Have we been living in different universes?

Yeah I am not sure which one you live in but here in the real world it is cold and snowy until almost May and then it hits 90 fast. The closest thing we had to spring was in friggin June.

Spring and Fall have been shrinking every year and Winter and Summer growing.

Historic norms where my car gets stuck in my driveway after Tax Day? D'ohkay. It wasn't that long ago that April was a rainy month not a cold and snowy month. (April Showers Bring May Flowers)

There used to be a pretty good rhythm to how things went, a pattern that was easy to predict. (within reason of course) That has gone out the window.

This is the same argument as "It snowed once so global warming is a hoax"

Elmo says Twitter cash flow is still negative because of a 50% drop in ad revenue and debt load. Gee who would have thunk it! I'm sure amplifying Andrew Tate will help that...

Maybe he's stealing from the company and covering it with the losses?

Correct. And I do not like it. Spring and Fall were my favorite seasons and they're so short I am not sure they exist anymore.

No the company is losing money because engagement is down, ad revenue is way down, only the crazies and crypto frauds are paying for blue checkmark and because he owes money all over town. He also overpaid for it significantly.

It is not unexpected that Twitter is losing money, it is unexpected that it is losing so much money. Twitter Blue was a disaster and his methods to try and goose engagement (amplifying racists, frauds, rapists and fascists) forced most of his content creators to flee to Threads at least part of the time. It also forced big money advertisers to walk away. It doesn't help that Tesla stock is just now really recovering from a massive dip and is still dealing with large recalls and bad press over its autopilot issues either. I think he figured if Twitter stayed big they would return...then he picked a fight with Zuckerburg and Zuck rushed out Threads and Elmo has no answer because unlike Mastadon and Bluesky, most people already have Insta so they just click a button and all the vitriol is gone. Threads broke the pattern for a lot of people. (myself included I only have Twitter still to open links I see elsewhere)

Elmo really screwed up and he did it from the word jump. He got trolled into buying Twitter by his fans, didn't due his due diligence and didnt let his lawyers do theirs, agreed to pay almost double what Twitter was worth, used Tesla stock as part of the deal, signed an agreement that would have cost him a billion to get out of the deal and said he was not allowed to try and tank the stock with public disparagement in order to get a better price, tried to back out and tank the stock got caught and was almost on the hook for the whole price as a penalty, ended up spending hundreds of thousands (if not millions) on a court case that forced him to buy the company anyways at the agreed upon price, laid off I think somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the staff (many around the Holidays) replacing them with Tesla people who had no clue how to run social media or code it, refused to pay out stock options and severance for much of the laid off workforce violating their contracts which he agreed to honor when he bought the company, screwed with the source code, changed the algo to promote vile people and right wing politics, started to retweet and comment on far right nut job conspiracists, decided that the one thing Twitter had that worked (verification) was now not going to be about making sure we all knew the people posting weren't lying about who they are but going to be about who is willing to pay...etc. Literally the entirety of his decisions related to Twitter from the day he joked he should buy it have been so wrong it kind of defies imagination.

Oh, I know it's cratering. But if the company is losing $50B maybe he's putting $5B directly into his own pocket.

I'm trying to find a rational choice for why he is doing this. People do not typically p-ss away billions of dollars just for teenage kicks.

To be fair, the same strategy won the GOP the White House in 2016, the House in 2022, and SCOTUS for the next 20 years.

I guess he thought it was worth trying.

There is no rational choice. You dont pay $44 billion to rip off $5 billion...even Trump isn't that stupid.

He did it because he is a child. A couple thousand Elon Tans said "I double Dog Dare Ya!1!!" because he spent so much time whining about free speech and how bad Twitter was with the bots. Elon is a vain, selfish person and he took the bait and did it. What he didn't realize was half the people telling him to do it were bots of some sort and that he had no idea what Twitter even really was. He thought he did it for the "lulz" and would never have to really deal with the consequences since people had nowhere else to go.

The other problem is he forgot (or never learned) the cardinal rule of content creation and sales...you make your product for what the audience wants not what you (and by extension your fanboys) want. Twitter was always a rather seedy place but at least if you knew where to avoid looking you could have a pleasant time getting important information. It was a one stop shop for entertainment information, gossip and local/world news. He decided the comments under the news was more important and made sure that was the most seen stuff. (the meaner or angrier the more you saw it) The result is now Twitter is all commenters with nothing real to comment on.
