NASCAR is not a great example since they’ve spent the last 10-15 years throwing a massive amount of s- at the wall trying to get something to stick as their attendance and TV ratings tanked. The playoffs, stage racing, the dirt race, the roval races etc. Now they’re talking about going back to the small tracks like North Wilkesboro, the same ones they abandoned 30 years ago to chase big money in Texas and Vegas.

They have stabilized their losses though. They have also been able to maintain a pretty steady TV presence (Fox for the first half of the season for 21 seasons and still going strong.)

I was just speaking in general terms of having the bubble burst and having to recover from that.

They had their bubble burst and it gas taken years to really fix it. They were on TV but weren't exactly liking it monetarily. That is why they are going backwards like Jim is saying. NHL and MLB will be forced to do the same at bigger levels because of the money they spend.

I think you guys are way overeating the NBA presence but we will see when LeBron and Steph retire. Ja us good and sll but that team flanges out and Memphis us not where the league needs him. They need him and a few others need to be in the top markets.

Maybe I’m way off on this but I think 25 years ago a lot more people could name AI, Garnett, etc than people today could name Morant, Doncic, etc.

Well, we both wore onions on our belts so whatever we think applies to the youts, well, might as well be trying to guess what dogs think about quantum mechanics.

Is hoops still beloved by racist rural white derps in Kansas, Kentucky, and Indiana, or is the fanbase under 40 black now?

When I was in middle and high school in Indiana, high school and college ball were VERY popular. NBA not so much. Even with the Pacers, Bulls, and Pistons all pretty close to where I grew up, not many people really followed them.

10 of the 12 largest high school basketball gyms in the country (in terms of seating capacity) are in Indiana. Including the top 5

Only high school/college basketball are important in Indiana/Kentucky. Big Blue Nation (UK) makes up 95% of Kentucky; Louisville gets maybe 5%. Indiana, high school hoops are almost as important as college hoops. There, it’s Indiana/Purdue, and to a much lesser extent, Notre Dame. Indiana’s high school basketball culture reminds me of Minnesota’s high school hockey culture.

Interesting. Sounds like Texas high school football.

My Google-fu is failing me this morning. Can anyone help find an article I read a few years back that detailed how new ownership groups in sports have generally a five year window to win a championship, otherwise they most likely will never win one? The topic came up in a chat with a friend, and I can't find the report (and Google has become less than useful the last few months pushing their AI into search results).

The Twitter API has been paywalled following Elmo's decision to charge for access. In the process, they've cutoff their own internal access to their own API, causing tons of external links to sites outside of Twitter to break. Also images are not working, lol. Stupid Elmo!

This is the error message you get when clicking on any external links in Twitter right now:

Wut?

Disney’s ESPN wants to be the hub for all live sports streaming — even for its competition.

The sports network has held conversations with major sports leagues and media partners about launching a feature on ESPN.com and its free ESPN app that will link users directly to where a live sporting event is streaming, according to people familiar with the matter.

Kinda makes sense, it makes ESPN+ your go to from which you launch what you want. Who's carrying the game? Who gives a sh**, log onto ESPN+ and go from there.

It's like using the old MSN Homepage, or Google, or Yahoo Home.

Explaining to Brayden and Kayden why Marquee won't stream without their parents Xfinity TV account info is going to be trickier.

I'm not sure how the DOJ will take this. Seems awfully close to setting up a monopoly. If not right away, at some point down the line.

Newsom is sick of Walgreens bullshit and says CA will no longer use walgreens.

my employer tries to force us to use Walgreens. Fuck that, Costco it is

You want to bend to the will of backwards states that think women aren’t people? Fuck off

Pritzker isn't happy with them either considering Walgreens is headquarted in Illinois. But, the difference between Pritzker and DeSantis is Pritzker isn't going to load up the Walgreen's board with his pals.
