Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Target's shareholders lost $15 billion of net worth in their holdings of Target common stock when Target announced they were dropping DEI initiatives.
Economics classes are going to study Target's stupidity in the future.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that is a far larger drop, if any, than they potentially had after the "go woke, go broke" nonsense.
Absolutely. And it isn't just stock value...the parking lots are half as full around here and I am literally in the Land of Target.

Target’s lot is as full as normal in WSP, roughly the same as Walmart’s. Cub does well enough to stay in business around here, but I’m kind of shocked when I see their prices.

Yeah, the Targets we go to are almost always busy. Especially the two in Woodbury, good lord.

We've stopped shopping at Hy-Vee entirely because of insane prices and they're always out of stuff. Cub is more expensive than Target on 80% of stuff but they have a better selection for most things unless you go to Super Targets. And even then, it's... hit or miss. If we need produce, it comes from Cub. You just can't beat their quality.

Our Hyvee is cheaper than Cub...and they post the prices to prove it which makes me laugh. Cub over here has lost the script on produce and meat.

Target was cheaper cause they are/were non-union.

Plymouth Target is usually packed on weekends...hasn't been in weeks. I worked at that Target and have been going there for decades so it is easy to see the dropoff. We will see how long it lasts but most of the burbs around here are so LGBTQ+ supportive (and liberal in general) it's not surprising.

Yup. An already horrific job market for white collar is about to get obliterated .

Per Jesse rothstein

“It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.”

There is no doubt...and if Europe does the tariffs they are threatening its going to get U-G-L-Y!

I'm pretty sure it's also a terrible economy for blue collar.

I wonder if anyone other than Dump and Musk is benefitting. There is something aesthetically pleasing about the scale of the heist.

Peter Thiel, Mark Andreesen, Zuck, Bezos...a few other billionaires. The German guy who owns Politico as well and Adelsons wife...

Yum Brands exits Kentucky; will split HQ between Tex-ass (Kentucky Fried Hormones, P'Hut) and Commie California (Taco Hell). Will also require remote workers to relocate.

This move comes just 5 years after Papa John's uprooted from Louisville and fled to Georgia. Bigger red states poaching from smaller, redder states.

To combat some of this I guess China is making some things in Vietnam so they can get around tariffs but still this is not great.
