BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Wasn't that an SHG? Wasn't there a brutal cross ice pass by Maine at the BU blueline that led to that goal?

The Sylvia goal was not a SHG. The Lachance goal in the last couple minutes was (and helped by a nice hook by his linemate - forget who it was). Rausch almost added a 7th goal in the last few seconds (I too watched the highlights last night after wondering who was on the team).

I still love the back and forth between Thornton and Shermerhorn around the first goal. Shermerhorm got tossed from the faceoff after basically using his stick to push Thornton back. Then Thornton schooled his replacement on the draw, winning it past him and rifling the shot over Allison for the goal. So as they line up for the next faceoff at center ice, Thornton taunts Sheremerhorn by mimicking his stick pushing motion. Shermerhorn shows his appreciation by giving Thornton a nice slash as the puck is dropped.

I love YouTube. Just watched the '95 highlights and YouTube cued up the 2009 highlights the follow. So much joy.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

They're going to auction off the player-worn jerseys to raise money for Autism Speaks. Not sure why they can do that when we can't auction regular player worns of kinds still on the team. Maybe their names won't be on them?

Northeastern auctioned off the game worns from the Skating Strides game last year and they removed the names from the back of the jerseys. Something to go with NCAA rules about marketing players names or something?

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Need better bounces out there.

Tough outcomes last two but still playing. Need both hands to count all the open nets they not hitting, but again just a turn of bouncing pucks right now

If I had a nickel for every missed connection or whiff on an open net the past two games.... Still played pretty well tonight, carried most play, though ND did a nice job of clogging us up and taking up a lot of open space.

1994-95 Defensive Pairings

1994-95 Defensive Pairings

As I recall, the d-pairings were Brennan-Johnson, Linna-Coleman, Kelleher-Wood.
One of the things I added to my database was BU forward lines and defensive pairings. For the 94-95 season here are the starting defensive pairings for all 40 games:

1994-95 Defensive Pairings
Left Defense-Right Defense
Kaj Linna- Jon Coleman, 37 games, 1st pair 34 games, 2nd pair 3 games
Chris Kelleher-Doug Wood, 25 games, 3rd pair 15 games, 2nd pair 10 games
Shane Johnson- Rich Brennan, 24 games, 2nd pair 17 games, 1st pair 5 games, 3rd pair 2 games
Jeff Kealty- Doug Wood, 13 games, 3rd pair
Chris Kelleher-Rich Brennan, 6 games, 2nd pair
Jeff Kealty-Shane Johnson, 5 games, 3rd pair
Chris Kelleher-Jon Coleman, 2 games, 2nd pair
Jeff Kealty-Rich Brennan, 2 games, 3rd pair
Jeff Kealty-Chris Kelleher, 1 game, 3rd pair
Ken Rausch-Jon Coleman, 1 game, 1st pair
Jeff Kealty-Ken Raush, 1 game, 3rd pair
Shane Johnson-Jeff Kealty, 1 game, 2nd pair
Shane Johnson-Chris Kelleher , 1 game, 2nd pair

Without checking every game it appears that Coach Parker used only 5 defensemen for one game.

Career Defensive Pairing
Shane Johnson- Rich Brennan, 61 games (8th most games by a defensive pair since 1984)
Kaj Linna- Jon Coleman, 43 games

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

BU is up 4 pts. on BC with a game in hand so I believe that if BU gets at least a tie tonight, BU wins the RS title outright. Not bad for a team picked 6th preseason.

It looked like The Boy Wonder accidentally put a 9 iron in his bag when a 6 iron would have done the job. He air mailed at least four shots over the net. I hope his caddy gets that straightened out tonight.

I'm dying to see a replay of O'Regan's chance at a yawning net late in the 3rd.

What, no comments on the 95 team's aging wins and loses? :) :p

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

In the trivial category: I brought a friend to the game last night who had never been to HAA. So, we're looking at the players in the NHL wall and I noticed two things: 1) Lots of open ended dates for retired players (Chris Drury and Shawn Bates, just to list two.) 2) Dave Silk's plaque says Edmonton 1979-1980. Ahhh, what now? (I know he played for their AHL affiliate in 1979, but that's different.)

Carry on.

I hope so. Only 1 assist in each of the last two games. He is now tied at 14th for Terrier rookie scoring and tied at 5th for Terrier freshman scoring. He is still 17th for rookie PPG and 3rd for freshman PPG. Here's my updated list of top scoring freshman and rookies.

I thought Jacques Joubert looked like an old man with those glasses.
