I would have to think that basic needs are a significant chunk of the economy. The grocery segment alone had $766 Billion in sales in the USA in 2021. That's just a single branch on the Retail tree.
But is that $766B the final leg with stores selling to human beings for their personal consumption, or does it include interim steps of suppliers and distributers selling to each other?
The US economy is $25T. So $0.766T is not that much.
