Removing buttons and knobs? Ick.

I can’t wait til this trend gets old

if we can’t drive while looking at phones, quit putting goddamn iPads in the console

THIS!!!

If there's one trend that needs to die a swift death it's the replacement of physical HVAC and radio controls with the touchscreen integration. It all started because of Tesla, and I'm hoping Musk being batsh*t insane helps fast track the end of it.

When I'm driving, a quick glance to the controls and I can see what I need to adjust and then I can look back at the road while adjusting the buttons/knobs.

Instead, these options are on a touch screen where there isn't (or maybe there is) haptic feedback to let you know you even did anything when tapping the screen.

Also, touch screens are, like anyone who has had a laptop, iPad, tablet, etc. can attest to, have issues where inputs aren't accepted or are slightly misaligned. Or times where the touchscreen is unresponsive for no reason (glares at Chevrolet MyLink), or won't even turn on (stares at Dodge Ram engineers who grounded the infotainment system to the lighting so if a bulb goes out the entire cluster doesn't work).

The whole "phone down, distracted driving kills," campaign makes me laugh my ass off. I can't fiddle with my cellphone at a red light or I risk a ticket, but scrolling through 300 channels on my aftermarket XM radio without looking at the tollway while I go 80 MPH down it is A-OK.

My wife is about to get burned for this real soon, I'm just waiting for the day. I texted her last night and added, "Don't text back if you're already on your way home" because I knew otherwise she would respond.

So for those of you who are working in manufacturing- why can't the cheap labor in Central America be utilized??? Shipping costs will be considerably lower, the situation may stabilize thanks to an influx of jobs, and that will deal with a large part of the immigration issues.

Let alone, we are not sending money to former communist enemies.

I would guess too much societal instability? Rampant crime, cartels and such.

Well, by now, I've pretty much converted to the steering wheel controls. The one knob left is the one that we would use- volume control. For the most part, the temp control is totally automatic, so there's little to mess with there.

But it's still super annoying that buttons and features are removed and prices still go up. And somehow, the people who actually put them together were not really sharing in the wealth.

Why do you hate America?

4.9% GDP growth last quarter.

But Drew tells me the economy sucks under Biden.

Weird...cause all we keep hearing is every business is running out of money which is why they can't pay their union labor.

So everyone has jobs, the economy is growing, businesses are making bank (I believe I even read the value of the dollar is on the rise) and yet...inflation is everywhere and prices are sky high. Hmmm...I wonder why that could be.

Almost all touchscreens in almost all contexts are inferior to physical controls. It was a noble idea but in practice it stinks.

OTOH, voice-activated controls are amazing when they work right. I haven't used my phone keyboard in years.

This is going to be the hurdle on the '24 campaign trail.

How can the Dems educate the masses in the fact that the squeeze is coming almost purely from corporate greed?

Like I posted about within the last couple of weeks, I couldn't imagine that corporations (as a whole) can influence the overall economy that much. It just doesn't register. And its an issue that will cause voters to blame **SOMETHING** just so that they can vent their frustrations. It's the one area that I feel that the R's can make gains on with their dumbed down messaging.

The masses that deny that the economy is expanding and getting better are also the ones denying that Biden won the election. Or that COVID is a deadly virus.

So there's no real point in convincing them.

No, actually there is a who lot of people that are willing to be swayed, but they are financially barely cutting it. And the last 12 months have been brutal for them. They still have Paycheck $ (X) but now their food/bills are $ (X+1).

For people on the lower end of the spectrum, they got their COVID raises in 2020/21 and their wages stopped going up in 22/23. Inflation/greed has put those people back into financial struggle. Sure, the top half of the income spectrum is doing fine, but the lower tiers are getting squeezed out of existence. 20% raises don't do much good when Rent/Food/bills are now up 30%.

Most people I know, even conservative ones, understand it. It isn't hard to explain you just have to find an analogy that applies.

Or just say "would you rather be unemployed and barely be able to afford cheaper items (if you live in a Blue State...good luck in a Red State) or would you rather have a job and have things be a bit pricey?". Anyone who would rather be unemployed isn't voting for sanity anyways.

Hell if Inflation was as bad as people are saying it is, no one would be buying anything except necessities. The economy wouldn't be growing then.

One thing that can clearly be pointed out now, the power of unions. Right now, they are starting to capture some of the massive gains that they deserve. And while the strikes have not been easy, they have won them more than not- the agreements they are signing are a lot closer to their demands than nothing- which is what the companies are claiming is required for the solvency of the company. Meaning the agreements are a good example that the corporations are rather fully of it, and they really are just raking in money.

Unionize, and also change your state that allows companies to not allow unions.

Wouldn't be buying all that MAGA swag, and putting money in Donnie's pocket.

Was it Jordan Klepper on the Daily Show, interviewing Donnie's cult members in NH? Guy complaining about how tough it was getting by these days, and then telling him he owned 48 red MAGA hats. Said he'd probably spent a few grand on MAGA cult shit.
