Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Who do we want Friday?

Lowell? Schooled them this season, but hard to beat a good team three times.
ND: Trap and goalie schooled us, revenge?
UNH: Young, inconsistent defense, but they score, they're hot and their goalie is feelin' it.

I want the 5pm game. I hope #16 can play.

I don't want ND. Not concerned with the other two teams.

Personally, I think the team to avoid for just about everyone, even though they struggle in this league, is ND. Lots of draft picks that could have a good night at any time and Cal Peterson is massive and can be impossible to beat on some nights.

Igles haven't won since when?!?

Sound like patsies "dynasty" (before that horrible Pete Carroll brain fart :( )
I don't see any western fans chitting their pants over the prospect of drawing BU.
Or any Hockey East fans saying F BU.

You have to earn that disrespect! :D

you can't tell them that or anything complementary because you are blowing smoke up their butts or putting the kiss of death on them:rolleyes:

Of course he can say that. You know why? Because he didn't and hasn't done the "Oh no!! Even though we were the hottest team in the country in Jan/Feb and we've been the best team in the country for the last x-amount of years and we're currently ranked in the top 10 in the polls and in the PWR and we were thisclose to actually winning the regular season title....we are just a horrible team because we most assuredly are not going to win a national title or be thisclose to doing so as we are so used to doing every single year and I'm so bummed and upset about it and you guys just don't understand how awful that is for us" constant rant that comes from you (pl). :)

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Okay Sean, can your database handle this one?

Rodrigues has 40 more points than he did last year (54 vs. 14). What is the largest single season point improvement for a Terrier? I know Chris Drury had a big jump from his freshman season to sophomore (don't recall his freshman point total, but I guess sophomore season was 67 points). And McEachern went from I think 56 or 52 to 82 from Sophomore to Junior.
Maybe, but I have no idea how I would write that query so I copied the data into Excel and used it to do to the math. Much quicker and it also lets me upload the spreadsheet to Dropbox showing every players point changes between seasons. I have 2 sheets, one by player and one by point change. Be warned it is a larger file (>10 MB) than the others I've uploaded.

Rodrigues is currently tied for the 6th largest increase in points from season-to-season. David Sacco is first with a 57 point increase, but that is only because he had just 4 points in 3 games his first sophomore season before a season-ending injury and medical redshirt. If you ignore that season his difference from freshman to second sophomore season is only 18 points. Jay Pandolfo is second with a 47 point increase from his junior to senior season, but he only had 20 points in 21 games before a season ending injury. Peter Marzo is third on the list with a 45 point increase from his freshman to sophomore season, but he only played 2 games as a freshman. Rick Meagher is fourth with a 43 point increase from his junior to senior season and is the first player to play most of the previous season. Chris Drury is fifth with a 41 point increase from his freshman to sophomore season. Benjamin Forbes is for sixth tied with Evan with a 40 point increase from his sophomore to junior season, but he only played 3 games as a sophomore.

I'm now quoting myself, that can't be good. ;)

I've been looking at the point changes for returning players for different seasons and it's revealed some interesting information. After winning the NCAA championship in 1978 it looked like it would be another banner season for BU in 1978-79 with 20 returning players. But players expected to put up points failed, with 5 having 21+ decreases in points and only 3 players with increases between 11-19 points. On the flip side the 2008-09 team had 9 players with 12+ point increases (5 with 20+ increases) and only 2 players with point decreases at all. The 1990-91 team also had 9 players with 10+ point increases, but had 5 with point decreases (including Alexandre Legault, who left the team during the season. I just looked up his stats and it looks like that didn't work out for him). The 1970-71 team likewise had 8 players with 10+ point increases and only one player with a 5 point decrease. And the 1972-73 team had 4 players with 14+ increases (3 with 21+ increases), no player with a point decrease and 11 rookies with 10+ points (6 with 20+ and 3 with 30+).

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Mammoth crowd on hand at Conte. What a great idea to add an extra round of playoffs...

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

They've had quarterfinal rounds since I've started following college hockey a million years ago. QF weekend always falls at the start or the end of Spring Break, no matter what school participates. Reading other threads - same story. Everyone is *****ing and complaining about it. Schools have Spring Break. Maybe even before they had hockey teams. They're not going to change that. What difference does it make to any of us if the crowds are low? The fans that don't go are the ones that miss out.

Yes, but I'm talking about the economic situation here. There's only so much one can spend...

It's not too terrible. 8/12 teams get a home series. No teams get two. So unless you're traveling, you don't spend on more games than usual.

If the issue is the stupid pay-for-streaming package, I'd agree with you.
