BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Ha, so you want me to believe that when Union plays RPI, this writer will go out of his way to say something negative about RPI, but when RPI plays anyone else, all of a sudden RPI becomes his team and he'll only go after the opponent? Sorry, I don't buy that.

I'm not saying that he'll go out of the way for it. But, I am definitely saying that it takes a lot more for him to say something bad about the team that he's covering than their opponent for the night.

Example: He hasn't had anything bad to say about AIC, Yale, or Brown (the three most recent games that he's covered for Union). He doesn't go out of his way to find bad things to write about. You're putting words in my mouth.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Appert was not the home town team in the game against Union. Schott's primary responsibility is to cover all things Dutchmen. On November 13, Appert was the visiting coach; the enemy, per se.

Re-read it. "the Gazette had allowed him to cover the RPI game." No doubt that Schott wanted to cover the RPI game. I thought the Gazette would make him cover the Union game since it is his primary beat.

How do you know what goes on in the Gazette news room? Unless you are ken Schott or the editor, youcan't know what went into the decision.
Schott covers Union hockey and sometimes covers RPI. He is an adequate writer and reporter and yes, a Union homer. He is not a great writer and he does not cover ECAC Hockey.

You're right. I don't know what went into the decision. But, I'd like you to name another RPI game that Schott covered when Union was playing in the contiguous 48 states (and even for the Union-UA_ / UAA games, he was providing some updates). And, I say that he covers ECAC hockey because he writes an "ECAC Week in Review."

Fair enough. I don't know his trends, it's just hard for me to understand a "Union homer" coming to the defense of their biggest rival so quickly. Now, when you point out he didn't have anything bad to say about certain opponents, doesn't that lead you to believe he had a good reason to write what he did about the BU-RPI game? Those types of antics from a coach/team are not seen every day, well, unless you've followed Parker's career. ;)

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

I'll re-post, in case you misheard me... Schott is a great writer. Both technically, and in conveying his message, he does an excellent job. On Saturday, he had a choice of covering the Army-Union game or the BU-RPI game. He chose the BU-RPI game. Since he is an ECAC writer, and more specifically, a Capital District writer, he was covering the RPI Engineers in their game against the BU Terriers. He thought that the opposing coach went past his reasonable limits, therefore slighting the Engineers. Hence, the team he was covering got slighted. There was no error in my post.

And, I know we've had our disagreements on me "censuring" people. I like to follow BU hockey (they're my 3rd-favorite team behind RPI and RIT), but I can't stand subscribing to their threads because it always devolves into a flame-fest with BC fans. Luckily, RPI threads have been mostly void of that outright trolling (disregarding one individual posting on the Recruit threads), and this thread was an excellent example of some give-and-take between the fans of the respective schools with excellent discussion of the game that was to be played or the food available in the area. But, as soon as BC got a sniff of Parker doing something wrong, they pounced. And, it's run itself into the ground. And, it's frustrating to read. I just wish for the good old days where the talk in this thread was actually about the hockey being played.

Sorry for interrupting the meaningless drivel that's occupied this thread...
Lighten up Buddy I just don't think your cut out for the Blogisphere, your way to touchy in your attempts to be above the fray...I suggest you join the fray and tell us what you really think its a lot more fun that way...As far as Ken Schott blowing off the Union game to attend the RPI game....He was embarrsed into it in no small measure due to the diserved criticism he recieved on this forum for his stunt after the disallowed goal @ Union...yes he does patrol this board and has commented publicly about the critcism he has recieved here.No one here should mistake him for a shill for RPI...just the oppisite,he is employed by the local newspaper in the city that Union College is located in and in essence is there beat reporter. His attendence @ the BU/RPI game and the blog where he blasted Jack Parker was nothing more than his attempt at a makeup call plain and simple.JMO

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

I don't think RPI got slighted. But, Schott doesn't take anything to heart unless he feels that someone on the opposing team overstepped some boundary and broke the rules that the home team so carefully played by. Appert overstepped it in November, and Schott railed into him; during the post-game presser, his post-game blog, and his weekly update. Parker overstepped the boundary this weekend and Schott railed into him in his post-game blog and his weekly update (without even bothering to get a quote).

Sure it is. His hometown team (as we've been reminding each other) is the Union Dutchmen. I was surprised when I read his blog Sunday afternoon and discovered that the Gazette had allowed him to cover the RPI game.
Thats more like it ! Thats the Spirit ! BTW are you actually Ken Schott using an Alias ?...One last thing define "railed" for me

Take it from Me...."BUY IT"

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Nothing cute about it, Mookie. I do post about games I've seen involving BU though...

you went to the BU-NU game? :p

what game was talked about in the "BU Recruiting thread 2" that you saw?
or the two (so far) season threads?!?! :D

:D

Just curious, do you agree or disagree with what he wrote about Parker in regard to that game?

[D]oesn't that lead you to believe he had a good reason to write what he did about the BU-RPI game?
See...
Was Parker over the line? Probably. Were the refs terrible? Probably. Is this all being blown way out of context by the BU/BC hatred? Absolutely.

I suggest you join the fray and tell us what you really think its a lot more fun that way.
I wasn't at the game. I was in Philly watching the Mids hand the Cadets their azz. The only thing that I have to go off of are my DVR and the post-game articles written by Weaver and Schott. That's why I've tried to stay more on the Schott issue and less on the specific Parker incident.

Where is Ralph? We need him to put some type of meaningless algorithm in place that'll generate seven hundred posts and kill this thread. It's become a Zombie.

Only in the fact that he only had one side of the story...HIS...There was nothing in the post game interview w/the RPI coach that would indicate that JP's actions were a High crime or misdomeanor,in fact if I recall he tried to goad Appert into commenting on it and He wouldn't bite....Infact his comment was to the affect that it was just a good old fasioned tough nasty hockey game between 2 good teams and there were high emotions on both sides and thats the way it should be.I'am a RPI homer for sure but my opinion is that the score didn't indicate how close a game it was there were many factors that determined the outcome of this game but the difference was goaltending, and that can be frustrating.......What was the alternative just laying down and giving up ! at least we know Jack and his team give a Sh.t and thats a good thing !Sooooo to answer you question is I belive it was over the top and sensationalism.....But thats JMO....btw I wish every game was like this one !!!!!!!

Disagree. It was over the top for Ken to call Jack "classless". Again, love him or hate him Jack Parker is a legend and has produced great American hockey players. His core group of guys won the Gold for us in 80. You could say it was Jim Craig and his hot goaltending that won it but he was Jack's guy. That doesn't give him a pass forever but he deserves Ken's and all our respect. IMO he's earned it. I'm sure Kenny wishes he had that one back. And as far as the game is concerned, SA didn't have much problem with the way it played out. See first few minutes of the presser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K23UY2181A4

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

shoulda told me... i was out of town and had my tickets go to waste.

Ha, well a good friend of mine (BU grad and season ticket holder) was in Philly, so I got the tickets...pretty good game ;)

To be fair, I really don't think any coach would directly answer a question about another coach's actions...

I don't think anybody here is challenging Parker's coaching acumen. And to be honest, I think Parker does have Ken's respect--as a great hockey coach. I certainly have a great respect for him when it comes to coaching the game.
