BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

I guess my posting Ken Schott's blog comments are at least partially responsible for igniting the conflagration on this thread. :o. I thought Union - RPI discussions were heated, but it looks like we have a long way to go to match these guys! ;)

I personally thank you for posting it. As I've said, it's refreshing to see a media member take him to task.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

BU players did embarrass themselves that year in Worcester. I remember Jerry walking to the end if his bench and leaning over to ask Jack what was going on and to stop. I believe Brennan also skated in front to ask the same (I am of course assuming the words spoken, I wasn't on the bench to hear).

Not our finest hour.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

First point here ... really, he practices his craft well but not great????. I will take it you miss posted on that one. Your second point, he does not cover RPI, he covers Union.
I'll re-post, in case you misheard me... Schott is a great writer. Both technically, and in conveying his message, he does an excellent job. On Saturday, he had a choice of covering the Army-Union game or the BU-RPI game. He chose the BU-RPI game. Since he is an ECAC writer, and more specifically, a Capital District writer, he was covering the RPI Engineers in their game against the BU Terriers. He thought that the opposing coach went past his reasonable limits, therefore slighting the Engineers. Hence, the team he was covering got slighted. There was no error in my post.

And, I know we've had our disagreements on me "censuring" people. I like to follow BU hockey (they're my 3rd-favorite team behind RPI and RIT), but I can't stand subscribing to their threads because it always devolves into a flame-fest with BC fans. Luckily, RPI threads have been mostly void of that outright trolling (disregarding one individual posting on the Recruit threads), and this thread was an excellent example of some give-and-take between the fans of the respective schools with excellent discussion of the game that was to be played or the food available in the area. But, as soon as BC got a sniff of Parker doing something wrong, they pounced. And, it's run itself into the ground. And, it's frustrating to read. I just wish for the good old days where the talk in this thread was actually about the hockey being played.

Sorry for interrupting the meaningless drivel that's occupied this thread...

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Once again it is nice to see that so many BC fans care so much about BU Hockey! Thanks for following our program better than we do! :D

Sorry, but I don't see any correlation between Parker going wild and then a writer taking that as a slight to RPI. That just doesn't make any sense. Since you want to keep using the word slight, please tell me how exactly RPI was slighted due to Parker's antics? Seemed pretty simple to me the writer just gave his opinion on what happened.

I really don't keep up with all the BU threads, but IMO you're wrong about all of them turning into what this thread has become. The difference here is the game was on the NHL Network for everyone to see and a poster provided an article about Parker that you would NEVER see in any Boston based paper. It was refreshing and certainly newsworthy.

you are obviously not familiar with the fanboy justice league! they are a secret society of social misfits deemed unworthy for public consumption that are whisked away from agganis to an underground bunker where they toil away at discrediting those with negative opinions of jack parker.

i would expect schott to be high up on their list after coining the term 'comm ave crybabies'

Need some tissues? I always get a laugh when someone cries about a thread getting ruined. Reminds me of the twits that whined when someone ruined the TRP thread which is about nothing but why the people that post there can't get laid.

Anyway... The game has been over for a while now. There's not much left to discuss about the actual game unless we all DVRed the game and rewatch it and give up our Barry Melrose analysis. 10 days before Xmas... no thanks, I'll watch the Bruins tonight instead. No new articles are coming out about the game, either. It's pretty much done. Best case scenario this thread should be dead. Worst case scenario is it isn't dead and some discussion about Parker being a buffoon turns up and if you don't like it you go back to your best case scenario in which you pretend the thread is dead. I know most teams are off for weeks now so there will be withdrawal issues, but seriously, I'm sure you can find something to talk about in your RPI thread concerning your team, line combos, future schedule, whether you'll make the NCAAs, meathead recruits and their crazy parents (maybe even kiss their parent's butts when they post), etc.

This discussion about Parker was going to take place somewhere after the incident this weekend - the fanboy denial was simply fuel for the fire and as you can see after SteveF's post, it's a bitter pill to swallow for them. Unless you want to start a separate thread about Parker so we can discuss these things there (BUSCHO would NEVER let that happen), this seemed like the most logical place to have that discussion. His boorish behavior DID take place during this game, did it not?

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

FWIW i must admit that i try to read ALL the BU threads and posts:eek: because, well, ya know;) one eye looks straight ahead and the other kinda looks down Comm ave to see what is happening down at that end of the street

I don't think RPI got slighted. But, Schott doesn't take anything to heart unless he feels that someone on the opposing team overstepped some boundary and broke the rules that the home team so carefully played by. Appert overstepped it in November, and Schott railed into him; during the post-game presser, his post-game blog, and his weekly update. Parker overstepped the boundary this weekend and Schott railed into him in his post-game blog and his weekly update (without even bothering to get a quote).
B12, that s not a choice.
Sure it is. His hometown team (as we've been reminding each other) is the Union Dutchmen. I was surprised when I read his blog Sunday afternoon and discovered that the Gazette had allowed him to cover the RPI game.

OK now I'm really confused. Seems to me like Schott evenly criticized both the home town team (Appert) in the game against Union as well as the opposition (Parker) in the game against RPI. Where's the issue? If anything, that shows me he's on top of things.

Seth didn't overstep anything. He showed a clip of a play that was clearly blown by the official and cost him the game and to equate his behavior with that of Capt. Jack is absurd and to be honest demeaning.

To your other point, let's see which game do I cover tonight. Two nationally ranked teams (one with a venerable and storied Coach :D) or watch Union punk a weak team. Maybe to you that is a choice but not to any rationale person.

Appert was not the home town team in the game against Union. Schott's primary responsibility is to cover all things Dutchmen. On November 13, Appert was the visiting coach; the enemy, per se.

Re-read it. "the Gazette had allowed him to cover the RPI game." No doubt that Schott wanted to cover the RPI game. I thought the Gazette would make him cover the Union game since it is his primary beat.
