I've heard a story that Elmo was originally pitched a couple of other concepts for that dipsh*t truck which would've looked better and been more practical, but of course Elmo chose the ugly one knowing that the press and the Muskbois would splooge themselves at the weirdness and DeLorean-like sheathing of it.

Its friggin hideous...and even with it looking like something out of a bad 80s sci fi movie it is going to cost way more than the 40k he promised. But hey...its (sort of) bulletproof!

My favorite two cybertruck factoids:
1. The tolerance was submicron (or so Elon claimed) which was a lie
2. There are zero crumple zones. It would liquify everyone inside it if you got into a collision at full speed.

Oh and UAW reached a deal with Ford...25% raise!

IIRC, Ford was feeling the squeeze the most, since production of all of their most profitable vehicles was hammered by the strikes.

Saw yesterday that Fain ordered workers at a GM plant where they make all of their highly profitable full-size SUVs to walk off after GM's Q3 earnings report was better than expected. So it's only a matter of time before they crack.

I think DamnNearChrysler/FCA/Stellantis/Whatever They're Called This Year will be the last holdout, with their big foreign portfolio.

To bridge the gap with countries such as China, he drew parallels to Japan and Germany, which, post-World War II, encouraged their recoveries by fixing a culture of extended working hours and dedication.

That culture has worked so well for Japan, with their negative population growth and well into their fourth Lost Decade.

Gotta continue the exploitation of a developing nation with an extremely vulnerable lower class. Pitch them the idea of working 90 hour weeks to save their family from poverty.

Working with India resources is frustrating for many reasons, and I wish companies that took advantage of cheaper labor over there (mine included) would spend a few more rupees on non-technical/soft skills training for them. The culture of job hopping in India is even worse than it is in the States, and so many of the men feel societal pressure/entitlement to chase leadership roles they aren't ready for just because they've got a couple years of experience at whatever megafirm. These guys are always really easy to spot on LinkedIn, with their headlines that list out "ex-Infosys, ex-Deloitte, ex-TCS", etc. I know DGF has chimed in before with multiple stories about male Indian employees trying to boss senior female American colleagues & customers around. I've had to address that before as well, on behalf of senior technical resources being ignored by male offshore counterparts.

Their 90 day rule is something, too. I think it was meant to discourage rampant job hopping but it can make things interesting

So we picked up our new Ford Escape yesterday. While it's as close as a vehicle as the one we returned- the cost of the vehicle is up $6k. And there are some significant things that have been removed. Not high priced ones, but ones that are things we used a lot. The biggest change in the vehicle is a fully digital dash and a bigger center display unit. As I understand stuff, changing a digital dash that had moving parts with one that does not (there isn't any moving gages in the new dash) makes it actually cheaper. And the new infotainment system removes a handful of buttons and knobs- so even though it's bigger, I would call it a wash in cost.

Someone is making a lot of money on these higher priced cars. And this is exactly why I support the UAW in their strike.

In addition to that, Ford Credit has raised the interest rates on the leases. Which is no effort money making.

While I really respect Bill Ford, especially when he hired Allan Mullaly, his rhetoric on the strike is absurd. And seeing how the agreement looks- his "warnings" now look incredibly silly.

So for those of you who are working in manufacturing- why can't the cheap labor in Central America be utilized??? Shipping costs will be considerably lower, the situation may stabilize thanks to an influx of jobs, and that will deal with a large part of the immigration issues.

Let alone, we are not sending money to former communist enemies.
