BU Recruiting Update, Part 4

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 4

As a parent you have to be an absolute whacko to allow your kid to verbally commit at 13 years old. And that is all there is to it.

As a program, you have to be absolute whacko to take a verbal commitment from a 13 year old. Like anyone can confidently predict what a 13 year old will be as an 18 or 19 year old. Sheer lunacy.

Say what you want about the parents - but it looks like they were 100% right about Wahlstrom the player. He's a stud talent.

U of Florida softball has a verbal commitment from a sixth-grader (11 years old)...

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 4

He would be better coming to Maine and governed under nhl groomer and second coach has played 500 plus games in nhl as power forward. Period.

Which is wrong on so many levels that my mind can barely fathom it.

You're absolutely right. I, and nearly everyone in the sport, would agree with you. In UFs defense - their coach honors his commitments. Unlike many other major programs who back out on kids at the last minute all the time - Walton will take this chance and will honor it no matter who this kid turns out to be as a player. I respect him for that.

There are no advisors in softball. No major junior. Yet, there are so many unscrupulous coaches. He's not one of them, at least. But yes, it's still way too soon and unnecessary..

Early recruiting has reached a head in softball (he may have been trying to beat legislation). Hopefully that passes and can set a blue print for other sports, including hockey...

I am sure there are many reasons why it wouldn't work, but I would love to see some sort of age limit or school grade limit for committing - preferably no commitments until the start of Junior season.

Agree 100%

Vidoli earned very good reviews in December when Culver played in the Groton/Lawrence Tournament, losing to Cushing in the final.

New BU commit, ‘99 LD Dominic Vidoli (Culver Prep), brings more of a defensive style to the Terriers. Skates well, grinds and retrieves pucks. Stood out at Road to College Showcase last summer. His development is trending in right direction.

99 D Dominic Vidoli (BU) is a strong bodied blue liner who owns his defensive zone. Takes smart routes out of the zone and closes down shot space. The @CulverHockey product put in a strong showing at Road to College this summer.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 4

The St. Sebastians pipeline is in full swing again, as Liam Gorman (00) has committed to BU. Joins Drew Commesso and Liam Connors as Arrows that are future Terriers. By birth year he is one year older than Connors and 2 years older than Commesso, so I assume he is coming in 2019?

Other former Arrows:
Mike Grier
Carl Corazzini
Mike Pandolfo
Danny O'Regan
Dalton McAfee

I'm sure I am missing several..

Heisenberg has him listed as a 2019 recruit. Currently that class has just two forwards, Robert Mastrosimone (USHL Chicago) and Trevor Zegras (NTDP U17s). He's a big left-shot center whom SB Nation had ranked as the top uncommitted 2000 in Massachusetts:
1. Liam Gorman, #12 Red, Shoots Left, 6-3/192 - He’s grown and his game has really taken off. He is an explosive skater and looks like a freight train coming down the sheet. He has a heavy shot, is willing to go to the dirty areas and plays a heavy game. He doesn’t score as much as some might like, but that will come. He’s slated to be back at St. Sebastian’s. He’s on Chicago’s USHL affiliate list.
Grier has been his assistant coach at St. Sebs. A few other Arrows who went on to BU: Sean Sullivan, Kenny Roche, Kevin Mutch and Rick DiPietro. More on the blog.

I remembered another - Tommy Kelley.

Well, he didn’t go to Arlington High, but I’ll take any representation I can get! And yeah, I think Havern was the last one.

I guess it would depend on what your definition of star is. If were just referring to anyone who played at Arlington High and then was a regular in the NCAAs, Pat Gannon came to BC two years after Ned Havern.
