" to MAGA for "saving the economy" by killing the guy "responsible".
Musk will be the fall guy but I don't think it will work. He can buy and sell the GOP and not even break a sweat. He alone could tank the economy if he ever felt threatened. Honestly I think Trump fears him and MAGAts will blame them until he uses his money to change their opinions. He will buy commercials on every network blaming Trump and the droplets like Jeb (not his mom...she is classy and swallows it all) will get gaslit.

Musk will die but drugs will do it.

Musk? I barely knew the guy. Had no idea all the things he was doing.

But we're gonna fix that(keeps on keeping on)

Think about some of the other knock on effects. Education budgets are being slashed, meaning teachers and paraprofessionals and maintenance workers etc. are all being fired.

You know what demographic has a high percentage of government employees? Military spouses.

Turns out that having to quit and move at the drop of a hat isn’t great for building a career so military spouses are encouraged to take government jobs around the bases. Guess what jobs are being axed by DOGE?

Isn't all of Elmo's value in the value of the stocks he owns? Or a gross majority of it?

So the target should be X, Tesla, and SpaceX, right?

No that is not all of Elmo's value, it is a large portion of it though. (his family has a lot of money...not billions bt he will never have to worry) And nothing we do will screw with the stock price because he has been cooking the books for years and makes it work with Government Welfare. If not for a stroke of luck he would have already got a $400 million payout for Tesla alone (to basically buy out the Cybertruck debacle and repay the money he gave Trump) and since it appears SpaceX is going to make everything for NASA now...well we are literally nothing. (X is already basically bankrupt he admitted it and I believe the Saudis are going to be screwed by that one) As long as he and Trump are on good enough standing that the Government throws money at him anything we do is like stealing pennies from counter.

These people are untouchable...people think canceling WaPo makes a difference but Bezos could let it die and not even break a sweat.

Yep. (keeping this in the best light) Once again these people who want government cut have zero idea how the government works or affects their lives. They dont even have a basic understanding about how day to day life functions...they just think that the Government gets in the way of them having full access to everything...without realizing that the Government is the reason that access exists. Think about some of the things said during the California Fires...that is how these people perceive the world. The sum total of their experience with the world is what is right in front of their face and they have no idea what the Law of Unintended Consequences is until the dildo is already halfway in and the lube never came. Like the GOP Women who seem shocked they lost their voice in the Party (see also: Log Cabin Republicans) or the Vets who don't realize when they say "Yes I am A Veteran" they are, by definition, a DEI hire. As with most humans, they are so selfish they believe that what they have is earned, and what everyone else has is not. Mine is good, yours is bad! Its like they took the old adage "my Congressperson is great but everyone else's sucks!" and applied it writ large.

My SO has a good friend who works at the Army Corp of Engineers and boy are they freaking out. They havent been cut (yet) but they also are under a self imposed hiring freeze because they dont want any probationary workers which will then likely lead to cuts. It sounds like the entire thing has gone very toxic and of course, some of them voted for this and everyone knows it.

Don't forget that they keep people alive and healthy, as well. From the EPA keeping water drinkable and air breathable to direct healthcare support.

And laws are there because companies have never, in the history of the world, been able to "do the right thing" as an industry. Ever. Once one company cheats to make more money, then the rest have to do the same thing, or let a monopoly happen. Which has happened within the history of the US.

Lastly, all of the laws mean jobs. Hundreds of engineers were at the company I worked for to meet EPA rules. Add the supporting companies, their engineers, and all of the supporting technicians. And there are over 10 massive companies that all compete within the US doing the same thing. Reality is the exact opposite of what they are being sold.

I mean...not a great look.
Keep in mind that Reid's ratings were on par with the 11 PM slot. She got 150k less than Hayes who immediately followed her and like 90k less than Melber who immediatley preceded her.

Plus they're replacing her with Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. A number of the other people who have "lost" their shows are simply getting moved to different slots. The only questionable move for me is promoting Psaki, whose show has middling ratings despite a primetime slot. And Psaki is basically going to replace Maddow when she goes back to special feature shows from what I understand.

Joy Reid was just not a compelling host. Symone was fantastic during the elections coverage and offered significantly more insightful analysis and discussion than pretty much all of the other anchors save for maybe Maddow and Hayes.

So I don't think this is the racially-motivated mass firing people are making it out to be.

Really because for the most part all of their ratings sucked outside of Maddow and I think O'Donnell. MSNBC is watched on par with Gopher Hockey if I read right that is why Comcast is selling them for scrap.

Even if we take the firings at face value (hah its Comcast!) they could have fired any number of people who stink and no one watches. (including Jen Psaki and Michael Steele who can barely talk on camera) No one watches any of the shows and there are plenty of people who make way too much money for a failing network. (**cough**Morning Joe**cough**)

The real problem is, this is supposed to be the home of Progressives and the majority of their on air talent are at best Centrists (or flat out Republicans) and they look the part. Touting Michael Steele for diversity is rather ironic since he was head of the Republican Party. Alicia Mendez is nothing special (her show is not exactly a ratings bonanza) and Symone Sanders is...well I think she made her bones as VP Harris' staff. (may be wrong) Hell even Maddow is not exactly a foaming at the mouth liberal these days. Reid was really the only true Progressive on the network. This stinks of trying to make MSNBC look less crazy for potential buyers.

Kinda hard to believe that bullsh** when the new news director that was hired a year ago or so was found out to be pretty right leaning.

You nailed it though, it's moderate / Diet Republican views sold as the "liberal" view. Every attempt to be the "FOX News of Democrats," was just a half-assed attempt at best to make the Libs like them.

Honestly, MSNBC could save the money and just air Khaby Lame (from TikTok) making these hand motions at a simulcast of FOX News and it would still get the same ratings as current MSNBC talent do.

Isn't government spending something like 20% of GDP?

You’re about 14% shy on that figure. And that’s just the federal budget.

These numbers are through 2023:
