Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

another 30 seconds and they were gonna tie that game, no question. I thought they were going to throw a TD pass in the third again at one point
Another 8 weeks and they are gonna win a national championship, but not last night. :)

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Yeah, I'm not too worried about this team. They have far exceeded anyone's expectations (what was the average standings in the predictions thread - 6th?) I really hope they bring home some hardware this year, but it is certainly possible that they won't (did you see what NU did to UConn over the weekend?). They have brought the winning tradition back and they play an entertaining brand of hockey. Their third period domination reminds me of the '89-'90 team, which I think I compared this team to earlier on in the season. They are loaded with freshmen and sophomores, especially on defense. They are going to have hiccups here and there. As has been pointed out multiple times, the 90-91 team that won a lot of hardware lost to PC 9-1 around Beanpot time. But last night wasn't a huge disappointment the way that game was. They have won a lot of games, but they are not leaps and bounds better than the rest of the league.

On a side note, it's good to see Hohmann picking things up on the scoresheet, so Rodrigues isn't the only Senior having a great year.

I think that was the '95-'95 Nat Champs who were thumped 8 - 1 @PC on the Friday night following the BP victory.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

I'm not entirely against the Muhammad Ali approach of taking punches in the first and second until they wear out then pummel them in the third, but in order for that to be effective you can't give up two, three, and four-goal leads. It's also a tightrope walk come tournament time. I would hope the focus right now in practice is on shoring up defensive breakdowns and neutral zone play. The young D clearly had issues with the big ice last night and gave UNH attackers way too much space to work and attack. I've noticed we've also had difficulty with opponents controlling play from behind our net. Also have to cut down on some of these really, really untimely penalties. PIM numbers are certainly down over recent years, but some of the ones we're taking are coming at awful times.

The offensive side will work itself out, it was clear last night in the first two periods things just weren't connecting, and/or the puck was finding Tirone's pads, it was one of those nights where we were snakebitten - and still managed to put in three goals.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Just an FYI... Ali called it rope-a-dope.

Yeah, I know. Let the guy punch himself out in the opening rounds then pummel him later on. It's kind of what BU has been doing during the season, and when we enter the third tied or down a goal, it's not the worst strategy in the world with our offensive prowess, but it obviously opens the door to what happened last night where we dig a hole too big to climb out.

It was the Friday before President's Day. In Providence. Score was 8-1, Kaj Linna scored the only goal and was the only one that gave an effort that night. On the way home, my friends and I stopped at the Olive Garden in North Attleboro and I said to them "I think I'm going to go car shopping Monday." I did and bought a BU red Honda Passport and the team never lost again the rest of the season.

Now, ask me what I had for dinner last Thursday and I couldn't tell you, but I remember that.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Speaking of BU Red (Scarlet), can someone explain why the flag often waved at games looks much closer to Crimson than BU's color? I know it has been around a while and the topic has come up before, but I don't recall a reason.

Because that's the one BU bought, unfortunately. Beats waving a white flag.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

if anyone needs tickets to the Friday night game I have a few I purchased at the group rate for sale. 4 available, $18 each, cheaper than the box office. Shoot me a message here if interested.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

There will be no B Line service at all this weekend, so if you're coming to the game either walk from Kenmore, walk from the C Line, or drive.

According to the T the Route 57 buses will run its regular route, which makes stops between Packards Corner and Kenmore Station.

It will, but it's been a disaster all week, it's an option, but I'd walk from the C before fighting the bus crowds.
