For those still using Twitter, make a list of friends and trusted accounts whose content you actually want. Then follow the list. This has several benefits, but chief among them are
1) you won't see ads. I only read my private list and never see any advertisements or promoted tweets. That also means Elon doesn't make any ad revenue off you.
2) you won't see the garbage that fills most of Twitter. Whatever you perceive "garbage" to be. Politics, sports, whatever. Unless one of your friends retweets it you'll never see it.
3) you'll continue to see the tweets that matter to you even if the people you follow don't spend the $8/month. It's your list so you see everyone on it, regardless of verification status.

This could change, theoretically. But since Elon fired or chased away most of his staff, it is doubtful.

This is absolutely the way. Been doing this for a while.

the only downside is you don't see all replies. You see all tweets and quote tweets but you only see some subset of replies. I haven't quite figured out the filter. Maybe it's only replies to themselves or to others you follow.

Bob Chapek has been fired as the CEO of Disney. Big Papa Iger will take over (again) for two years until a replacement is found.

Put out something truly great and memorable like Andor and the board stepped in. THIS CANNOT STAND! WE MUST CONTINUE TO MAKE ONLY HOMOPHOBIC DRECK!

I get the sense it probably has to do more with the theme parks than anything. His policies have been really unpopular, especially among the hardcore fans.

It has to do with the stock price being half what it was a few months ago. It's also the fact Iger is a leader and Chapek is not. Iger wants Disney to still be DISNEY in 50 years. Chapek is concerned with next quarter's earnings report. At most companies that is commonplace these days. That's not Disney. The Mouse thinks long-term - and long-term there is decades, not months.

I read that the board was, erm...disenchanted with his Disney+ strategy of achieving subscriber volume at a lower price by churning out more generic content, rather than curating content for hardcore Disney addicts willing to pay more for what The Mouse does best.

I'm just looking forward to Disney investor calls becoming interesting again. They were a snooze fest under Chapek. Igercon is can't miss. At any moment he may "accidentally" break news with an announcement. Perhaps the next one will be him letting it slip that Star Wars X, XI & XII are on the way...

That seems correct, as there definitely has been a quantity versus quality push of content on Disney+.

For every Chip & Dale movie and Andor, there's been three spinoffs of Marvel shows, Star Wars prequel shows, and other dreck added for the sake of adding content.

I get there needs to be new and fresh material on a regular basis, but for God sakes let's get this shit together.

On a side note, can we start tying the Marvel TV series together even just a smidge? The winks, nods, and inclusion of old loose ends into the new shows are great, but how about we tie the shows together? Where have the flag smashes been since Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Why was West View only briefly mentioned in Dr Strange 2 and not even in She Hulk? The same thing pissed me off with the old Netflix Marvel shows who could barely wink at the movies. At least the new shows freely admit the movies happened.

That's the one. Right there. Disney is betting the farm on Marvel/SW being a cash cow forever, and I think they're dangerously close to having a precipitous drop in interest. I hear as many say "I'm tired of super heroes" as ever, not a majority but a strong plurality. That's not good when your AAA content has a substantial fraction made up by MCU. The numbers might not be there yet, but they will be and Disney better start planning for the post-Marvel future.

I think you're talking about me. I believe I said something along the lines of "just because your house goes up, doesn't mean it will follow with taxes. If your house goes up disproportionately, then you can challenge."

overall it obviously depends on budgets and levies. My taxes went down IIRC. Or roughly stayed the same.

Yeah it was you I think. I was hoping you were right.
So far, can’t find anyone outside of Edina where taxes are going up as much as mine. There are so many rich fucks around here, I’m just bummed Edina is hitting everyone. Myself and the older people around me haven’t done anything to our homes but everyone else is tearing down ar building 1.5-2m homes in their places and Edina wants more money from everyone.

If Chip and Dale is considered quality content then...ummm...well we have different ideas of what constitutes quality. A bad ripoff of Roger Rabbit is not only not quality, it is actually exactly what Di$ney is good at, taking other people's ideas and making second rate versions of them.

But hey, at least now they will be out in the open with their anti-diversity takes instead of pretending they are allies. (until something needs a China release) Hell they will probably hire Joss Whedon to direct something soon since he is the perfect avatar for everything Di$ney is.

And just because films make money doesn't mean people like them Priceless. Transformers films made money but the returns diminished. And should we discuss the Star Wars films that no one seemed to like by the end? They brought in BO too but that doesn't mean anything other than the hardcore audience is willing to waste money on hate watching films. I mean sure Wakanda Forever is making a lot of money but it is underperforming what is expected for the sequel of a billion dollar film. (that is also a tribute to the late actor) Sooner or later things start to show signs of slowing down.

Put it this way, Indy 4 made almost $800 million...is anyone going to say that people were pining for a sequel though after it? (and it sounds like Indy 5 is a friggin mess)

Yeah, I looked at mine again. My 2023 did go up, it was last year's that didn't go up.

Over 40% of the increase was due to new levies approved for schools. So I'm pretty happy with that. Every dollar you spend on the schools comes back at like 10-50x in property value increase. It's just the biggest no brainer.

I was going to go on a rant about the cost of public safety skyrocketing, but I remembered that we were going to convert our volunteer FD to full-time positions. So, yeah, that's a good thing.

I am happy with the natural resources budget increasing though. That went up 47%, but it's a tiny fraction of the total budget.
Culture and Recreation also went up 25%, which, again, fine. That's the good stuff.
Roads went up 10%, which, again, fine. Inflation on materials for roads spiked prices. 10% seemed reasonable.
General government, on the other hand, went up 12%. I'm less sure of what that includes, but probably utilities increases, etc.

So like, our taxes went up, but 40% was taxpayer-approved levies. A good chunk of the rest of that was inflation, conversion to a full-time FD, and general improvements. It's really hard to fault the city.

Shareholders don't care about movie critics or what fans say they want. They care about money. If the public don't want things like Spiderman 5 or Guardians 3 then don't buy tickets. As you say, people stopped buying tickets to Transformers movies and they stopped making them. People have been talking about superhero fatigue for the better part of a decade now and all the while Disney has made billions of dollars making superhero films. Maybe BP2 is underperforming but it had already made its budget back after about 10 days and every dime it makes now is pure profit.

Word is a group of executives went to the board (Iger) and expressed a lack of confidence in Chapek and demanded his ouster. Chapek and his people are supposedly stunned by these events. This is all unofficial and anonymous, of course, since no one is going to say it on the record.

Both of the kids (a Fr in biology and a So in engineering) have secured paid internships for next summer that include a paid stay at a Residence Inn with full kitchens in their room, food and transportation allowances and wages of $24 and $26 an hour respectively. I was languishing at Proex at that age.
