BU Recruiting Update--Part 5

Don't know if it was a "surprise" per se, but I doubt Jay and staff pushed him out. He has a solid rating and projects as a mid round pick. Probably more than anything just wanted to play for his dad. It was always kind of bizarre that he committed here in the first place instead of Northeastern.

Keefe didn't sign an NLI back in mid-November when the rest of BU's '06 recruits (Eiserman, Hutson, Bednarik) did, so this switch didn't come as a surprise. My guess is that Jay and Joe have a plan B, which likely would include signing a veteran defenseman in the transfer portal as BC did with Bengston and PC did with Krys.

Mom wins again?

Appears BU has a commitment for 2024-25 from Swedish right-shot center Alexander Zetterberg, currently with ?rebro HK J20.

Mark Divver tweeted:
Hearing Boston University received commit from '06 Alex Zetterberg of ?rebro HK J20 Expected to enroll in the fall 5-foot-8 center is 19th ranked European skater for 2024 draft by NHL Central Scouting.
Zetterberg played for Team Sweden in last month's Five Nations tournament in Michigan (2-5-7 in four games) and had a goal in the championship game that Sweden won, defeating the NTDP U18s. He's the second Swedish-born commit for BU in recent months joining Youngstown D Sascha Boumedienne who committed for 2025 this past December.

Long feature story on Cole Eiserman in The Athletic (subscription)
https://theathletic.com/5353960/202...source=emp_shared_article&access_token=444991

When NHL scouts have called him and used words like “selfish” or “me, me, me” to describe or ask about Eiserman, he has told them that while he can definitely see why some of them view Eiserman that way, they’ve got him wrong.

“When you are with Cole on a daily basis, when you learn what makes him tick. When you learn how his brain works, when you’re just around him and you see him interact with his teammates, it’s not about Cole Eiserman,” he’ll tell them. “That’s not who he is and it’s not selfishness. It’s him using his assets to the best of his ability and for the betterment of the team. He wants his teammates to have success, he wants to make plays to them.”

In fact, Fohr saidthat he feels Eiserman tries to make too many plays for his linemates. There have even been times, in games and in practices, where has had grabbed him and said, “Cole, you’re in the prime scoring area, you need to shoot these pucks.”

“I don’t want it to look selfish to everybody else,” Eiserman has responded.

“I don’t care, you can score from here! Score. You need to shoot the puck more, not less,” Fohr has told him plainly.

CHN's Mike McMahon posted: "BU is in the mix to land Merrimack C Matt Copponi out of the transfer portal, I'm told. A few other Hockey East schools in the mix as well."

Copponi led the Warriors in scoring with 29 points. 2-year total 21-40-61.

Jack Pridham, named BCHL Rookie of the Year finalist, had a hat trick in West Kelowna's first playoff game. 44 of his 49 points were at even-strength.

NHL.com Final Draft Rankings:

Mikhail Yegorov of Omaha (USHL) is No. 1 on Central Scouting's final ranking of North American goalies. The 18-year-old (6-4, 179), who was No. 4 in the midterm ranking in January, was 8-25-3 with a 3.86 goals-against average, .892 save percentage and one shutout in 43 regular-season games. He faced the fourth-most shots in the USHL this season (1,262) and the Lancers averaged a league-low 2.58 goals-per game.

"He has a huge pro presence and has shown steady development throughout the season," Al Jensen of Central Scouting said. "He moves well throughout the crease and has very good structure in his game. He's very tough to beat down low and in tight situations and has a chance and the ability to become a very good pro with more development. He's a high-end goalie prospect."

First day of World U18s: Cole Eiserman-hat trick. He has 52 this season. Cole Hutson-unassisted goal. Kamil Bednarik-3 assists. In Canada-Sweden game, Alexander Zetterberg-2G, 1A, Sweden's player of the game.
More.

With 3 assists in yesterday's US win over Finland, Cole Hutson became the NTDP's all-time points leader for defensemen with 114 points. He surpassed JD Forrest's 111 who played 3 NTDP seasons and 100 more games than Cole. Eiserman remains 2 behind Cole Caufield for the all-time goals record.

Three 2025 BU recruits were named to USHL All-Rookie teams. Defenseman Sascha Boumedienne was a first-team selection, while forward John McNelis and goalie Mikhail Yegorov were second-team selections. Yegorov is the top-ranked N. American (based) goalie for the 2024 NHL draft.

2008s can commit on August 1. According to Mark Divver:
Rumor in the rinks is Boston University is in the driver's seat on D Luke Schairer (Mount St. Charles/NTDP) and F Tynan Lawrence (Shattuck/Muskegon) Two of the top '08s eligible to commit as of 8/1

Puck Preps previously reported that Lawrence, who is from Fredricton, NB, visited BU, BC and UND. He's Puck Preps #12 N. American 2008 skater.

Would be the third Lawrence in the past 16 years or so (Jason, Dillon). I wonder what BU Hockey last name has had the most non-related use.
